Items to Have In Your Car at All Times Let’s face it, owning a car isn’t all fun and games. While it’s great to have that feeling of independence that comes along with owning a car, sometimes things go wrong. Every time that a car owner drives anywhere, whether it be across the country or down the street to get some milk and bread, there is a chance that the car could break down or that they could get into an accident. Therefore, it’s important for car owners to always be as prepared as possible for the worst. There are five essential items that should be in a car at all times: Cell Phone This might seem like a no-brainer. In today’s super connected world everybody has their cell phone on them at all times, right? Actually, it’s one of those items that can easily be forgotten if someone is just driving around town to do some errands or pick up the kids from baseball practice. Also, not everyone owns a cell phone. There are still some hold outs that prefer to only have a land line. For those people, it’s a good idea to get a cell phone, even if it’s just for emergency use. Some cell phone providers offer phones that have a pay as you go system. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Nobody wants to have to walk ten miles in the dark to the nearest gas station to make a call after a break down. First Aid Kit Fender benders happen all of the time. While they might not result in any serious damage, either to the passengers or the car, it’s still very likely that a passenger could get a few bumps and bruises or cuts. It’s possible to buy prepared first aid kits, but car owners can easily put one together themselves. Essential items to include are adhesive bandages, sterile pads, and ice packs. Roadside Assistance Information Many car companies offer roadside assistance to people that have purchased their vehicles. AAA memberships also offer roadside assistance. It’s a good idea to have this information handy to quickly call for help. The quicker that the call is placed, the quicker that help will arrive. Flashlight Break downs and accidents can happen at any time. If you end up stranded in a poorly lit area at night it’s essential to have a flashlight. Make sure to also have back up batteries for the flashlight just in case. Reflectors and Flares These are necessary items to have. If a breakdown or accident occurs at night these tools alert other drivers to proceed with caution. Some areas are very dark and if other drivers can’t see the broken down car it’s likely that they could hit it.
