As an aspiring architect, my desire is to be able to design a space to work efficiently while incorporating new technology and innovative solutions that in turn could significantly benefit the users and inhabitants of the building. Although each project and design presents very different challenges, the areas of importance often remain constant. The primary concerns of each project revolve around designing with the surrounding context, finding the best possible accommodations for the user and inhabitants, and pushing my creative boundaries one step further each time. Through my studies at Clemson University and North Carolina State University, I have enjoyed challenging the accepted concepts of design through the blending and merging of contrasting and opposing ideas. This combination results in the creation of many opportunities that benefit the design as a whole. I believe the possibilities of Architecture are endless, whether designing a comfortable place to live, a personally inviting and visually exciting space, or a building that benefits both the individual and the environment. Architecture consists of never ending and always demanding manipulations of careful, well thought out decisions, learned knowledge from experience, and innovative creativity. I greatly look forward to being apart of and contributing to such a unique field.

Housing the creation and display of the visual arts, this craft center seeks to be a display of craft and design. The choice of materials, the angled shape, and the way the building transitions from dwelling within the earth to hovering above is done in such a way to not disturb the natural existance of the site, but rather creates many opportunities to admire and enjoy the surroundings from both the interior and exterior. The strategic placement of the feature walls and the building’s orientation allow daylight to penetrate the interior spaces, capitalizing on the expansive views of the site to encourage and inspire the artists and all visiting public.

The angled shape of the craft center creates many opportunities to gather together. The interior houses a large lobby, open gallery, and collarborative studios. Each of these spaces then has direct access to the exterior spaces provided to encourage filtration and transition throughout the entire design.

Tasked with a site in historical downtown Genoa, the dormitory needed to not only benefit the students, but also the public. With complete collaboration, This challenge resulted in the creation of multiple common gathering spaces among the secured residency units. The design embraces the contradictions between privacy versus community, addition versus subtraction, and urban versus organic. Embracing such inherent juxtapositions results in the interesting and appealing benefits of a modern dormitory in an historical city. 11

With the many struggles of the Haitian society, the design focuses on providing an enjoyable and secure environment for the young girls. Immersed in all of the chaos and dangers of the surrounding urban city, the solution evolved into a natural oasis. Due to the harsh climate, there are specific structural requirements. These are then combined with the aesthetic beauty created through the embrace of the culture, as well as the necessary precautions taken to provide safety.

The primary focus in designing an Indoor Football Practice Facility for Clemson University was the long span structure necessary to cover the entire length and width of the field. The chosen structural system doubles as a natural ventilation system. The contrast in geometries with the curved and the straight lines creates an aesthetically appealing and stimulating design. Due to the necessities of the programming, there is a separation of public and private, both in the exterior entrances and the interior spaces. The facility as a whole creates excitement for both the players and the entire Clemson community.


The structural system consists of a double box truss , one curved above one straight, which are both supported by vshaped columns steel columns covered in plinth concrete.

A primary public entry was created to draw the community and fans into an exciting space reflective of Clemson Football. More private entrances are used by the team to allow for the separation between the two.

The enthusiasm of the facility is enhanced through the choice of materials, primarily the traxxon screen used for advertisement and excitement, both for the players and Clemson community. With a desire to create a light and open interior space, there is a large amount of glass used around the entire building, potentially creating undesirable glares and internal heat gain. By using SPD Smartglass, which can be turned on to block a significant amount of light from passing through the glass, eliminates glare an reduces the demands of HVAC.

The run down ASTRO III in Downtown Clemson, SC is a prime site for an adaptive reuse project, turning the old movie theatre, into a desired indoor and outdoor performance venue. The design evolved through the concept of reflection. Because of the similar programming requirements for an indoor and outdoor venue, the inside spaces were reflected to the outside. Similarly, the natural outdoor characteristics were reflected inside and through to the urban facade.

The urban facade embraces the natural surroundings of the neighboring park, through the shape and the materials used.

The outdoor space resembles the urban facade through the shape and use of materials, yet in a more open and grander scale with the ability to accommodate larger performances

The dominant wooden roof structure flows throughout the entire design. Starting as the enclosed overhang at the entrance, the structure continues to pierce through the interior of the existing building, becoming a point of interest in the interior.The structure resolves as the large open canopy, providing shelter during an outdoor performance.
