Library & Recreation Update

Enhanced Programs and Services and more The new Library and Recreation Department is here! By partnering more intentionally, we are bringing enhanced programs and services to more areas of the community. This summer, children attending Summer Day Camps had the opportunity to participate in the Summer Reading Game with the Library. New camps were offered in partnership with the school district and popular camps, like Ridge Runners, were expanded to younger children. Sports and aquatics enthusiasts had the opportunity to try a new summer camp that blended the best of all things sporty. The community impacts are not just for children and families. We are also striving to improve services for adults and seniors in our community. Books and Coffee, a drop-in book conversation group, is being hosted monthly at the Senior Center by Library staff. Library, senior center and paratransit staff teams are going out together to retirement communities to share and promote services. Library teams have also been out connecting with our business communities, offering library cards and sharing virtual resources. On July 5, we hosted a launch party for the community at Movies in the Park. Families participated in games and activities representing many of our program areas— theater, sports, environmental education, arts, library, and more. This marks just the beginning of a joint effort to better serve you. We have more exciting community events coming up. Of particular note is the tenyear anniversary celebration for the Alviso Adobe Community Park. Please join us for the celebration on September 22, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (see our ad on page 32 for more details). The Alviso Adobe Community Park is a unique historical asset in the Tri-Valley region. The park is registered as a California historical landmark and houses an original adobe that was built in 1854. The park serves both as an historical and environmental resource, offering interpretive and interactive programs to City of Pleasanton residents and visitors.

Access & Inclusion

The City of Pleasanton Library and Recreation Department invites people with and without disabilities to enjoy our sites, facilities, and programs. For more information, please contact inclusionservices@cityofpleasantonca.gov

A Strategic Plan for this unique park was completed in July 2015 with significant community input that has shaped the programs and services provided. The vision for the park is that the Alviso Adobe Community Park will be celebrated as a valued historical and environmental treasure, with popular interpretive and educational programs, dynamic exhibits and special events that serve the entire community. The mission of the park is to provide a peaceful, rural setting where visitors can explore local history, learn about the environment, and enjoy a variety of both interpretative and interactive programs and events. We invite you to come Discover, Connect, and Enjoy this beautiful community resource. In the coming months we will launch a strategic planning effort to guide the next five years of programs and services for the new Library and Recreation Department. We welcome your input and feedback. If you have ideas you would like to share, please contact Heidi Murphy, Library and Recreation Director, at hmurphy@ cityofpleasantonca.gov or (925) 931-3406.
