Sunflower Soccer Association TOPSoccer Golf Tourney The TOPSoccer program in Topeka recently held their annual golf tournament. Region II Symposiums for TOPSoccer will be held in Indiana in May of 2012 and tentatively in Topeka in the Fall of 2012

USSF Approves Kansas State Hosted National “C” Licensure Course for Spring 2012: KSYSA is pleased to offer a National “C” course, May 12-20 at Ottawa University. Enrollment will begin in January of 2012 using the Got Soccer system. It should be noted that for the Fall of 2012, all coaches who will have teams competing in the Midwest Regional League must have their National “C” License. NSCAA National Convention is Coming to Kansas City! The National Soccer Coaches Association of America is holding their National Conference in Kansas City this January. This is a great opportunity for coaches in our area to receive training and information. NSCAA is giving members of KSYSA special attendance rates as long as they register using their GOT SOCCER account through the KSYSA. If you do not remember your login and password, do NOT create a new account, utilize the "login lookup" function at *Coaches should pay particular attention to a Friday AM course by Taylor Twillman which will address the issue of concussions in youth soccer. This issue will be addressed again on Friday evening in an abbreviated version at our KSYSA Welcome Event along with several other issues and Bylaw amendments at our Annual General Meeting. Coaches who register through KSYSA and Got Soccer will receive a discounted rate of $100 for the entire convention which includes the following: KSYSA Weekend Pass = Convention Pass to Friday morning event; Weekend Pass for access to all Convention sessions; the Exhibit Hall on Saturday and Sunday, and $14 Comets Game Ticket Saturday NSCAA Awards Banquet on Friday evening - Ticket can be added for $50 Schedule of Events can be found by clicking here Remember in order to receive the special rate offered to KSYSA coaches, you need to log into your got soccer account and register through us. KSYSA Director of Coaching, Mark Sheldon announces that several Summer Camps are planned for this summer including: In State Development Camps Players born between 1995 and 2002 – June 25-28, Ottawa University High School Boys – July 23-26, Ottawa University High School Girls – July 30 – Aug 2, Ottawa University Registration will open in January of 2012.

Region II Information – Changes to MRL President’s Cup Tournament and Recreational Five Star Award th

The Region II Board of Directors, (including Presidents, Executive Directors and Directors of Coaching) met October 27-30 in Detroit, Michigan. Among the discussions were – a vote to include U13 teams as part of the Midwest Regional League and the President’s Cup Tournament; some changes in MRL playing format, information about the upcoming accreditation program for Recreational Clubs entitled “The Five Star Award” – (which will be a National award); Approval of the 2012 ODP Calendar and fee changes for several programs. Registrars should have all received communication from the State Office on Wednesday, November 30 regarding webinar training for Got th th th th Soccer which is going to be held December 6 and 7 and December 12 and 13 . State Cup, Jr. State Championships & Presidents’ Cup: KSYSA staff is hard at work preparing for registration to open after the first of the year for our three State Tournaments. Registration for all three of these events will open in early 2012. Kansas State Cup – (Open to U13-U19) will be held at the Overland Park Soccer Complex. CLICK HERE to find out additional information Kansas Presidents Cup – (Open to U13-U17) is pending site approval but is planned for Memorial Day weekend. President’s Cup is designed for teams who might not otherwise get the chance to compete at a Regional, and if they win, a National tournament through US Youth Soccer. Teams who currently compete at a high level, but may not compete well at the State Cup event can use this tournament as a means to achieve Regional and National recognition. Last year KS sent 4 teams to the Regional event and 3 of those qualified for the National event. U15 girls KC Fusion Cummings became National Champions in the President’s Cup. Kansas Jr. State Championships – (Open to U11-U12) is pending site approval. The purpose of the Kansas Jr. State Championships is to provide the opportunity for “elite” teams at the younger age groups to experience a culminating event with competitive significance. The event helps teams gain experience for future Kansas State Cup and Kansas President’s Cup competitions, as well as, Regional and National event competitions. All teams participating in Kansas State Tournament Events must be KSYSA registered teams and have played in a KSYSA sanctioned event.

REFEREE ASSIGNORS On Saturday, December th 17 , there will be a Training Webinar provided to all Referee Assignors on how to use the Got Soccer system. The session is from 9AM to 11AM. You must register online through the Got Soccer system in order to participate.

A NOTABLE TOPIC: Concussions are a big topic of discussion in the media, television shows and medical shows…and rightly so. More young players are being diagnosed with serious head injuries than ever before. US Youth Soccer and KSYSA is also concerned this issue. For our Coaches we will be offering two options to attend an NSCAA Convention activity to learn about this topic and important changes that are coming regarding it.
