Alyson Beytien

Alyson Beytien—the mother of three sons with autism—is a nationally-known, popular speaker on Autism Spectrum Disorders. Beytien is a consultant and trainer for school systems throughout the U.S. on educating and supporting individuals with autism. She specializes in keynote addresses and workshops for educators, support personnel, medical professionals, caregivers, and families. Beytien has a master’s degree in education, specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorders, from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood special education. She is the moderator of DVD training for families and a columnist for Autism Spectrum Quarterly magazine. When she isn’t writing behavior plans, Beytien plays in dirt and hoards quilt fabric.

NEW! Autism in the Classroom This two-part seminar will provide a useful and practical guide for teaching children with autism in a way that will maximize their developmental potential. In the first part, learn strategies for behavior interventions and how to develop a proactive approach by determining why the problem starts. During the second part, learn how to use a variety of visual systems to help autistic children learn more effectively. Participants will be able to make and take examples of how to incorporate visual strategies throughout the day. Instructor: Alyson Beytien. Class notes: 6.5 contact hours awarded to social workers, professional/clinical counselors, physical therapists & occupational therapists. 6.5 ISBE CPDUs awarded to school teachers.

Food Sanitation and Safety This course emphasizes food protection through sanitation training. You will learn proper food care for food service establishments. Successful completion of the course’s qualifying examination qualifies individuals for Illinois Department of Public Health certification.
