FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome Kankakee Community College student athletes, parents, supporters and fans! Participation and success in athletics is often the basis for many of life’s skills and experiences. Competition through KCC’s six intercollegiate sports enhances a student athlete’s desire for excellent while further developing teamwork, communication, time management and commitment skills. As we begin another year of KCC athletics, I continue to be inspired by the level of commitment and determination of our student athletes to succeed not just in their respective sports but in the classroom! Our athletic program, and each sport, begin with the strong dedication of our complete coaching staff and are supported by the KCC Board of Trustees and our community. As parents and educators, we pledge to join your efforts to provide

encouragement and support to our student athletes. It is an honor to be part of the Cavalier family, and I would like to thank the parents of our student athletes, each member of the coaching staff, and the members of our Cavalier Club who help to support our athletic teams. Please join the Board of Trustees, myself, faculty, staff, and all Cavalier fans in wishing each of our teams and coaches a successful season.

2012 RECAP The Cavaliers were ranked No. 16 in the 2012 NJCAA Preseason National poll. Following a number of unexpected losses in the roster and after working around inexperience in every position, the team fought its way through a typically tough schedule to

reach the Region IV title match. The team ended the year ranked in the Top 25 and three players were named to the All-Region IV team.

2013 PREVIEW There is substantial experience in this season’s sophomore class, which has four returnees who played a combined total of 570 sets in 2012. This year’s squad will feature strong defensive play not only from the back court but at the net as well. The roster includes six freshmen and five sophomores. The challenges will be expected early, as the schedule features a number of ranked teams and the majority of the first three weeks of the season will be on the road.

Regarding specific players and positions, both setters, Kalyn Hungerford (Oakfield, Wis.) and Taylor Wood (Gifford) are also capable of hitting and contributing to the offense. The Opposite/Outside Hitters will be Jessica Dziaba (Manteno), Morgan Strate (St. Anne), Morgan Strzok (Orfordville, Wis.) and Victoria Worsfold (Gales-

4

burg). Nearly all of these players have spent some time playing middle blocker in the past. The middle blockers – Jennifer Ostrowski (Kankakee), Janelle Sundine (Wilmington) and Elizabeth Zuber (Olney) – will be called upon foremost for their blocking abilities as the first line of the defense. Elana Rebholz (Pontiac) and Alixandra Miller (Manteno) will be defensive specialists and liberos. Both are capable athletes, while Rebholz is new in the system, they have the potential to excel in the backcourt.
