FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome Kankakee Community College student athletes, parents, supporters and fans! We begin another year of KCC athletics, and I continue to be inspired by the level of commitment and determination of our student athletes to succeed not just in their respective sports but in the classroom! Our athletic program, and each sport, begin with the strong dedication of our complete coaching staff and are supported by the KCC Board of Trustees and our community. Participation and success in athletics is often the basis for many of life’s skills and experiences. Competition through KCC’s six intercollegiate sports enhances a student athlete’s desire for excellence while further developing teamwork, communication, time management and commitment skills. As parents and educators, we pledge to join your efforts to provide encouragement and support to our student athletes. The resources of KCC are available to all student athletes to aid them in the achievement of their educational goals as well as their athletic achievements. The faculty and staff

at the college will always encourage all of our students to set high expectations and to apply themselves toward achieving those goals. It is an honor to be part of the Cavaliers family, and I would like to thank the parents of our student athletes, each member of the coaching staff, and the members of our Cavalier Club who help to support our athletic teams. Please join the Board of Trustees, myself, faculty, staff, and all Cavaliers fans in wishing each of our teams and coaches a successful season. In addition, I hope you will join me in welcoming Mr. Julian Springer as the coordinator of athletic academic success program and head men’s basketball coach for Kankakee Community College. He will play a large role in the academic success of our student athletes.

2011 RECAP In 2011, the KCC Cavaliers women’s volleyball team began the season ranked No. 12 in the NJCAA preseason national poll. Despite having only one returning team member with meaningful college experience and a slow start to the season, the Cavaliers earned its way to the No. 1

seed heading into the Region IV tournament. The team finished the second half of the season with a 17-5 run and had three team members named to the All-Region team, the most from any school.

2012 PREVIEW The Cavaliers will look to have a quick start to the season compared to 2011. Three of four returners averaged more than 140 sets played last season, and they will be the backbone of this year’s squad. The team consists of nine freshmen and four sophomores. They will be challenged immediately as the first half of the 2012 schedule will feature many nationally ranked programs. Two out of the three setters are freshmen. Each will be given an opportunity to run one of the top offenses in the region. The setters are Kalyn Hungerford (freshman; Oakfield, Wis.), Katherine Larson (sophomore, Matteson) and Kayla Pennington (freshman, Fairfield). The squad of outside hitters are versatile, having played a number of other positions in the past. They are: Brit-

tany Hull (freshman, Chebanse), Keona Kelly (sophomore, Gardner), Elana Rebholz (freshman, Pontiac), Colleen Quigley (freshman, Milford) and Kaitlyn Wagennaar (sophomore; Dyer, Ind.). The middle blockers can best be described as “interchangeable.” All three players can play multiple positions. The middle blockers are Jessica Dziaba (freshman, Manteno), Marche’ Hammeren (sophomore, Olney) and Jennifer Ostrowski (freshman, Kankakee). Though inexperienced, the defensive specialists/liberos are very quick in the back row and can serve tough to keep opponents off balance. The defensive specialists/ liberos are Mallory Gross (freshman, Chebanse) and Alixandra Miller (freshman, Manteno).
