Your Wedding Vows Your wedding vows are extremely personal. They’re the special words that will marry you, and they represent your commitment to one another. This assortment of traditional and nontraditional, religious and secular wedding vows can get you started on finding the right ones for you. If you are getting married in a religious setting, check with your officiant as she/he may have specific words that you cannot deviate from. Otherwise, feel free to add your own embellishments, loving words, and inside jokes. Traditional wedding vows:

I, (Bride/Groom), take you (Groom/Bride), to be my (wife/husband), to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part. I, (name), take you, (name), to be my [opt: lawfully wedded] (husband/wife), my constant friend, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward. In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times

and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

In the presence of God and these our friends I take thee to be my husband/wife, promising with Divine assistance to be unto thee a loving and faithful husband/ wife so long as we both shall live. I (name), take you (name) to be my (husband/wife), my partner in life and my one true

love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live. I, [name], choose you [name] to be my [husband/wife], to respect you in your successes and in your failures, to care for you in sickness and in health, to nurture you, and to grow with you throughout the seasons of life. I, (name), take you, (name), to be my friend,

my lover, the (mother/ father) of my children and my (husband/wife). I will be yours in times of plenty and in times of want, in times of sickness and in times of health, in times of joy and in times of sorrow, in times of failure and in times of triumph. I promise to cherish and respect you, to care and protect you, to comfort and encourage you, and stay with you, for all eternity. I, (name), take you, (name), to be my partner, loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know. I eagerly anticipate the chance to grow together, getting to know the (man/woman) you will become, and falling in

love a little more every day. I promise to love and cherish you through whatever life may bring us. After both have said individual vows, they may wish to say something in unison such as: Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you, for where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. And where you die, I will die and there I will be buried. May the Lord do with me and more if anything but death parts you from me. This is a traditional Jewish text from the book of Ruth.

Wedding Dates to Avoid in 2013 & 2014 Personally Significant Days Check your own calendar for college reunions, family weddings, anniversaries or other events, like big conventions or festivals in your city (call your local chamber of commerce), and any annual occasions that involve your family or close friends. Holiday Weekends Holiday weekend weddings have pros and cons. You’ve got an extra day for the festivities (and recovery!); plus, a Sunday wedding is often less expensive than a Saturday one would be. However, costs of travel and hotels may be higher. And if you’re looking to marry around Valentine’s Day, be wary of your floral bill, especially if you’ve got your heart set on red roses -- they’ll likely be more expensive than at any other time of the year. Likewise, reception sites often charge a higher fee for a New Year’s Eve wedding. Also consider the impact of a holiday weekend on your guest list: Some families have standing plans or traditions that they’d prefer not to miss. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (always a Monday) Weekend of January 19-21, 2013 Weekend of January 18-20, 2014 Presidents’ Day (always a Monday) Weekend of February 16-18, 2013 Weekend of February 15-17, 2014 Mother’s Day (always a Sunday) Make sure your moms are okay sharing this weekend with your wedding. And ask yourself, do you want your anniversary to fall the same weekend as Mother’s Day when (or if) you become a mom? Weekend of May 11-12, 2013 Weekend of May 10-11, 2014

AMERICAN LEGION POST #51 BY REQUEST REFERRALS AVAILABLE!

Friday the 13th The unluckiest date of the year has questionable origins. Some historians say it comes from the 13 diners who were present at the last supper, but the famous Code of Hammurabi doesn’t include a 13th law, which suggests this superstition is as many as 3 millennia old. And it wasn’t until a successful novel titled Friday the Thirteenth was published in the early 1900s that Friday became part of the unlucky equation. The Ides of March For ancient Romans, an “ides” was simply a date that marked the middle of the month -- until Julius Caesar was assassinated on March 15 in 44 B.C. Since then, “Beware the Ides of March” has become the mantra of this superstitiously unlucky date. Friday, March 15, 2013 Saturday, March 15, 2014

ALFRED W. F. HUF Alfred Walter Ferdinand Huf, a resident of Ashland, Wis., died on Monday April 1, 2013 in Duluth with his family by his side, following complications from a heart attack. He was 72 years old. He was born in Machnow, Germay, on June 1, 1940, the son of Alfred Gustav and Dora Eva Huf. He was united in marriage to Linda Joyce Hoffman on Dec. 7, 1968, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Kroschel. He spent his life working at various positions from his apprenticeship at Automauer in Germany, Tuflite in New York, Nord Photo in Hinckley, Anderson Ibeck and most of his time at Fingerhut, where he was able to pursue his love for the graphic arts. He loved taking pictures wherever he went and listening to music of all kinds. One of the most stubborn, smart aleck Germans ever born, he loved cheesecake, guns, cameras, fireworks, skipping rocks, and his family. He began his life in a warscarred Germany, then proceeded to spread his brand of smart aleck around the world, making many stories as he went, stories that he would be happy to tell over a beer, and some bread and cheese. He was never short of friends; and if he was ever bored, he’d go and meet some new ones at the local coffee shop. He is survived by wife, Linda; brothers, Wiemann Huf of Kippenhiem, Germany and Hensien Huf of Hamburg, Germany; son, Dr. Alfred (Tammy) Huf Jr.; daughter, Janine (Robert) Boyd; grandchildren, Brigitte, Andrew, Sophia, Drew and Steve; and many other brothers and sisters-in-law; along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Mountain Funeral Home, 220 Third Avenue East, Ashland, Wis. A gathering, for family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Saturday. A life celebration will follow at the Ashland Legion Hall across from the funeral home. Please forward memorials in lieu of flowers to: “The Brick” food shelf, 420 Ellis Avenue, Ashland, Wis. 54806, on behalf of Al. Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services, of Ashland and Mellen, Wis., has been entrusted with the details of services. Online messages of condolence may be left at the Funeral Home website: MountainFuneralHomes. com.
