“Fashion condemns us to many follies the greatest is to make ourselves its slave” Napoleon Bonaparte sure said that right. HONK! is not following any rules, doesn’t know any boundaries or obstacles and pretty much does whatever it wants.

If we think something is HONK! than it is HONK! and if something doesn't fit the magazine because it doesn't match the theme or the magazine is already more then full of content but we still think the world just needs to see it we might as well just create a new platform for it. May I proudly introduce you to HONK!s little sister HONK!Editorial. As we get so many great editorials that are just way to unique to put on hold or to deny we decided to find another way to let you be a part of HONK! Just as in HONK!magazine there is no VIP treatment. It has always been about first come first serve and about how genius an artist a designer or photographer is to us. We don't care about how expensive a shooting is or what labels are in it. It is about the artist's ability to think wayyyyy to much outside the box. Sometimes we even have to wright artists on all these social networks and ask them if we may use there work for our issue and they never even thought of how talented they were. Well here is some news: WE WILL FIND YOU! HONK!Editorial will be published 3 times a year. There will be no topic for it. It will simply be about editorials we just can't keep you from taking a good look at. Now, enough said. Enjoy the very first issue of HONK!Editorial. Sincerely

F F U t S O “I D N O I H S A F H T I W

Fashion is so much more!

71

How many times have you heard this phrase coming from the perfectly painted lips of a fashionlover? Countless times! It does sound like nothing but a justification for the obsession with fashion and design, most of the times that is. If you want to be a little mean then this sentence could translate to: “I am interested in fashion indeed, but I’m not all about surface, really, I swear, I still got some brains!”

N!”

Interesting. Why do people have the feeling that a dedication to the fashionworld means a commitment to superficial and unimportant things? You gotta admit that the fashion industry is not planning on bettering the planet or achieving world piece. But then again, the provision industry doesn’t either.

A whole paper could be written debating this very issue that our passion for fashion creates. Fashion in its purest form, as it’s being dictated by the social changes, same as with all trends. We really don’t see why any person, who is interested in the exterior would be less cultivated than a person who wanders around in strictly practical clothes.

Let’s stick with the example of foodstuff. Everyone’s got to eat to stay alive. It’s just basic needs. Clothing we do have to wear as well. In case we didn’t we would oppose societal norms and below a certain temperature we would also freeze to death. Nudity can be something beautiful but seeing 200 nudes in the tube could surely not be one of the most inspiring and motivating sights on your way to work. So, clothing belongs to the basic needs. Then why should it be considered superficial to wear a cashmere oversize pullover instead of a fleece pullover, when it is perfectly normal to make fine gratin out of potatoes? Man works with what man’s got. And this doesn’t stop with clothing!

Perceiving fashion on a level, that goes way beyond the occasional shopping hobby, means a talent for proportions, a feeling for colours, and the art of being open to anything new. Fashion is the idea of creating something fascinatingly aesthetic out of a basic need. So the linkage to demanding productions that look like they could be hanging somewhere in the Louvre is more than reasonable and expected.

Still, one gets the feeling that the creative ones of today are trying too hard to fill in the gap that the supposed shallowness creates, often with farfetched artistic sprouts. Plain to see in many an editorial shooting. No fashion magazine can manage without the extreme artistic spreads anymore. No photographer trying to establish a name would dare exclude there super artistic shoots and no model hoping to reach a top-model status can do that without being some designer’s muse. There is little you haven’t seen yet. Being influenced by art is a good solution to being taken seriously. Even the urbane intellectual is to be found in installations and exhibitions today.

On the one hand you have to wonder on whether fashion really needs to justify itself against this supposed superficiality or whether the photographers, stylists and producers should just let fashion be fashion for the same reason.

Yet fashion doesn’t really need that. Fashion doesn’t have to decorate itself with the foreign feathers of art. But why shouldn’t it use art when it is in human nature to work with anything available at the time?

Fashion and art can be a beautiful couple, when their relationship is that of equals. A perfect love story.

HONK!: Hello, welcome at HONK! We love your fashion. Who and what is the label “Mila Miyahara”? MILA MIYAHARA: Mila Miyahara are Eva Lotter Brüdersdorf and Nadine Miyahara. Together with our assistants and Berliner dressmakers we create fashion to dress women. HONK!: Since when do you exist? MILA MIYAHARA: Our label was created in April 2009, which means nearly 3 years ago. HONK!: 2 designers – 1 label. Are you splitting the work? Who is in charge of what? MILA MIYAHARA: Yes, we do split up the tasks, and it works very well. Nadine is in charge of the designing and Eva is responsible for the marketing. HONK!: Your designs speak for unadorned elegance. Which woman wears “Mila Miyahar”? MILA MIYAHARA: Our patterns are designed with the cosmopolitan woman in mind. She is confident and elegant, knows what she wants, where she wants to. We are targeting women who are aware of their femininity and who can appreciate high quality fabrics and clothes that compliment the feminine figure.

HONK!: What can you customers expect for spring/summer 2012? Where do you take us? MILA MIYAHARA: The journey goes into the kingdom of geometrical patterns and asymmetrical symmetry. The Mila Miyahara spring/summer collection 2012 is playing with the female body like a feather and accompanies the modern woman to any occasion. Geometrical patterns are floating into the design and can be traced in the completed creation. Dots, squares, rectangles and triangles are put together in asymmetry. The pictures of Klara Kant are showing the woman of today: clear cuts, soft haptics, edgy detail and floating fabrics are spelling out the multitude of feminine qualities. Be it an afternoon coffee with a friend or an evening visit to a hot cocktail party –in these outfits every woman can shine ideally. We have even thought of the perfect beach appearance with 2 astonishing bathing suits. On the red carpet women can shine in our gowns as well. HONK!: Where did you draw inspiration for the collection? MILA MIYAHARA: The new matter-of-factness and geometry. We want to create a new matter-offactness.

HONK!: The Berlin Fashion Week is coming up. Will you be showing there? MILA MIYAHARA: Of course. On the 18th of January we will be showing our H/W-Collection 2012/13 in the Felix-Club Restaurant, the club of Hotel Adlon. You can contact us about it through email: contact@milamiyahara.com HONK!: How important is this whole fashion circus for a new label like you? MILA MIYAHARA: This so-called circus is very important for us, if Berlin wants to be considered an internationally accepted Fashion Capital. For a cultural society it is important to care about culture, and to that belongs fashion as well and taking it seriously. Unfortunately Berlin still cant stand a comparison with the biggest fashion metropolis, we are not conscious enough yet. Just imagine that in other countries there are whole television stations about fashion purely. The fashion scene feeds of the so called hypes. HONK!: We wish you good luck!
