High quality wool from all around the world. Our story starts with sourcing high quality wool from all around the world which ensures consistent quality year after year. The wool is then blended and spun by hand to create our truly unique yarn. The Kaleen yarn is then hand dyed using several different techniques creating vibrant, rich colors in a variety of styles and shades.

Master weavers and ancient techniques. Kaleen’s Master Weavers still use ancient rug making techniques such as hand knotting and hand tufting when creating our rugs. Once crafted, Kaleen rugs are then carved by hand and treated with our proprietary organic latex. The Kaleen latex is equally as important and unique to our process of creating a tufted rug. Our latex protects our rugs from breakage and naturally acts as a mold preventative.

Eco-friendly manufacturing. Eco-friendly manufacturing, organic materials and a deep compassion for life on earth is what makes Kaleen more than just a brand - it’s a lifestyle. Kaleen’s manufacturing facilities are Green Energy Certified and harness electricity from the sun using solar panels and use water recycling systems for clean water. Kaleen manufacturing facilities are ISO 9000 & SA8000 certified and implore an effective quality assurance program that includes the constant checking and maintaining of the eight management principles which all requirements are based upon.

Construction Glossary.

HAND-TUFTED

Affordable luxury. Kaleen’s hand-tufted rugs are typically made using 100% imported wool or a wool-blend. Due to their thick piles and the way they are constructed, hand-tufted rugs are great to use in heavy traffic areas and will provide beauty for many years to come. When making a hand-tufted rug the first step is always the design. Once Kaleen’s artists have the look finalized, they begin to trace the design onto a full-size canvas – this step is called mapping. With the use of a tufting gun, skilled artisans punch Kaleen’s unique, hand-dyed yarns through the canvas bringing each rug to life, strand-by-strand. Once the rug is finished being tufted, Kaleen’s proprietary latex is then applied to the bottom of the rug – further fusing the canvas and yarn. While the latex is still wet, the bottom of the rug is then covered with Kaleen’s signature cotton backing, which helps to protect the rug from breakage and skidding. HAND-WOVEN/HAND-LOOMED

Dedicated to the craft. Requiring expert knowledge of ancient weaving techniques, skilled artisans use traditional methods of weaving to produce a flat-weave, single pile rug with extremely detailed patterns. Hand-knotted rugs are woven on a vertical or horizontal loom where each detail is brought to life using a single piece of yarn called a weft. The yarn (weft) gets tied by hand to the loom (warp), then moved into place using a beater. The process takes 1 to 4 weavers, working on the same rug months to finish one rug depending on the size.

JACQUARD-LOOM

Jacquard loomed rugs are power-loomed, but with an extraordinary attachment—the Jacquard device consists of thousands of punched cards that allows complex patterns to be woven quickly.

MACHINE-MADE/PRINTED (CHROMO JET)

The functional principle of the ChromoJet process is similar to that of an office ink jet printer. The printer follows a computer created design and injects the dyes with surgical precision deep into the face of the carpet which creates the beautiful patterns.

POWER-LOOMED/MACHINE-MADE

Machine-made rugs, also known as machine-woven or loom woven rugs, are rugs woven on power looms operated either by hand, machine, or computer. Moreover, machine-made rugs can imitate the patterns used in the most popular handmade designs at much more affordable prices.

UV-TREATED

Care & Cleaning

ALL KALEEN PRODUCTS ARE UNIQUE BY NATURE. ROUTINE CARE AND CLEANING ARE VITAL TO MAINTAINING THE LONG-TERM DURABILITY AND APPEARANCE OF YOUR PRODUCT.

For maximum appearance retention, rotate your rug every 3-6 months. Kaleen’s outdoor products come UV treated to prevent fading from the sun. Rugs that are placed in direct sunlight will naturally fade at a faster rate then rugs that are not.

To clean your indoor/outdoor rugs, use a spray bottle and combine 5% dish soap to 95% cold water and mix (not shake) well. Using the spray bottle, apply the detergent and water solution to the entire top side of the rug. Let the solution sit for a few minutes and then rinse using your garden hose until the water runs clear, and your rug is clean. Do not use any harsh chemical cleaners or power washers on your rug as this may speed-up the fading and affect its durability.
