Here we will further discuss these different types of public housing in detail. 1.

Build-to-order (BTO) HDB flats:

The build-to-order HDB flats are brand new properties specially designed for young couples and people looking for a brand new starter home. As per the benefit of BTO scheme the eligible new HDB flat buyers can choose their units from the sites launched at their preferred location. But for purchasing a BTO HDB flat you need to speculate the design much before that is made and take the decision accordingly. The BTO HDB flat is the most affordable of the lot, buyers can also opt for open concept kitchens as it’s cheaper than others, with no flooring and plumbing and the sorts. 2.

Executive Condominiums (EC):

The Executive Condominiums is a hybrid of public and private housing, as these houses mainly built to cater the students and professionals who can afford more than HDB flats

but less than private condos. They usually resemble private condominiums and are enclosed within a gated compound with security, amenities like swimming pools, clubhouses, playgrounds, and the works. Though built and sold by private developers, they come at a price lower than private homes because their land prices are subsidized by the government. So EC is the smartest public housing option in the property market of Singapore. 3.

Design, Build and Sell Scheme (DBSS) flats:

These DBSS flats are for those who want to settle in between BTO HDB flat and the Executive Condos. It’s a very lucrative option that has been introduced recently by Singapore’s Housing Development Board in 2005. These flats built under this scheme were meant for public housing and developed by private developers and agencies. And once the project is completed, it will be handed over to HDB to manage the development further. Design-wise, these flats are usually a lot more elegant than a typical HDB flat. It costs more too because it is usually furnished with things, such as; kitchens cabinets, bathrooms, cabinets, and air cons. But DBSS units do not come with swimming pools, gyms, and other luxurious facilities, which make it different than private condos. The bottom line: The HDB flats for sale in Singapore are the most popular as well as the cheapest option in the property market as we have mentioned earlier. It is a unique provision provided by the government of Singapore under the tag of the Housing and Development Board. Now more than 80% of Singaporeans live in HDB flats, as the Pricing of public housing flats is typically cheaper than privately built developments. So you can go through the aforementioned options of public housing and can choose according to your budget and requirement. Now there are certain eligibility criteria that are applicable, which you need to check before purchasing an HDB flat in Singapore.
