Project: Summit Ambulatory Surgery Center Location: Charlotte, NC Sector: Healthcare Fall Fourth Year Studio: October+November 2018 Square Footage: 5200 sq ft Revit & Photoshop
Group Project with A. Ochrymowicz, M. Duran, J. Diamond
CONCEPT & PLAN SUMMIT was inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina and the personal journey to health and well being. Patients physically and mentally go on a hike in this Ambulatory Surgery Center as the arboreal architectural components start to introduce subtle biophilic features which have been proven to aid in recovery. The creek circulates you through the space while the adjacent forests are fully immersive and representative of the obstacles faced while hiking. The spatial composition was perfected in order to lead you to the peak of the mountain, the PACU, where patients summit into recovery after their path from illness to wellness.

Spring Third Year Studio: March- April 2018 Square Footage: 5,000 sq ft Revit & Photoshop
CONCEPT & PLAN The brain is one of the sole parts of the body. The brain holds memories, thoughts, knowledge, talents and skills and is a focus when studying psychology. The study of left and right brain is also studied with left brain being the ability to work well with numbers (math and science) and the right brain is having talent and creative abilities. Within the UF Psychology proposal below, there are spaces that encourage more individual private work spaces and group spaces for more collaborative work. The individual private work spaces relate similarly to the left brain where the collaborative group spaces relate similarly to right brain work. Architecturally, the space is divided grid like and symmetrical similarly to left brain thinking. However, bringing in the right brain by incorporating curvilinear shapes an intersections of repetitive lines.
Project: SMILE Autism Center Location: Gainesville, FL Sector: Education Spring Fourth Year Studio: August-September 2018 Square Footage: 15,000 sq ft Revit & Photoshop
Group Project with A. Whaley
CONCEPT & PLAN SMILE is a small vocational facility serving as an educational and training space for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The center encourages social interaction in which clients can expand their conversational capabilities and learn to interact with others. This supportive environment also encourages motivation by implementing places of physical activity alongside other members. Additionally, clients are inspired to expand their knowledge and ability to become self-sufficient by learning to cook on their own, and explore their artisitic potential. These experiences will enhance and maximize development and encourage independence. This supportive environment will ultimately motivate an individual with ASD to engage in conversation and improve their overall quality of life.
CRAFT AND EXERCISE ROOM
The privacy nooks serve the purpose of providing a quick getaway spot for clients who need a space to calm down and recollect. The nooks seat up to two members and can help with counselors communication with an individual. The privacy nooks are fairly central to the space in that it serves those in all locations of the building for easy access. The nooks are entirely private and hidden but still visible should a counselor need to observe or check on a client. The seating of nooks are entirely upholstered for clients to rest in without injury and there is personal lights in each nook with dimmible and adjustable options.
The kitchen develops ASD’s independent living skills and teaches them how to live on their own and provide for themselves. This space addi tionally has a sliding glass wall for more private cooking classes and more open ones. The kitchen opens up to the lounge space encouraging social izing between both the lounge and the kitchen
Lighting: Clients have the ability to dim the light to their preference while sitting in the quiet room. Regardless of their sensitivities, the space caters to all ASD clients by giving them lighting options. Spatial: This space is small enough for one client to escape to but large enough for a counselor or family member to join them. The quiet room is located close to the most social space, the lounge, should a client become overwhelmed with a communicative environment.
Sensory: ASD clients may need a place to escape to, should they begin to feel overstimulated. Within the quiet room there is a fish tank for clients to observe that includes bubbles and nature views. Additionally, there is flexible seating for the client to sit upright or recline their feet. Lastly, the interactive wall explores the client’s emotions and helps the counselor understand what the client feels. Each color represents a different feeling, and additionally illminates the room. Clients can place their colored chip on the feeling wall, which encourages interaction and exploring their emotions.
