Roles Conceptual Design for Promenade and Ferry Terminal Design Pontianak as a riverfront city needs to acquire its objectives as a livable, smart, and green city through revitalization of Kapuas Riverfront Area. Promenade, along with other public and spatial forms, are designed to create activity generator to bring back Kapuas River as its urban artery. This promenade is designed to integrate with both existing and planned spaces to motivate urban activities along the river.

THE CITY

0

City of Pontianak is the capital of Kalimantan Barat (West Kalimantan Province) which known for its position laid exactly on the equator. In the past, the developments in this city started along Kapuas River, that explained old settlements existed. While roads and streets had taken over, the riverfront is unfortunately neglected. Developments had been oriented towards the roads. The goal is to reestablish the riverfront as a distinctive urban figure.

THE SITE The site covers about five kilometers in length along northern edge of Kapuas River, which contained distinctive physical spatial elements. Various functions spread throughout the riverside, while commercial and dwellings are commonly found. However, as the river is still considered as its primary hub, piers and docks for waterway are inadequate. The lack of public spaces also directed the riverfront to be neglected as the city’s focal point.

This types are addresed for residential and settlement areas nearby. It facilitates small motorboats or jetty to dock by local fishermen.

This basic type is the first essential element in the entire promenade. It forms the basic needs of pedestrians, public spaces, and greenery. This type has four varietes, differentiate its hardscape and material patterns. TYPE 1 THE PEDESTRIAN

This type located spesifically to connect the main road with the waterfront promenade. It plays as a landscape element with sidewalks, trees, and urban furnitures.

The extended of previous version, more docks are attached to accomodate watertaxi and excursion boats.

This type accomodates small to medium-sized vessel attached with a shelter for a watertaxi stop.

MASTERPLAN The Waterfront Promenade reaches out from Equator Monument in the northwest to Landak Bridge in the east. There are ten corridors, attached with docks and piers to accomodate the waterway system. Five types of promenade are designed based on the site’s capabilities and requirements. The main idea was formed to expand more public open space in the precinct.

PASAR PURING HUB FERRY TERMINAL AND TRANSIT HOTEL

THE SITE

As the urban artery, Kapuas River plays an essential role to the city’s urban activities. Water transportation is primary used to maintain urban mobility throughout the City of Pontianak. Onward the development of the promenade, revitalization of the surrounding public spaces is on demand. One of the hot spots is the Terminal at Pasar Puring. The main idea is to evolve this terminal as a hub for both water and land transportation, therefore improvements in social, economy, infrastructure, and urban aesthetics are expected.

The main purpose of The Hub is to accomodate ground and water transportation as an integrated facility to support the city’s network. Seamless accessibility is the primary concept which applied to all types of vehicles, vessels, and pedestrian. Transit hotel is a complimentary addition to trigger the city’s development as well as cityscape improvements.

The Hub compliments the promenade as a unity to promote developments along the river. This should benefit towards the city’s improvements in any aspects, specifically the urbanscapes.

Located on Jalan Jombang Raya, a bustling street in Bintaro, Tangerang Selatan. This apartment provides more residential alternatives within Metropolitan Jakarta. The 30-storeys housing with 476 units targets middle to high-end customers, integrated with commercials, leisure, and public facilities.

South Tangerang is a developing city which started as a compilation of residential zones at the outskirt of Jakarta. It was a suburban area that has been emerged to an independent city as the population around Metropolitan Area of Jakarta increases. Bintaro and Bumi Serpong Damai are the two biggest dwelling complex which provided landed residentials. Therefore, demand for housing has been rising ever since, particularly vertical dwellings.

As one of the form of built environment, local wisdom is one of the aspect for a building to respect the context. The purpose was to preserve the culture in a form of physical entities. As an apartment, the aspect was applied to the decorative element as well as a double layer to provide shades. The patterns are a metaforic approach taken from batik pamaranggen, the local heritage cloth.

The layers are plotted on tower and podium. It gives a perfect perspective from the east elevation, where it faces the main street. The structure was design to be as light as possible, using Glassfiber Reinforced Cements which supported by steel and iron frames. The GRC is relatively sustainable and waterproof.

Nanga Bulik is the emerging capital of Lamandau Regency, which purposed as the economy and social epicentrum for its regency. As part of the province’s government program, a regulation and policing for urban’s physical spatial elements are needed to support Nanga Bulik’s vision as a developed town.

130 km from the nearest major city Pangkalan Bun, Nanga Bulik has promising potentials to become the province’s major town, it has beautiful scenery, clean environments, and increasing socio-economic growth. The site covers about 55 Ha, divided to three corridors each with significant characteristic. These characteristic, however, lack of designed urban elements. Building dissaray is one of the visible issues that needed to be ordered to enhance its townscapes.

Suburban Bandung was categorized as the hillside part of northern Bandung. The site was situated around residential area, which some of them has converted to hotels, cottages, and cafes. To support the city’s emerging tourism market, a recreational park was purposed to promote tourism through educations, natural resources, beautiful scenery, and green building.

The city of Bandung has been one of Java’s urban oasis since colonial times. This landlocked city is famous for its terrain and cooler climate. For the past ten years, Bandung has emerged as a recreation city which provide various leisure spots, from nature to built attractions. The site was perfect as an eco-friendly recreational park which the city needed more. Birdpark was choosen as an integrated facility to improve educational tourism as well as preservations.

Rice fields and plantations are the views facing the eastern part of the site, panoramic scene towards greenery spaces. SITE OVERVIEW

The site is 1.2 Hectare with 30% of BCR, which brings out more green spaces to preserve. These spaces are perfect for aves ecosystem. Surrounded by medium-density residential, the area was covered with local businesses along with converted guest houses.

A bird’s sequence of life is taken as an analogy to design the primary recreation concept. Where visitors are guided through a series of space sequences that visualizes lifecycle of a bird. Both recreational and educational purposes are achieved through integrated spaces between natural and built environment.

HARMONIC DIVERGENCE This theme is taken from the two primary users, human and birds in the context of suburban Bandung. The two different species would create a harmony through design elements, in indoors and outdoors, vertical and horizontal, as well as natural and built environment. For example on the graphics on the right, built elevated platform is aligned for birds and humat to interact smoothly.

The main building plays an internal role in the site which provides the main indoor aviary, the museum, auditorium, library, offices, and parkings on basement.

The contoured terrain is an advantage to design the landscape on many aspects, including ramps, skybridge, amphitheatre, and more.
