measuring your space So now that you’re inspired after looking through our latest kitchen designs, it’s time to start planning your own space. The first step is understanding the space you have to work with, so you know how much you can fit in.

Start by measuring your kitchen accurately, remembering to measure and mark:

1

floor to the ceiling/bulkhead

2

floor to window height

3

any wall lengths, e.g. wall to wall, wall to window, wall to door

4

*waste service points: wall waste pipe (WWP) to floor, OR floor waste pipe (FWP) to wall

5

height from floor to incoming water source (usually located inside your sink cabinet)

6

mark all windows with a ‘W’ (measure to the outside of the architrave)

7

mark all doorways with a ‘D’ or ‘SD’ (measure to the outside of the architrave)

8

mark the location of any service points like light switches, powerpoints and gas

top planning tips do

don’t

• Think about what you like/dislike in your current kitchen.

• Position cooking appliances under windows or near inward opening doors (especially gas units).

• Think about what your kitchen will be used for (e.g. cooking and food preparation or entertaining). • Consider how many people will be utilising the kitchen. • For traffic areas and island benchtops we recommend allowing 1200mm from the benchtop on the island to the opposite cabinet/appliance. • Ensure the location of the sink bowl is centred over a suitable size cabinet. • Consult your manufacturers’ specifications for appliances prior to installing your kitchen. • Enjoy your new kitchen! 24

• Place your fridge and cooking appliances next to one another. • Attempt to undertake electrical or plumbing work yourself—all electrical and plumbing work must be carried out by a licensed electrician or plumber. • Position your rangehood any closer than 650mm from the top of your hob stove. • Forget your end panels—these are needed on either side of appliance cabinets and to cover the exposed side of cabinet runs. • Forget to leave a minimum of 300mm clearance on either side of your cooktop to any pantries or panels.

choose your layout Once you know how much space you have to work with, you then need to choose your layout. It may be based on the kitchen you’re replacing or it may be a totally new design. Just remember to leave enough space in between benchtops to allow for opening cabinet doors and traffic in the kitchen. Wherever possible, try to incorporate the working triangle.

working triangle

U-shape kitchen

This is the distance between your cooktop, fridge and sink. The most effective work spaces allow 1200mm between each of these stations to minimise movement in the kitchen.

The U-shape is most commonly suited to larger kitchen spaces and is the perfect layout for families who spend lots of time in the kitchen.

L-shape kitchen

L-shape island kitchen

The L-shape kitchen suits open plan living areas, smaller areas and long rooms. It also enables you to move freely between the various areas within the kitchen and gives you ample benchtop working space.

straight line kitchen The straight line kitchen is ideal for small and narrow areas, but can also comfortably accommodate larger kitchens. It’s a simple kitchen design and is often the most inexpensive.

An island in this format is most suited to larger, more spacious kitchens. Additional cabinets and benchtop work space also makes this kitchen family friendly and an entertainers paradise.

galley kitchen The galley kitchen is a functional kitchen design that allows you to reach all areas of the kitchen with minimal walking distance. A galley kitchen is contemporary and the choice of many chefs.

built to last a lifetime the kaboodle lifetime advantage At kaboodle we offer a 10 year warranty on all cabinets, hinges and drawer runners, handles, doors and panels and laminate benchtops in our range. We do know however, that if products are well cared for—they’ll last a lifetime. That’s why we’re confident in offering the kaboodle lifetime advantage.

kaboodle lifetime advantage

The kaboodle lifetime advantage means that all cabinet frames come with a 10 year structural warranty, but this is extended to a lifetime warranty for the entire time you own and live in your home. So that’s it, as your family grows, so will our support. That’s the kaboodle lifetime advantage and our way of saying thanks for letting us be part of your family.

tested, tested and re-tested We’re proud to be one of a small number of manufacturers who have had selected cabinets tested and certified to the stringent requirements of the Australian Furnishing Research and Development Institute (AFRDI). AFRDI testing includes rigorous tests and assessment on construction, durability, safety, strength and choice of components used in domestic kitchens and are based on the Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4386.1.

We recommend when researching and buying your new kitchen to look for the AFRDI tick. note: Selected cabinets using standard hardware have been tested to meet the AFRDI tick. Please contact our customer service hotline on 0800 522 663 for more information.
