A leader in its field, D C Leisure Management Limited (DCLM) specialises in the development and management of leisure facilities in partnership with local authorities throughout the UK. With a 13 year track record of optimising the performance of public leisure centres so that they can better serve the local community and achieve both economic and social objectives, DCLM has already implemented improvements of real worth in urban and rural leisure communities spanning 118 sites and 30 clients.
Situation With an IT system campus of approximately 110 remote sites distributed throughout England, almost all with their own local server, a further head office server farm of some 20 servers and over 1,500 desktop PCs spread across the country, the sheer quantity of devices made it extremely difficult and time consuming for DCLM to effectively manage asset management and patch update, effectively opening DCLM to risks from being unable to prove licensing compliance, as well as a potential security and virus risk as it was virtually impossible to ensure that all personal computers and servers were running the latest security patches and anti-virus definitions.

“we rely heavily on our it infrastructure. we needed a solution that would reduce costs, implement and enforce policies, monitor server performance and identify potential problems before they could impact our network performance” Phil White, IT Manager
Additionally DCLM’s IT Manager, Phil White was aware that with such a diverse server network, a solution needed to be implemented that would allow efficient network monitoring so that proactive actions could be taken before issues escalated and servers failed. “We rely heavily on our IT infrastructure,” explained Phil White. “We needed a solution that would reduce costs, implement and enforce policies, monitor server performance and identify potential problems before they could impact our network performance.” Solution DCLM approached K3 to explore how the K3 Network Management Service could ensure software licensing compliance, minimise security and virus risk, identify and react proactively to potential failures, and reduce network management costs. One advantage, immediately identified by Phil White was the K3 Network Management Service was web-based service and, in addition to being remotely deployed across a large and disparate networks, would also provide DCLM IT staff with portal access, so that they could monitor the asset list for each site, view the health status of their network and receive instant notification of action alerts. K3 also provides DCLM with a nationwide, on-site-repair managed service against strict SLAs to ensure that the entre hardware infrastructure (PCs, printers, servers, etc.) remains up and running.
Outcome Now live, the K3 Network Management Service has had a dramatic effect upon the day-to-day activities of DCLM’s IT department. With real-time, proactive monitoring in place, staff are now free to focus on core activities instead of reacting to issues when they have already escalated. The same service also provides Phil White with the peace-of-mind that all personal computers and servers are now running the latest security patches and anti-virus definitions, greatly increasing overall network security and reducing the threat of attack. And as the service is web-based, Phil White and his staff can monitor performance from any location. • Computer Audit and Discovery provides automatic audits of DCLM’s servers, workstations and remote computers allowing an instant view the complete inventory. • Remote Desktop Management delivers the tools needed for secure remote access to all of DCLM’s computers with
complete administrative control over remote control functions, including passwords, notification method, screen mode and control level. • Patch Management to keep DCLM’s servers, workstations and remote computers up-to-date with the latest security patches and updates. • Network and Computer Monitoring, with a 360 degree view of the network so that potential issues can be headed off before they become problems. • Windows event log monitoring and alerts provides proactive userdefined monitoring with instant notification of problems or changes so that DCML’s IT department can proactively manage its systems and keep the organisation running. • Software deployment, delivering easy, fast and reliable software deployment for DCLM’s entire computing infrastructure.
• Nationwide on-site hardware repair service provides DCLM with security and piece of mind.
Dclm approaced K3 to explore how the k3 network management service could ensure software licensing compliance, minimise security and virus risk, identify and react proactively to potential failures and reduce network management costs.
