Somerset Valley YMCA
STRENGTHEN THE FOUNDATIONS OF our COMMUNITY
Annual Support Campaign
Our vision The Somerset Valley YMCA will be a strong visible and diverse organization that provides premier community services to build healthy spirits, minds and bodies in the communities we serve.
The Y is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit like no other. Our organization exists to address community needs as they arise. We are evolutionary in how we support others, continuously striving to form new collaborations with community partners to address need. The Y relies on your donations as we strive to meet the demands of financial assistance requests, especially when other organizations have discontinued this option. We also support the needs of many who may not be members of our Y, but benefit from our services.
Helping Individuals Reach Full Potential F inding time to better ourselves is often difficult. Our services are based on a holistic wellness approach that supports the needs of individuals with the following: • Character Development • Goal Setting • Special Needs • College Readiness • Wellness Coaching The Somerset Valley Y is home to the most honored competitive Swim Team in New Jersey. Over 450 Somerset Valley Y Swim Team members participate in life-changing experiences that prepare them for college, jobs and beyond. One team participant said:
“ I was prepared for my experiences after high school as a result of my participation on the swim team. I traveled, made new friends and had responsible adult role models who helped me see myself through my own eyes. When I left for college, I knew I was prepared for the changes about to occur in my life.”
Building Healthy, Confident and Connected People Family togetherness and community-building is challenging these days. Our programs are designed to stimulate social interaction and ensure everyone is treated equal through services with: • Family Programming • Social Outings • Less Screen Time • Support for Seniors • Teen Leadership Opportunities More than 11,000 members belong to your Y. These members will tell you that the Y is more than a “swim and gym.” It is a place to connect socially — like a third home. One parent has been quoted as saying:
“ I don’t know how I would be able to support my family if my children were not taken care of all day at the Y. The staff is flexible, supportive and willing to work with my family’s individual needs. The Y has become our home away from home.”
The Heart of the Community As our economy struggles and disaster occurs, the Y supports everyone. Providing services and facilities, forming partnerships to further our vision, and raising funds enables the Y to provide: • An Environment Welcoming Everyone • Disaster Support and Services • Community Health Initiatives • Child Protection as Priority One • Financial Assistance When Hurricane Sandy swept New Jersey, the Somerset Valley YMCA opened its doors to everyone. Thousands were served in the weeks after the storm. The Y partnered with other local resources to distribute supplies, offer showers and supply electricity for folks to stay in contact with family members and businesses. One donor stated:
“ We knew the Y would be positioned to serve the needs of the community when the storm hit. We are proud of the work our Y has done to support our community during this disaster and we are confident our gift will be put to good use.”
