THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING OUR Y FOR YOUR SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE! MAKE 2014 THE SUMMER TO ENRICH, ENGAGE AND EXPLORE WITH US! Welcome back to our returning campers! For new campers, we look forward to making the experience enriching and fun. Our camps allow children to explore their unique talents and interests while teaching lasting values and life lessons. Children can sign up for one week or all ten weeks of camp.

LOCATIONS & HOURS Bridgewater, Hillsborough and Somerville. Camp programs are based on available facilities and the outdoor space at each location. Please tell us about your child so we can guide you to the most appropriate location and program.

ABOUT OUR CAMPS With over 60 different camps to choose from, your child will be able find the camp that’s right for them. Camps are for children in grades 1 and up. They are organized by age and designed around interests such as arts, science or sports, with age-appropriate activities. Regardless of which one you choose, all of our camps reinforce the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Camp day hours are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Pre- and postcamp care is available from 7 a.m. and/or until 6:30 p.m.

ACA ACREDITED We are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) which sets the highest standards for day camps in the nation. This important seal of approval means we comply with up to 300 health, safety and program quality standards set by the ACA (www.acacamps.org). This seal means we have gone to great lengths to provide a safe and quality environment for your child. STAFF Camp counselors receive extensive training focusing on safety, developing youth, improving healthy living for all and fostering social responsibility. Senior staff is CPR and First Aid certified. Staff ratio is1:6 for younger children and 1:8 for older.

TRIPS We recommend advance registration for our weekly trips to ensure timely communication and to reserve your child’s spot. Field trips are offered as an option at the Hillsborough and Somerville branches. Bridgewater camps are all inclusive, and all campers will join the planned trips. PRE-SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMS Both full day and half-day options are available for pre-school age children at our Child Development Centers in Hillsborough (908 369-0490) and Somerville (908 722-4567). Please contact those locations for more information. REGISTRATION Full privilege members can register online. Non-members please register in person. CAMP VIHO

Traditional Day Camp (Grades 1 – 6)

An outdoor camp that offers a variety of activities to keep campers engaged. Activities include archery, basketball, arts and crafts, teambuilding, volleyball, swimming, and environmental studies. Daily swim lessons and a weekly trip every Wednesday.

Babysitter Training (Grades 5 - 7)

American Red Cross training that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children.

Fashion and Jewelry Camp (Grades 3 - 7)

Learn to sketch designs, accessorize, design jewelry, tie-dye, and create a portfolio.

Camp VIHO offers a 13 acre park-like setting that gives campers an engaging, traditional camp experience. Campers will enjoy a variety of outdoor activities while making new friends and learning new skills. Junior Youth Leaders (Grades 7 - 8)

Campers work closely with Counselors to gain the communication and problemsolving skills needed to work with younger campers. Campers develop social skills and build confidence through an array of age-appropriate camp activities.

Junior Lifeguard (Grades 5 - 7)

Builds a foundation of knowledge and skills for future lifeguards. A precursor to the Red Cross Lifeguarding course.

Scuba Camp (Ages 10 - 15)

Volleyball (Grades 3 - 8)

Learn to bump, set, and spike in this program designed for both beginners and intermediate players.

Survival Camp (Grades 2 - 6)

Offers a wide variety of knowledge from how to make a shelter to tying knots and everything in between.

Going for the Gold Sports (Grades 2 - 6)

Earn gold medals while learning the rules and skills of various Olympic sports.

Become a PADI certified SCUBA diver! Three days will be spent at the Bridgewater YMCA and two days at Dutch Springs in Bethlehem, PA. Underwater Adventures Dive Center will help campers master scuba skills. Equipment will be provided. Participants must be comfortable swimming, floating and treading in water.

SVY TEEN TRAVEL CAMP (GRADES 7 - 10) NEW

Have an unforgettable summer at our popular Y Teen Travel Camp! Enjoy beaches, amusement parks, baseball games, rock climbing, whitewater rafting and more. Each day, campers will embark on a new adventure while developing important social skills and building confidence to try new things. We have a dedicated Teen Travel Coordinator heading up this camp, who will be attuned to the needs of teens. Busing will be provided at all three Somerset Valley YMCA locations. Seven weekly sessions are offered.

CAMP STAR

Traditional Day Camp (Grades 1 - 6)

A traditional outdoor camp that provides an array of activities to keep campers engaged. Campers will develop social skills and build long-lasting friendships as they work together on daily activities that include arts and crafts, team building activities, and traditional and non-traditional sports. Campers will also gain the courage and confidence to become life-long swimmers through their participation in daily swim lessons and recreational swim time. There is an optional camp trip each Wednesday.

Junior Youth Leaders (Grades 7 - 8)

A transitional camp where participants work closely with our Counselors and Youth Leaders to gain the communication and problem-solving skills it takes to work with younger campers. The remainder of the day will be spent developing social skills and building confidence through an array of age-appropriate traditional day camp activities.

Youth Leaders (Grades 9 - 10)

Campers will learn leadership skills and experience personal growth by working with younger campers under the direction of mentors. Training includes leadership and communication skills, problem-solving and program planning. There will be free swim time and a trip option.

Y Sports Camp (Grades 1 - 6)

A fun all-sports camp that focuses on skill development, demonstration and practice. Campers will learn fundamentals, improve skills and build confidence by participating in sportsthemed camp activities.

Summer Traditions Always Remembered is the motto for Camp STAR. Campers will explore nature, discover new talents, create lasting friendships, gain independence, and, most of all, have fun while engaging in new activities they will become passionate about. Culinary Creations Camp (Grades 3 - 7)

Learn about nutrition, recipes, and techniques in the kitchen with a healthy serving of fun.

Treasure Hunt (Grades 1 - 4)

Calling all explorers! Campers will join us for a pirate-themed week where each day will start with a new hunt for treasure.

Wonders of Wizardry (Grades 3 - 7)

Campers will participate in Harry Potterthemed activities from reading selected passages to creating alternate endings and, of course, plenty of Quidditch!

Discover Hillsborough (Grades 2 - 7)

Campers will take both bus and walking trips to discover the hidden Hillsborough and explore everything from historic buildings to a diverse array of things to do.

Magic Camp (Grades 2 - 6)

Future Harry Houdinis will learn tricks of the trade as they practice sleight of hand tricks and the art of performing as a magician.

SPORT CAMPS Soccer (JV Grades 1 - 3 & Varsity Grades 4 - 7)

Understand the fundamentals of soccer. Learn teambuilding and technical skills in a fun and non-competitive environment.

JV Baseball (Grades 2 - 4)

Through practice, drills, and scrimmages, campers will strengthen their skills and knowledge of America’s favorite pastime.

Aspiring Olympians will earn gold medals as they learn the rules and skills of various Olympic sports.

Participants will hone the skills needed to be successful on the fairway and on the green.

Perfect for kids who can’t get enough of the water. Campers enhance their swimming skills, water safety knowledge and play fun pool games.

An active approach to traditional day camp. Campers will develop selfconfidence as they participate in a variety of age-appropriate sports and activities that teach teamwork, sportsmanship and skill development. Sports Galore campers will enjoy days spent outdoors, creative camp games, and enriching experiences. Campers enjoy supervised free swim time and a trip option.

PARENT/GUARDIAN AND Y AGREEMENT RULES FOR ACCEPTANCE AND PARTICIPATION IN CAMP – are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. It is understood that all campers will be treated as individuals and respect will be shown for differences in tastes, preferences, abilities and range of behavior patterns. The Y reserves the right to dismiss a child from camp whose needs we are not able to meet, who is a danger to themselves or others, or whose conduct is not in the best interest of the camp, without refund. CURRENT MEMBERSHIP AND A $60 DEPOSIT PER WEEK ARE REQUIRED UPON REGISTRATION – Deposits are applied to the total camp bill. Registration requires a $60 non-refundable deposit per week, per child to be credited toward balance due. Refund policy: Deposits are non-transferrable. Refunds will be offered based on the following schedule: Full refund if cancellation is received by March 1 (including $60 weekly deposit and trip option fee). Refund of camp fee less $60 deposit and trip fee if cancellation is received by May 19. Refund of half the camp fee less the $60 deposit and trip fee if cancellation is received by June 9. No refund after June 9. Medical refunds will be considered in case of illness or injury lasting more than five days and will require a doctor’s verification. Anything less than that will be considered on a case by case basis. Weekly camp fees (not including pre, or post camp) will increase by $10 after June 9, and trip fees will increase by $5. CAMP POLICIES & PROCEDURES – I will review and reinforce the camper conduct and camp policies expressed in the SVY Camp Parent Handbook with my child prior to the start of camp. Campers and families not following the conduct policy may be suspended or expelled from camp with no refund. The SVY Camp Parent Handbook is available at www.ymcasomersetvalley.org I also understand that it is my responsibility to read all camp newsletters sent via email which will include the details for trips I have registered my child for separately. OTHER FEES – should they occur, include: a $25 late fee if payment is not made by the due date, a returned check fee of $25 to be paid immediately by cash or credit card, a $25 processing fee per request for any changes made after May 19, a late pick-up fee of $25 per 15 minute interval starting from your child’s scheduled pick up time. All requested changes and/or credit requests must be submitted in writing and in a timely manner. PERMISSION TO TREAT – INFORMED CONSENT – By signing this agreement, I believe that my child is qualified physically, mentally and emotionally for camp and understand there is some risk involved in all physical activities. I agree to place my child in the care of the camp staff, subject to its program policies. I give permission for him/her to take part in all camp activities, including programming, swimming, walking trips, and field trips. In the event the responsible parents/ guardians cannot be reached, I give my permission to the medical personnel selected by the camp to transport, hospitalize, secure proper treatment for, and to order injections, x-rays, routine tests, anesthesia or surgery for my child and to release any records for treatment, referral, billing and insurance purposes. MEDIA RELEASE POLICY – I give the Y permission to use any and all photographs and/or videos taken of my child in camp activities in Y publicity. The Somerset Valley YMCA values the privacy of its members. No photos or videos of any type are to be made of any camp or staff member without the consent of the Y staff. I HAVE READ ALL OF THE ABOVE INFORMATION AND I AM FULLY AWARE OF THE TERMS AND PRINCIPLES CONTAINED HEREIN. ALL QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED TO MY SATISFACTION. I AGREE THAT CERTAIN ACTIVITIES AT THE Y HAVE RISKS WHICH ARE INHERENT TO THE ACTIVITY. NO INSURANCE HAS BEEN INCLUDED IN MY MEMBERSHIP OR PROGRAM FEES. EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO GO TO CAMP Financial Assistance is available for membership, programs, child care, camp, services and facility usage. The Somerset Valley YMCA raises funds locally through its annual Support Campaign. Please see our web site or visit our Welcome Centers. MEMBERSHIP PRIVILEGES When you join the Y, you join an organization committed to strengthening the foundations of community. Membership is required for your child’s duration at camp. A Basic Camp Membership is available for $40 per camper for the summer. Full privilege members enjoy 2013 camp rates.
