Your Beginners Guide for a Successful Online Business

Introduction If you are like me you have probably spent thousands of pounds on many different “How to Make Money” guides, books, courses etc. Only to find that while there are many good products out there, providing very useful information, many if not all leave out the part about how to get started from scratch.

Be aware of the fact that they may be providing you with very good information. But always assess them, understand what they say, if you don’t it can often be very confusing and costly. Only when you understand their motives can you make an informed decision what to do, where to go and what to avoid. I am writing this report to help YOU (the potential internet “Marketer”) to avoid falling into the traps and mistakes I made when I was setting up my company. If you read this Free Resource Report and follow the plan, you can start on the road to changing your life, on both – professional and personal levels. Giving you financial freedom and the ability to work when and where you desire. I know several successful online marketers. Talking to them, observing their growth and adding my own experience, I decided to write this publication to put some order into creating the successful home based online business. From the very beginning be disciplined and build on solid foundations. That means – get your head right and set your goals, aim high but in achievable steps, don’t expect to make your 1st million in just a few weeks. Always track your progress; I will be talking more about that in my first chapter “Build the right foundations”. Nothing ever comes for free (apart from this resource report). Like any other profession the more effort you put into your work – the better fruit it will bear. I hope this report can get you moving in the right direction without the need for unnecessary mistakes. I will be delighted if I am able to help you on your way to building your very own successful home based online business.

Your Beginners Guide for a Successful Online Business

Think of your new business like you are starting a new job. You need to report to the office, you have a boss you want to impress and you want to progress up the corporate ladder. In your case however, running the business, reporting, the office and all related to it is most likely enclosed in small area of your home and will all be down to you. So to ensure success you need to be able to deal with many distractions that are specific to a home based business. Let me list some of them: •

• • •

There is no boss; there is no workforce either so if you don’t do it, it doesn’t get done. You are in your own home so you may be tempted to relax in the garden instead of focusing on your job. You may have family around, crying or laughing children may distract you. Friends and extended family may visit you more often knowing you are at home Many unrelated activities around may also distract you.

Remember, each time you are distracted it takes time to get back into work. Unfinished thoughts lead to delays and deficiencies. You are entering into this for more time to spend with your loved ones and friends but let’s get there first, let’s gain our financial freedom. The amount of money you make depends on how you laser focus your activities. It helps a lot to schedule your daily activities. The more organized you are the faster visible results come. And when they come, being organized helps in growing your business. So now you’re organised, focused and you ready let’s go to the next step....

Set Your Goals Then Make a Plan to Achieve Them. I encourage you to pick up a pen and a piece of paper and jot down the goals you want to reach. Look at each goal and evaluate it. Make any changes necessary to ensure it meets the criteria for SMART goals:

Specific Goals should be straightforward and emphasize what you want to happen. Specifics help us to focus our efforts and clearly define what we are going to do. Specific is the What, Why, and How of the SMART model. WHAT are you going to do? Use action words such as direct, organize, coordinate, lead, develop, plan, build etc. WHY is this important to do at this time? What do you want to ultimately accomplish? HOW are you going to do it? (By‌) Ensure the goals you set are very specific, clear and easy. Instead of setting a goal to lose weight or be healthier, set a specific goal to lose 2cm off your waistline or to walk 5 miles at an aerobically challenging pace.

Your Beginners Guide for a Successful Online Business

Measurable If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. In the broadest sense, the whole goal statement is a measure for the project; if the goal is accomplished, then it is a success. However, there are usually several short-term or small measurements that can be built into the goal. Choose a goal with measurable progress, so you can see the change occur. How will you see when you reach your goal? Be specific! “I want to lose 1lb a week before my birthday” shows the specific target to be measure. “I want to lose weight” is not as measurable. Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set. When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goals.

Attainable When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop attitudes, abilities, skills, and if necessary the financial capacity to reach them. You begin seeing previously overlooked opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals. Goals you set which are too far out of your reach, you probably won’t commit to doing. Although you may start with the best of intentions, the knowledge that it’s too much for you means your subconscious will keep reminding you of this fact and will stop you from even giving it your best. A goal needs to stretch you slightly so you feel you can do it and it will need a real commitment from you. For instance, if you aim to make $10,000.00 in a week immediately, we all know that isn’t achievable. But setting a goal to make $200.00 dollars a week and when you’ve achieved that, aiming to make $500.00 a week, etc. will keep it achievable for you. The feeling of success which this brings helps you to remain motivated.

Realistic This is not a synonym for “easy.” Realistic, in this case, means “do-able.” It means that the learning curve is not a vertical slope; that the skills needed to do the work are available; that the project fits with the overall strategy and goals. A realistic project may push your skills and knowledge working on it, but it shouldn’t break them. © 2010 All Rights Reserved by Merseyside Business Academy www.merseysidebusinessacademy.com

10

Your Beginners Guide for a Successful Online Business Devise a plan or a way of getting there which makes the goal realistic. The goal needs to be realistic for you and where you are at the moment. A goal of never again eating sweets, cakes, crisps and chocolate may not be realistic for someone who really enjoys these foods. For instance, it may be more realistic to set a goal of eating a piece of fruit each day instead of one sweet item. You can then choose to work towards reducing the amount of sweet products gradually as and when this feels realistic for you. Be sure to set goals that you can attain with some effort! Too difficult and you set the stage for failure, but too low sends the message that you aren’t very capable. Set the bar high enough for a satisfying achievement!

Timely Set a timeframe for the goal: for next week, in three months, 6 months. Putting an end point on your goal gives you a clear target to work towards. If you don’t set a time, the commitment is too vague. It tends not to happen because you feel you can start at any time. Without a time limit, there’s no urgency to start taking action now. Time must be measurable, attainable and realistic. Everyone will benefit from goals and objectives if they are SMART. SMART, is the instrument to apply in setting your goals and objectives.

One of the fundamental and first goals you have to have will be…

Finding a Hungry Market

Define a Hungry Market. Many people may need the product or service you provide, but only those that really want or desire your product will buy it. Discover that hungry market then provide a product or service to meet their demand. Make no mistake; there are literally thousands of potential tightly niche "hungry markets" out there. People are ready and waiting to spend their money. A quick tip! We all want things that are quicker and easier. We all want solutions to problems. Maybe you could start by helping people to save time and money. Help them avoid learning something the hard way. How? You do the research and sell the results. The more helpful the information, the higher the price you command. Here are some good places to start your market research. Firstly, find out what are the bestselling non-fiction book titles at Amazon.com This should be a good pointer to what's hot and what's not. People are paying money to buy these books, so maybe you could tap into one of these tightly niche markets. Another idea is to use the keyword suggestion tool from google.com - it’s the most popular pay-per-click search engine on the net...

Your Beginners Guide for a Successful Online Business Simply open a web browser such as internet explorer or fire fox. Search for Google Key word tool. Once you have opened that page enter a keyword relating to the ideas you have in mind. In one easy click, the search term suggestion tool will tell you how many times that keyword was searched on. It will also reveal the number of times related keywords were searched on. Why bother doing this? Because, the popularity of keywords could be a good market indicator for you. If you discover a few thousand or more combined monthly searches on keywords, it could signify intense (possibly unfulfilled) interest in a subject. If this is directly related to what you plan to sell, then you may have discovered your "hungry market." Next, using your favourite search engine, check out some of those same keywords. Visit the sites that appear to be selling related products/services, or offering related advice. Do a bit of detective work. Gather every fact, statistic, every article, every successful ad created by someone else selling to your market. Subscribe to some discussion lists relating to your chosen subject. Keep a watch to see what people are constantly asking questions about. Ask your own questions to find out their needs, wants, frustrations and desires. The key then, is to develop an 'oneness' for your market. Only then, can you satisfy the market’s most urgent, most emotive, most ardent needs, wants and desires. Only then can you create a product to be a cure for someone’s pain. Guess what? Suddenly the question of product becomes easy when you start with the needs, wants, desires and frustrations of a "hungry market." So – by now you have your product and potential customers to address? So – it’s time for a next step…

Create a Website (Squeeze/Landing page) "Squeeze Page(s)" are a single web page with the sole purpose of capturing information for follow-up marketing; that means NO exit hyperlinks. Quality squeeze pages use success stories that the prospect would relate to when making a buying decision. They also use things like colour psychology, catchy sales copy and keyword rich text placed with SEO (search engine optimization) in mind. Some advanced marketers even use audio and video on their squeeze page. Internet marketers borrow copywriting techniques from offline direct response marketing. This includes the use of a headline, bullets, teaser copy, deadlines, testimonials, scarcity, and the like. Aggressive marketers will present visitors with multiple incentives in exchange for their contact information. As a general rule, Internet Marketers try to keep the content on their Squeeze Pages to a minimum. The goal of the page is to obtain the visitor's email address; additional information could distract the user or cause them to "Click-Away" to a different website. Navigation and hyperlinks are almost always absent from typical squeeze pages. The absence of links is used to focus visitors' attention on one choice: register for the email list or leave the site. Savvy internet marketers have discovered that convincing a visitor to sign up for an email list provides an opportunity to present that visitor with multiple sales messages over time, develop a relationship, and even cross-sell other related products. Squeeze Pages are often used in conjunction with an email auto responder to begin delivering information as soon as the visitor confirms their email address. The auto responder may be utilized to send a series of follow-up emails or to provide an immediate download link to get information. Promising information upon completion of confirming their email address has proven to be an effective method of increasing opt-ins using Squeeze Pages. New technology has also led to adding voice or video to Squeeze Pages in an effort to capture the visitor's attention. Below you will see a couple of Squeeze Pages, the more professional they look the more likely you are to capture the information you desire, first name and email address.

Keywords Research & Selection.

Keyword Optimization: The Key to Search Engine Marketing It would not be a very wise decision to rush into search engine marketing without having a set of relevant keywords ready beforehand. Search engines are all about keywords. The web surfer types in their search in the form of keywords and the search engines show results analyzing the relevance of those keywords in the web world. A website that wishes to rank itself in the search engine result pages must have their most related keywords ready before they begin their Search Engine marketing program. These set of keywords are usually segregated into the primary, secondary and other related key words or phrases which best match the core content of the websites. Many web masters also tend to optimize their website with, keywords based on their products, services or content. The selection of a wrong or unrelated set of keywords will hamper the traffic flow of your website and will inversely affect the conversion rate of the site. It is also important to choose high demand keywords as your relevant keywords. High demand keywords on the search engines are those keywords that are most commonly searched by the surfers. Selecting less popular keywords again will not be effective in attracting influx to your websites. Another essential thing to remember before making your selection of keywords is to first decide, what is it that you are expecting to obtain from this marketing campaign. Do you wish to increase your sale or lead, or do you wish more and more people to come and visit your website. Keyword selection for all these purposes varies slightly in nature. The target audience of a website also takes active participation in deciding the keyword selection of your site. If you are targeting the youth the key words or phrases shall be more trendy and stylish and latest amongst them, similarly it varies from place to place and country to country too. Implying these simple logistics will enhance your search engine marketing strategy showing effective results in no time. Your Beginners Guide for a Successful Online Business Considering all these points it becomes extremely necessary that all websites that are planning to venture into the keywords optimization fundamental of the search engines, must do a thorough keyword analysis. Based on your keyword analysis reports you can now decide upon your paid search keyword and organic search keywords. Although many individuals will base their assessment of key phrase value based only on popularity figures, there are really three vitally important aspects of each phrase to consider:

Popularity By far the easiest of the three to judge is popularity, since it is not subjective. Software like Word Tracker gives popularity figures of search phrases based upon actual search engine activity (it also gives additional key phrase suggestions and variations). Such tools allow you to assign a concrete popularity number to each phrase to use when comparing them. Obviously, the higher the number, the more traffic that can be expected (assuming you are able to obtain good search engine positions). However, this number alone is not good enough reason to pursue any particular key phrase, although key phrase analysis too often stops here.

Specificity This is more abstract than the sheer popularity number, but equally important. For example, let’s assume that you were able to obtain great rankings for the key phrase "insurance companies". Let’s also assume that you only deal with auto insurance. Although "insurance companies" might have a much higher popularity figure than "auto insurance companies", the first key phrase would also be comprised of people looking for life insurance, health insurance, and home insurance. It is very likely that someone searching for a particular type of insurance will refine their search after seeing the disparate results returned from the phrase "insurance companies". In the second, longer key phrase, you can be reasonably sure that a much higher percentage of visitors will be looking for what you offer- and the addition of the word "auto" will make it much easier to attain higher rankings, since the longer term will be less competitive. This can be drilled down even further by using the phrase “auto insurance for women” this again reduces your phrases by eliminating all the male drivers from the search results, but you can have an exact match, these exact match phrases generally have a higher click through and conversion rate. © 2010 All Rights Reserved by Merseyside Business Academy www.merseysidebusinessacademy.com

Motivation of User This factor, even more abstract than specificity, calls for an attempt to understand the motivation of a search engine user by simply analysing his or her search phrase. Key phrase compilation, evaluation, and performance are all vitally important to any search engine marketing campaign. While high rankings in search engines are an admirable goal, high rankings for poor key phrases will consistently deliver poor results. Integration of this key phrase process into your overall search engine marketing strategy can dramatically improve your website performance (and thus your bottom line). All these hints will help you with‌.

Traffic, Traffic & More Traffic

We are living in information world. Each website populates an enormous amount of information. Important thing is to divert as much internet traffic as possible to your website. Traffic means visitors, in turn visitors mean potential customers. The quickest way to gain traffic/visitors is via an ad words campaign. In this you search for keywords or phrases as described earlier. You then place an add with Google or Bing and agree to pay an amount for every time someone clicks on your advert. This cpc (cost per click) can become expensive if not carefully monitored but you can set a daily budget. Another little known source for traffic is Ebay, this is a place where people sell and look for all manner of products and you can drive traffic to your offer from here. A more long term strategy is through Search Engine Optimisation To get traffic from any search engine, your website needs to be present in search results. And because most relevant results are displayed first and because most people click on the top results you need to get your page listed on top positions of search results. The process to achieve this goal is called search engine optimization (SEO). Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a web site or a web page in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Other forms of search engine marketing (SEM) target paid listings. In general, the earlier (or higher on the page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local

Your Beginners Guide for a Successful Online Business search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence. As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of back links, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic. The acronym "SEO" can refer to "search engine optimizers," a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term "search engine friendly" may be used to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems, images, videos, shopping carts, and other elements that have been optimized for the purpose of search engine exposure. So now, you have the contents, you have traffic - you can then finally‌

So you have the product, and you have a website that attracts potential customer. Use it to the full! Build the database of the customers and build a relationship with them. The best way to build these relationships with potential online customers is by email. There are systems called Auto responders. This means you do not need to sit in front of your PC writing emails endlessly. You put the information in once and Auto responder does the majority of your work. One of the leading Auto responders is Aweber and you can trial it for $1.00 here. https://www.aweber.com/landing.htm Autoresponders are often used as e-mail marketing tools, to immediately provide information to their prospective customers and then follow-up with them at preset time intervals. Autoresponders are also incorporated into electronic mailing list software, to confirm subscriptions, unsubscriptions, posts, and other list activities. All information you send to your customer needs to be carefully prepared. The way it looks, its contents attracts your customers and creates your good reputation. Spend fair amount of time on preparation before you hit “send”!
