COGNITION

Cognition. New York City is experiencing major changes, the most significant of which is the Hudson

Yards Project. Hudson Yards is the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States and the largest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center. “Cognition” is located at the beginning of New York’s High line, just north of Hudson Yards.

The

purpose of this project is to provide a community space for the new residents of Hudson Yards as well as the High line travelers. The project stems from the library is now, and what the library will be in the near future. I used the existing library as the support for the new library. The new library program stretches over the high-line and includes spaces like think tanks, classrooms, lounges, galleries, and research labs.

The

high-line is used to split the programmatic elements. The side of the building facing Hudson Yards is the newer program where north facing side is the old program

Bridges, that stretch over the high-line,

connect both halves of the building. Book stacks make up the walls of the bridges. Each bridge then lands at a gallery space. A transitional piece between what is the old library and the new

RELIANCE

Like the human heart, there are two halves to this merger, Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University. Both schools benefit equally without one having more importance than the other. Each half of the heart, or school is represented by an element of the design. TJU is represented by the glass wall and Philau the woven net. Neither would bea bale to stand without the other.

CABIN COMPETITION

Using an existing cabin design I created a digital model in 3ds max and created renderings that I believed highlighted the best features of the building as well as the design intent.

EXPOSITION

There are currently 3,600 murals across Philadelphia. Expoosition is a celebration of these murals and their history. This project is an installation that highlights the more famous and historic murals found throughout the city. Along with an exhibit for existing murals it becomes an art installation for local artist to come and share there own work.

ALLIANCE

Alliance is an arts center located in Philadelphia. The center has a daytime program concerning students and kids with learning disabilities, and a night program for adults relax and socialize. The concept of the design was to highlight the relationship between the two programs. The interior has bridges connecting each gallery and studio to each other creating overlooks into studios and exhibit spaces to showcase art.

OASIS

Oasis is a nature and visitor center located in Blue Bell Park. Throughout the semester the design class worked on making a master plan for a paved path that stetched around the entire park. This center connects to the path in two locations and serves as an oasis in the woods that seperates the visitor from the rest of the park.
