ZippyCakes and SnotMuffin takes the comic book element of superhero vs. villain and turns it on its head. While a traditional good against evil theme prevails throughout, the truly unique element of the series comes in the form of its nontraditional characters. Take the character Snotmuffin, whose superhero power is to belch different tiny cupcake helpers that assist him in every adventure. While Snotmuffin’s skills come easy to him, his friend Zippycakes struggles to find his own physical prowess. For their adversaries, power comes all too easy, setting up the heroes for different life challenges such as dealing with bullies and eventually tyrants. This series is geared towards a general audience, and captures the imagination of young children with as much ease as it awakens the inner-child of adults. The art is a refreshing burst of boldness in a genre that is so often overtly dark.
