Below is a transcription of this video Hey, this is Justin. I was reading the Seth Godin post on swagger. I’m talking about inside the marketing context. Swagger is that confidence, confidence that knowing that you have the right product, that you have the right solution, it’s necessary. It’s necessary for people to listen to you, that you have confidence because people want to hear confidence especially if you were the owner of the product, you’re the creator of the product. It’s important to have that aspect.
Now the problem is at some point in time, somebody else is going to have swagger and they’re going to be your competitor, that’s just the nature of any market but today with the quick sharing of information, that person is going to be in your face very quickly. It’s not like it used to be whereas if you were the plumber in your town, there might be a handful of plumbers that are competitors but now, every plumber in the world theoretically can be a competitor of yours through lighting up, [inaudible] might be the best example. More and more people can be a competitor of yours. What is the solution really? It’s important to act boldly and act with confidence. If you don’t do so, your progress is going to be slowed down, nobody is going to take you seriously, nobody is going to be interested in your product so you do have to develop that swagger. However, it’s much more important you can back up all your claims because you will be found out. The good news is that resources are more available now than ever to be able to back up your claims. Just make it your purpose to be amazing and this isn’t necessarily how it goes. This is my interpretation of what he said. When you’re amazing, it is your job to tell the world, however, wherever you are, tell the truth.
Itâ€™s really just a constant evolution and process of your developing your confidence, developing more truth and back up the confidence so you can have greater confidence. Wind the wheel that way, heading in that direction, create the momentum going in that direction and youâ€™re probably going to be able to outperform and outshine your competition.
