The Wood Library

7 Weeks, May, 2014 Academic work Individual work Course: Principles of Interior Design Instructor: Vice Prof.Yinghua Bao Site: Beijing, China

The existing architecture library is really small only for students` reading and study. The corridor separate the library and the unused space which makes the whole library becomes inefficient. The new library tries to active this part by extending the original one. By removing the floor slabs, the library, unused space and basement will become one complete part. The ceiling is formed by square lattices to make the ceiling orderliness. And to change the separate space become integrity, the outside surface and the inside bookshelf also use the same element- square lattices.

Translation- Volume Model

This project is a kind of translation. The main concept is coming from the speech given by a local person. It is a kind of new way to understand the local culture and create a building under that culture. The translation is beginning from the article, and from a Key-Drawing to abstract and re-organize them in a 24*24 drawing. The later model is coming from the Key-Drawing. And then, insert the units into the model and adjust the whole project to suit the daily life and the site.

The project take some typical facades as the basic of the balcony of the Catalonia and use the glass boxes to represent the balcony of Catalonia. The culture and the life start inside the house, come out through the balcony and then come together at the public space to become a special part of Barcelona.
