Welcome to the Jurassic Coast International AV Salon. This event has taken the place of the previous “Bridgend 5-8 Photo Harmony Competition”, which was successfully run by Bridgend Camera Club from 2008 to 2020. Exmouth Photo Group has taken over the running of the event from 2021. Why Jurassic Coast? Exmouth is at the western end of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, which runs for ninetyfive miles to Old Harry Rocks in Dorset. Our logo shows the Geo-needle, which marks its start. Exmouth Photo Group have expanded the competition into two sections namely Photo Harmony and Open. Special Awards Best Photography PAGB Gold Medal Best Sound PAGB Gold Medal Best Newcomer PAGB Gold Medal Certificates for all PSSA Acceptances Rising Star Award for the best Newcomer, defined as someone who has never won an award in a National or International AV Competition, and does not hold an AV distinction from the RPS, PAGB, PSSA, IPF or APS. We have three International Audio Visual Jury Members who have an excellent knowledge of this medium and are ideally suited and qualified to carry out the task before them.
Joan Ryder Rathband FRPS FPSSA AFIAP DPAGB Joan, born in South Africa, loves Wildlife, Nature and Creative photography and also enjoys doing Audio-Visuals. Favourite South African photographic spots include the Kruger National Park and Kgalagadi (Kalahari) National Park, as well as Cape Town and the West Coast of South Africa. Always in search of the elusive “mood” lighting, she also loves the beautiful landscapes and soft lighting in the UK as well as the fauna and flora of both countries. Married to Clive Rathband, they both enjoy photographing together and the friendly rivalry that ensues. Joan, a keen photographer since 1974, has gained many photographic awards, including a Gold Medal at the Royal Photographic Society International Exhibition. She is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society; a Fellow of the Photographic Society of South Africa and has also been awarded an AFIAP and the DPAGB.
She has lectured extensively and has also judged at many National and International Salons for both still images and Audio Visuals - in South Africa and the UK. Joan was also a member of the Distinctions Panel in South Africa and is currently a member of the Royal Photographic Society Distinction Panel for Natural History and Travel. Always willing to share her knowledge, she has, more recently, been holding workshops and giving one-on-one Photoshop tuition for photographers who wish to apply for distinctions and other honours.
Clive A Rathband FRPS FPSSA EFIAP DPAGB Clive was born in England but has strong links to South Africa where he met his wife, Joan. He has been a keen and active photographer since 1972 and started producing Audio-Visuals around 1973 He is inspired by the landscape and the flora and fauna of the UK, especially in his native Wiltshire, but is also equally at home in the dry desert landscapes of Southern Africa. He enjoys taking photographs in the National Parks of Southern Africa and has travelled to many other countries in search of photographic subjects. Clive became an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS) for Audio-Visual work in 1979 and in 1991 became a Fellow for a panel of Natural History slides. He is also a Fellow of the Photographic Society of South Africa (FPSSA) for AudioVisual and was awarded the EFIAP in 1992. More recently he was awarded the DPAGB. He has been a winner of many awards across the world, including the Royal Photographic Society Gold Medal for the Best Nature Photograph in the 2005 RPS International Exhibition.
Clive has been invited to judge many National and International Exhibitions in the UK and South Africa and to judge in his local area. Together with Joan he gives talks to Clubs and Societies across the United Kingdom and in South Africa
Adri van Oudheusden AV-AFIAP, avFPSSA, AV-EPSSA, APSSA (Vers.) Adri’s passion for photography really began with cinè in 1968. In later years she started exploring printmaking, then slides, and after Freeman Patterson’s first visit to South Africa, got hooked on Audio-Visual. She has been very successful in National and International AV Competitions and Salons. Adri has lectured and presented workshops at several Congresses. She was the Chairperson of the PSSA AV Division for six years, as well as the FIAP Observer in South Africa. Adri is the second South African to achieve AV-AFIAP and also the first PSSA member to achieve an AV-EPSSA. She enjoys thinking “out-of-the-box” and loves exploring new ideas. Adri employs many methods to develop and transform her AVs into works that communicate her inner experiences, visions and sometimes outrageous ideas.
This festival would not have gone ahead without the support of the Organising Committee of Exmouth Photo Group and those entering the Salon. It is thanks to this team, led by Ian Bateman FRPS MPAGB AVAFIAP APAGB; Derrick Holliday ARPS; Jenny Baker ARPS CPAGB; Maurice Chittock; Christine Chittock CPAGB; Peter Hyett ARPS; Mark Hazell; John Perriam ARPS DPAGB AFIAP; Mo Martin ARPS CPAGB and Sheila Haycox ARPS MPAGB EFIAP. They have worked tirelessly for this inaugural International Salon and are pleased to have received entries from 71 entrants amounting to 116 entries in total from 9 countries. (75 Open and 41 Photo Harmony) It is also thanks to the three International Judges who have given up their valuable time to go through all the entries and make their judgements. The Organising Committee thanks The PAGB for Gold Medals and Ribbons plus The PSSA for Gold Medals, for their much appreciated contributions.
