Read the final Capstone Project instructions in the “Components of Course Evaluation” section of this guide or in the Week Five section of your online course. Each week’s assignment will be a major component of the Capstone Project. Chapters 1 through 3 will guide you in the process of outlining your topic. Identify and describe a key issue that affects a specific population. a. Who is affected by this issue? b. How are they affected by this issue? Evaluate the population that is affected by the issue. a. Which social stratifications contribute to the issue? b. What are the socioeconomic and cultural factors that exist within this population segment that relate to the issue? c. What are the environmental forces that influence this population? Determine challenges to resolving this issue. a. Which political factors represent challenges to resolving the issue? b. Which psychological factors represent challenges to resolving the issue? c. Which historical factors represent challenges to resolving the issue? Apply concepts and theories covered in previous courses to inform and support your explanation. This assignment guides the trajectory of your

Capstone Project. Feedback you receive on this assignment will guide the research you will complete in Week Two. The paper must be three to four pages in length (exclusive of title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. This assignment does not require the use of outside sources. However, all sources must be cited according to APA standards. SOC 490 Week 1 DQ 1 Personal and Professional Relevance (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com SOC 490 Week 1 DQ 1 Personal and Professional Relevance Personal and Professional Relevance. Your research proposal for your Capstone Project should be written on a topic in which you feel an investment and that also is relevant to fields within the social sciences. What relevance does this issue have in your own life? Does it relate to your interests, and if so, how does it relate? What is your connection to the population you are researching? If the issue does not have relevance to you or you do not have a connection with the population, explain why not. What is the goal of your research? Are you using your research for the good of this population or solely for the enhancement of knowledge

in general? Which is more important and why? Are they both equally important? -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 1 DQ 2 Methodology for Selecting a Sample Population (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com Methodology for Selecting a Sample Population. Your Capstone Project will focus on a specific sample population for future research. In this discussion, you will need to do two things. First, explain the attributes of the sample population that you plan to study. Then explain the research methodology you will use to study that population. Will you use a quantitative approach, qualitative approach, or a mixture of both? Which approach do you find most valuable and why? -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 2 Annotated Bibliography (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com SOC 490 Week 2 Annotated Bibliography

Annotated Bibliography. The purpose of the annotated bibliography is to assist you in developing research analysis skills including critical thinking, writing, and literature research skills. Using the feedback that you received from the assignments and the ideas that emerged in discussions from Week One, focus your research on the specific population you selected and the issue that you connected to this population. The annotated bibliography should include a paragraph for each source that contains the following information: a. Name of the article, including the complete bibliographic citation, using APA format. b. Summary/abstract of the article – annotation (sometimes it is helpful to ask yourself the following questions in synthesizing the information): § Who? (author) § What was done? (e.g., an experimental study investigating the interaction of short term memory and attention) § How? (was it done) c. What were the findings? (identify the major ones) d. Contributions? (new findings, applications, etc.) Review the complete instructions for the Capstone Project in Week Five. To conduct accurate research for the annotated bibliography, consider the following: a. Research in peer-reviewed journals or other journals that are considered to have reliable information (do not use sources from the secular press (e.g., Time, Newsweek, or Wikipedia). Review the guidelines for acceptable sources by reading the “Academic Research”

section within the Student Responsibilities and Policies tab under Course Home on the left navigation toolbar in your online course. b. Identify at least ten (10) academic sources, six (6) of which should come from the Online Library. ยง IMPORTANT NOTE:Remember that your Capstone Project includes setting up a potential statistical research analysis of the population in question. With this in mind, at least four (4) of the ten articles that you outline should include some form of statistical analysis and testing of hypotheses based on those statistical findings. This will aid you in the way that you set up your model research in your Capstone Project as well as provide you with examples of how to utilize these statistical methods. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page. For information regarding APA samples and tutorials, visit the Writing Center, within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar, in your online course. -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 2 DQ 1 Social Theories (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com SOC 490 Week 2 DQ 1 Social Theories Social Theories. There are three primary social theories (functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism) which are used to evaluate

social problems. In this discussion board, you are to evaluate the chosen issue/problem that you identified for your Capstone Project from these perspectives. Describe how a functionalist, a conflict theorist, and someone ascribing to symbolic interactionism would explain the key issue and the factors that have led to this issue. Remember that you can draw on what you have learned from your previous courses as well as acceptable academic sources to refresh your memory on these theories and then apply them to your selected issue -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 2 DQ 2 Annotated Bibliography Best Practices (Ash)

As you approach the end of your academic journey, think back to all the research that you have put into this accomplishment. You have been writing and honing your communication skills throughout your academic tenure. This week your assignment is to create an annotated bibliography. In this discussion board, please present the five most important things you have learned about research in your field of study over your time at Ashford. These factors could include study tips, time saving techniques, ideas about the

best attitudes for research, methods for reviewing articles and resources, tips for formatting, ways to structure your physical learning environment and temporal learning periods, or any other categories that you find important. Explain how you learned those methods and techniques and how you have honed your ability to do research as you progressed through the social science major. -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 3 DQ 1 Psychological Perspectives on Social Issues (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com SOC 490 Week 3 DQ 1 Psychological Perspectives on Social Issues Psychological Perspectives on Social Issues. A large portion of the social science major is dedicated to the study of individual, group, and social psychology. Social psychology examines how the thoughts and behaviors of individual humans are influenced by the thoughts and behaviors of other humans in the various social groups in which they find themselves. Individual psychological theories focus more on individuals and the thoughts and behaviors that they manifest as relatively autonomous individuals. There are numerous theories that orient researchers in both of these fields. In this discussion, please explain a specific subfield of social psychology as well as individual psychology. Then, using the social psychological theory, explain your research population’s ideas, behaviors, and beliefs in relation to the key issue that faces this group. After doing this, then focus on a specific

subcategory of individual psychology and explain a single individual of this population’s ideas, behaviors, and beliefs in relation to the key issue that faces this group. -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 3 DQ 2 Psychological Reflections on Online Academic Dynamics (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com SOC 490 Week 3 DQ 2 Psychological Reflections on Online Academic Dynamics Psychological Reflections on Online Academic Dynamics. Having studied group and individual psychological theories, as a follow up to this week’s first discussion, analyze your online academic experience from one of the perspectives found in social psychology. What group behaviors, beliefs, and interactions influenced your own psychological states and behaviors in the classroom when you began in online education? How did you initially respond to those behaviors? Has your response changed over time? If so, how have you changed? If not, how have you maintained consistency? After analyzing your own psychological and behavioral response to others, please also answer the following two questions.

a. What is your least favorite social or individual behavior or perspective that you see your fellow students display in the online classroom and why is it your least favorite? b. What is the best form of social or individual behavior or psychological perspective that you see your fellow students display in the online classroom and why is it the best? -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 3 Proposal for Statistical Research Project (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com SOC 490 Week 3 Proposal for Statistical Research Project Proposal for Statistical Research Project. Having identified a population, an issue/problem that relates to that specific population, and then gathered academic resources that relate to the issue, you will now be asked to propose a statistical research project that directly relates to the social issue you identified for your selected population. Pay special attention to Chapter 7 of the text as well, as it has excellent information on variables that one can adequately test and general designs for experimentation involving statistical analysis. a. Plan a research study, describing in detail what you want to measure and why.

b. Determine a realistic timeline for the completion of your project. c. Describe the individuals who would be involved in your study. d. Explain how many people would be needed to conduct the research project from a staffing perspective. e. Determine which statistical analysis method (e.g., statistical tests/measurements) would be most appropriate for your application, and elucidate why you chose this method. f. Determine how many subjects you would require for your study and explain how you arrived at that number. g. Evaluate the importance of your proposed research study, and describe how the resulting data could best be used and which organizations or agencies will benefit best from it. -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 4 DQ 1 Ramifications of a Solution (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com SOC 490 Week 4 DQ 1 Ramifications of a Solution Ramifications of a Solution. If the key issue that you are researching were solved, what would be the historical, psychological, ethical, and social ramifications of this solution? How would the course of history change if this issue were resolved? How would the group psychology of

the population you are studying change or how would it need to change in order to solve the problem? How would the ethical relationships within this group or surrounding this group change if this key issue were resolved? And finally, what would be the ramifications in society at large if there was a resolution to this key issue/problem? Would these be positive or negative? Both? -------------------------------------------------

SOC 490 Week 4 DQ 2 Ethical Research in the Social Sciences (Ash)

For more course tutorials visit www.soc490.com SOC 490 Week 4 DQ 2 Ethical Research in the Social Sciences Ethical Research in the Social Sciences. Find the most interesting, bizarre, or blatant example of a violation of good ethical conduct in research in the social sciences. Explain the experiment. What theories, ideas, behaviors, or phenomena were being analyzed? What were the attributes of the population that the researchers chose to use for their experiments? What did they do to the population over the course of the experiments? After you have explained the experiment and its procedure, then provide an argument that displays why this research methodology was unethical. Remember to support your arguments with factual evidence and logical reasoning. Note: Do not overlap cases with other students. Each case presented should be unique. You cannot receive full credit for a post that overlaps

with another student if that student posted before you. If someone posts your desired example before you do, please find another case. -------------------------------------------------
