From the President Just like that, another successful League year comes to an end! As I look back on this past year, I am in awe of all that we have accomplished in such a short period of time. None of this would have been possible without the support and teamwork of all of our members. I have been continuously inspired by watching you collaborate and dedicate your precious time to our mission. I owe my confidence to our board of directors and I am blessed to have served together with you. I thank you for being my fellow volunteers and for giving so much of your time and energy to our projects and events and for the many friendships that I know will last a lifetime. The old saying that it takes a village to raise a child rings true in our organization as well; it takes a village to run the Junior League. Without the tireless hours and efforts of the women who embody the Junior League — the Actives, Sustainers, Provisionals, and all of the support of our family and friends — this organization would not be what it is today. Thank you for joining the League, for going the extra mile, giving 110%, and for saying yes when called upon to dedicate your time to our wonderful cause. Galveston County is a better place because of you. As your President, it has been immensely satisfying to witness the work of trained women volunteers improving our community’s needs one step at a time. As the leadership of this organization passes to Angie and the incoming board, I urge you all to continue on with the wonderful spirit of service that has made you so amazing this year. Best wishes for a fun and meaningful new League year.

Jocelyn Sullivan 2013-2014 President

Patient Perks Dance Party Junior League's first "Dance Party" was held May 4th at Shriner's hospital. It was a huge success due to the big smiles and great energy from all the volunteers. Shriner's has already asked if we can come back and do another Paint the Town Neon Dance Party for them.

Cookbook Announcements What fun we had with the Cookbook this year! A lot of new decisions were made and we consider it a very successful year overall. The Beer Bottle Bread was a huge hit and a great way to highlight one of our own recipes. It was exciting that it sold out in such a very short time. The new Dinner Events idea was a smashing success, too, with 2 oversold events and requests for a wait list. These events will continue into the new League year, so if you want to host an event and get your cookbook points knocked out in one swoop, this is a great way to do it. It can also be a cost effective one, too, since you won't have to buy any books. We'll be adding more options to the list this coming year and are hoping to book an event every month. Please contact Janet Hoffman if you have an interest in hosting as the calendar is already filling up. The decision was made to sunset the current cookbook, so no new print orders will be made. We have less than 1,800 books now, so it should not take too long to sell this inventory and have Cookbook move into its new role of fundraising, whatever that may look like.

Cookbook Opportunity to Earn Points for Next Year Girls, do we have an opportunity for you! Earn your required cookbook points for the 2014-2015 year now. We are looking for people to host events. The Cookbook Committee will once again provide an opportunity for you to host a Dinner Event, while we will invite the community to join us as our fundraiser. If your event is chosen, you will receive 10 cookbook points to be divided however you choose amongst you and your co-hosts. So you can host alone for 10 points or team up with some friends and split the points. You will be responsible for providing everything for the event, including the theme, date, time, venue, and full menu. The cookbook committee will create an invitation to be distributed in the community to ensure a sold out event. All proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Junior League of Galveston County. Please contact Janet Hoffman at 409-621-6332 or jhoffman@ibisengineers.com by May 30th. We would like to have one event per month and to begin sending the invitation for all the events before Back to the League. If you have a venue but don’t want to cook or vice versa please let me know. I have had requests and I do not mind playing match maker for everyone’s benefit.

Provisional Class Projects Resolve It, Inc. Thank you JLGC for all of your wonderful donations for the Resolve It, Inc. Goody Bags. Please bring any last minute donations to Annual Dinner. Our committee is putting the bags together later this month and will be delivering them to the children on the last day of school and we are POSSIBLY looking at more than 50 bags to donate! Our Provisional Project could not have happened without the help of all of you and your generosity, so THANK YOU!

Pampers, Push-Ups and Pajamas The Pampers, Push-ups, and Pajamas project has been a great success! As of late April, we’ve collected over 5,000 diapers to benefit the Galveston Sustainable Communities Alliance and the Incredible Years program with GISD. The response for undergarments and pajamas has been equally successful, and the Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston County will be collecting these donations at the end of this month. We are excited to release final numbers after our final collection at Annual Dinner, where we will be accepting any remaining undergarments, pajamas, diapers and wipes. The Provisional class thanks all JLGC members for the generous donations that have been wonderfully beneficial to our project and will greatly benefit the Galveston County community!
