October 1, 2014 Dear Hopkinton Community: It is my pleasure to be writing this letter as the town enters its 300th year. The School Committee recently approved a new Strategic Plan (2014-2020) that will be used as a guide to provide direction and a focus to the goals that we set for ourselves within a culture of continuous improvement. The Strategic Plan challenges us to look at our work with a critical eye and a growth mindset, asking ourselves where we can improve and what we can be doing differently to continue to provide an exemplary education. At this time, we have an enrollment of 3460 students with an average of 260 students per grade level. As a district we continue to attract educators with a wide range of experience and expertise. This past year we welcomed 35 new educators to the district. The district also benefits from a talented and dedicated administrative team who work collaboratively to achieve common goals. Perhaps the greatest change in education in recent years is the use of technology as a tool to enrich our student’s educational experiences. It is the responsibility of the schools to engage students and teach them in the way they learn best and prepare them for the jobs of the future. Hopkinton Public School’s Technology Plan includes updating all of its technology over the next few years. At Hopkinton High School, students can either bring in their own laptops or participate in a lease to own program. The 1:1 program has been phased in gradually at the high school, with this being the first year all grades will have devices. Also this year, the district is rolling out a district-funded Chromebook pilot program for eighth-graders in the math and science classrooms. Over the next few years, we will continue to add devices to all other grades. &$%'"&$%( " "
