Industry Research and Other Companies Researching health and wellness has lead to the discovery of several things about the industry. The initial research involved looking into the different services that Health and Harmony offers, what competition surrounded the company, and what type of history went into holistic and alternative medical treatments. This research was to done in order to create a visual identity for the growth and rebranding of Health and Harmony. Other alternative medicine practices use the idea of creating a balanced lifestyle. They tend to have more than one practitioner and expert within their studio that can tend to a number of things dealing from pain to self image.

Physical therapy tends to be a smaller aspect of some studios where it is larger in other studios. A few studios say they tend to personal desires of their patients well being, yet a large number of people see these alternative medicine and wellness practices to be a hoax or having an uncertain and risky effects. These connotations are created from the visual presence that some of the companies have, and the way that these companies talk about the services they offer. Some of these other businesses found within the health and wellness industry tend to use the same name as Health and Harmony, or other variations that include the words health

and harmony in their name. These businesses portray the industry in an unprofessional manner that Health and Harmony does not have and needs to overcome. Currently Health and Harmony holds no online social media presence, marketing strategy, or strong visual presence to overcome the obstacles of the other businesses.

7–8 Logos from other companies in the health and wellness industry. These logos are from other companies that offer some of the same and similar services that Health and Harmony offers. Each one contains health or harmony within the name, a factor which makes it difficult for this Health and Harmony to be found.

Mood Boards & Inspiration After researching many different types of wellness programs, physical therapy practices, and having the interview at Health and Harmony there was an overall need to portray calmness, serenity, and hope. The design system was inspired by energy and hope which started with the mood boards. Shakras, nature, healing and energy f low from our mood boards helped with generating ideas for our logotypes and identity system.

The mood boards helped as guidance to move into a finalized understanding of what the company should represent and helped to inspire ideas for both creating the identity and choosing a color palette.

Research | Health and Harmony Identity System Proposal | 6

9-14 Moodboards In depth visual research was performed to gain a sense of what visual attributions may become part of the company. Some of these atrributions were color, nature, feeling, form, and shape

The vibrant blue communicates a sense of life and hope. 10, 12 Natural Elements and Color The idea of using forms and color from nature brings in the ideas of balance, energy, and hope.

14

11, 13 The Ripple Effect Studying visual and historical elements such as the Shakras and Zen gardens gave inspiration in many different ways. One of which is understanding the different levels of energy that people have within themselves.

14 Movement & Freedom The idea of movement, hope, and freedom shows the result of Health and Harmony, and what the company hopes to bring to its patients. This image portrays a sense of hope, movement, and freedom.

Health and Harmony Needs In order for Health and Harmony to progress, the company will need to expand on its current clientele base, develop a strong marketing plan, build a cohesive brand identity, and establish both a presence in the market place. Successfully completing these steps will allow for Health and Harmony to be distinguished from its competition. Visibility issues include sign age, way finding, internet search presence, social media presence, and patient doctor referrals. Health and Harmony needs to have a standardized system of designs including a new brand identity that will not only portray the company in the services that it offers, but make the company more recognizable than what is currently in the market. Final Logo Mark The final mark was created from marrying the five general services of Health and Harmony together. These services are seen as Physical Therapy, Muscle Activation Techniques, Stress Reduction, Personal Training, and Energy Works. Each one of these services are used to create a sense of wholeness. The mark is illustrated simply as a unified central force that draws and channels energy from itself. The mark portrays elements from the shakras, and other inspirational searches, as well as the idea that there are several factors that affect the health and well being of a person. Trying to incorporate the heart into the mark became an inspiration. The heart to the owner

of Health and Harmony, Lori Schlotzhauer, represents herself and her beliefs that people either approach the world with and open or closed heart. This use of the heart in this case is meant to represent the idea of universal love throughout the world. That is why the mark becomes circular in combining the layers and the hearts. Even though the mark portrays a strong concept, it is more important that the mark itself becomes a representation for the company rather than an illustration for the company. The mark was created to be simple, clean, elegant, and sophisticated so it would become easily recognizable to people.

21

Research | Health and Harmony Identity System Proposal | 2

A Unique and Custom Typesetting The typography chosen for the final mark is a modified version of Stag Sans. This typeface itself has very strong characteristics that are represented in the final mark. The modifications to the final typesetting were done to help mimic the roundness of the logo itself, as well as create unqiueness within the type. A wellness studio has been added as a tag line to the logo to distinguish the business from other companies. The final color palette uses a sense of vibrancy which is meant to inspire hope and bring harmony to the company. The logo portrays Health and Harmony by looking professional, elegant, and sophisticated, but still portraying the hope and friendliness that the company wishes to inspire and portray itself as.

22

21 Final Mark Design The final mark was derived from using the ideas of the layers of different health that people contain within themselves, Lori’s belief that people approach the world with and open or closed hear, and the idea of a unified central force that draws energy upon itself.

22 Final Logo Design The final logo mark uses a modified version of the Stag Sans typeface. This typeface was modified to fit the conceptual qualities and roundness of the mark, as well as make the logo completely unique from anything that is in the market.

23 Original Typesetting This shows the original Stag Sans typeface with Health and Harmony typed out before any modifications.

Color Selection The color palette for Health and Harmony was chosen after researching color meaning, pulling inspiration from the mood boards, and paying close attention the word list a that were create as part of the logo development. The final decided color palette is vibrant and meant to inspire hope and relief, while still retaining a sense of sophistication. After deciding on the final colors each color was varied to three lighter tones to create larger variety of color execution within the identity system.

The variation from a darker tint to a lighter tint within each color help create sophistication and elegance within the system. The use of the green and brown colors tie to the idea of nature. They symbolize both growth and harmony within the earth. Green has a history of healing tied to it because of its relation to nature. The color blue is associated with the sky; it has a calming effect that is generally helpful to the body

25

and mind. The color orange stimulates activity, and it relates to the sun with the connection of being enthusiastic and happy. Red is a color that signifies passion and energy, both of which are prominent parts of Health and Harmony.

24 Color Palette The five vibrant colors start at the top and then gradually are tinted down(from the originals) to give variety and options for color usage.

25 Color Logo This is an example of the colors working cohesively to complete the logo mark. The blue and green together are both eye catching and natural.

Use of Design Elements Following the creation of the logo a letterset was rigorously developed. The letterset includes the Health and Harmony business card, letterhead, envelope, pocket folder, notepad, and note cards. After careful consideration, and thoughtful development we decided to move forward using rounded corners on most of the letterset. The rounded corners on these pieces make the

materials more tactile, look more inviting, and mimic the curvilinear qualities of the logo. The letterset utilizes a system of design elements that are meant to bring the feeling of energy, hope, dynamism and well-being to the company. These design elements become a factor in making each piece unique as well as tie-together each piece

29 Front of Letterset This side is clean and simple to convey professional elegance and make reading the letter clear and simple . It has all the business information to give the client all ways to reach Health and Harmony.

30 Back of Letterset The front of the letterset is bold with rich color and the energy swoosh design. This is meant to create visual interest and be recognizable when the envelope is opened.

Physical Therapy Physical Therapy is a unique health care profession that involves a comprehensive evaluation and specific treatments for pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction. The ultimate goal of physical therapy is to restore a maximum level of function, decrease pain symptoms and help prevent re-injury.

Muscle Activation Techniques Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) looks at a muscle’s tightness and pain as a form of protection in the body. Weak or inhibited muscles can create the need for other muscles to tighten in order to help stabilize the joints. While most therapies focus on treating the muscles with tension or pain, MAT gets to the root of pain/injury by addressing and “jumpstarting” weak muscles rather than just focusing on the tight muscles.

46

Strength & Personal Training This strength/fitness service is for those individuals wanting to lose weight, reduce bone loss, improve balance and flexibility, reduce risk of falls, improve posture and reduce postural associated pains, and to improve overall muscle strength for general living.

Stress Reduction Presentations and workshops are available to small and large groups for stress reduction, core strengthening, ergonomic education to avoid workplace injuries, general nutrition, and importance of physical exercise with guidelines given.

Energy Healing The principle behind energy work is that universal energies surround us and are within us. Energy work is a therapeutic method of deep purification that can release old traumas and fears that limit our highest potential in all areas of life. Through the process of energy work, our shakras (energy centers in the body) are opened and relinquish heavy energy blockages. By means of energy work, an individual can gain mental clarity, expanded consciousness, and a greater sense of peace.

High Touch Jin Shin High Touch Jin Shin is an ancient, powerful, natural healing art from Japan. It opens the body’s energy channels in areas where it is blocked by physical, mental or spiritual causes. Using light acupressure points performed by the practitioner, Jin Shin releases tensions, stagnation and blockages. This restores the body’s natural energy flow through the organs and meridians fostering a more balanced state of health.

Neshamah Neshamah Healing operates on a different premise than many other energy healing approaches because it works with the physical body as well as the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. It has supported many people in healing from various ailments. Clients lie comfortably on a table while a series of specific hands-off techniques are used to stimulate the flow of the client’s 41 own internal energy, or chi.

Lori Schlotzhauer Founder, Personal Wellness Coach, MSPT, MAT Specialist, Neshamah Healing Practitioner Lori is a physical therapist specializing in Muscle Activation Techniques, personal wellness coach, Neshamah healing practitioner, and Jin Shin practitioner. Lori received a Masters in Physical Therapy from Regis University in Denver, CO in 1996. Lori’s belief is that there are many factors to an individual’s physical and emotional well-being. As a physical therapist, she has found Muscle Activation Techniques a very effective tool to create balance throughout the body’s muscular/nervous system, thereby improving pain symptoms allowing one to have improved athletic performance and live more freely without pain. Her focus is to address the cause of pain, not just the symptoms.
