Analysis: I chose to make this poem because my ps3 plays a major role in my life, if i am not with friends or doing an activity you can find me on my ps3. I loved how my nick name Julie rhymes with Call of Duty so i was driven to make a poem out of it. Although it isn’t snowing at the moment i added that because first of all give it a few weeks and the snow will fall and second because I love snow.

Spread your wings and learn to fly, always be yourself because a original is worth more than a copy. People say you know know what you've got till it's gone. Truth is you knew what you had, you just never thought you'd lose it. Next time someone says that the sky is the limit ask them why there are footprints on the moon. Cinderella taught us that even miracles take a little time, so take a breath and close your eyes and enjoy the roller coaster that is life.

Analysis: This poem is mostly created by using quotes. I took some of my all time favorite quotes and tried to put them in a sequence that would make sense. I feel like because these are my favorite quotes it shows who I am so it is a vital poem for this anthology. The tone in this piece I feel is quite deep as it is showing the things that really reach out to me. I included things from movies and some things that famous people have said so it does include some allusions as it talks about what cinderella said in the movie.

A brown haired angel Written by: Julianna Scouras Grade 9 Calgary Science School

Eyes  ice  blue  like  a  beautiful  ocean Once  soft  brown  hair  is  now  a  shade  of  gold He  doesn’t  know  the  cause  of  commotion The  crazy  fans  north  to  south  young  or  old The  voice  of  a  beautiful  young  angel   An  Irish  lad  attractive  as  can  be With  his  name  featured  on  a  new  bangle He  has  trouble  dancing  with  his  hurt  knee Traveling  and  living  with  his  four  best  friends The  four  born  and  raised  in  lovely  Britain No  matter  where  they  are  the  fun  never  ends Perrie  Edwards  has  now  got  Zayn  smitten   For  the  angels  name  is  Niall  Horan You’ll  always  be  sure  to  Find  him  eating  and  snoren

Analysis: I chose this poem because I am in love with Niall Horan. In the last stanza you will notice that snoring is spelt wrong but that is simply so you will understand how i feel snoring would sound in this poem. I used a simile to describe his eyes which are quite ocean like. The tone in this piece to me is calming and in the same time slightly funny, any fan would understand some references made. I also included a metaphor comparing his voice to one of a angel, a fact that is quite true.

Oh Ice Cream... Slowly, slipping, sinking to the bottom of the cone. Taste and touch with your tongue. Let the cold, colorful, creation freeze your blue mouth. Brain freeze during your break while you bake in the scorching sun. Mistakes, mistake, as your feet miss step. Slowly, slipping, sinking as your ice cream falls.

Analysis: I wrote this poem for my love for ice cream, and every other food and beverage that has sugar in it... I chose the colorful sparkly pens because it first of all brings out the words in the poems and helps to break up the lines but it also shows how “colorful I am and how I like things to be different. I chose the backgrounds for this because I feel like pastels and ice cream just go together, and in the poem I mention the bright colors. I chose the pavement because I mention in the poem that the ice cream falls, in this case its on a side walk. I do not have a rhyme scheme through out this poem but in my second last sentence you can see the three words that sound similar but have different meanings. Mistakes - something you did wrong, Mistake - to identify wrongly, Miss step- To step in the wrong place. I also have almost identical sentences to begin and end. The first and the last sentence include parallelism because I feel like starting off and ending with the same thing would show where this poem starts and where it ends as it is kinda confusing.

A  day  in  the  life  of  a  skier

soft,  snow,  falls  slow Skis  track  the  feather  light  snow. Cold  air  rushes  by

Analysis: Skiing has been and still will be a massive part of my life. I took the things that i feel the most when i’m skiing and put them together. I have a metaphor in this piece i used to help the reader get a understanding of how the snow really feels like to me, “the  feather  light  snow”.  I   also  have  alliteration  to  add  emphasis  to  how  the  snow  is  still  light  and  falling  even  at  the  fast   speed  of  a  ski  racer.

world’s dance stage -Tirupathi Chandrupatla

World's a huge Dancing stage Let's play some music And dance in rhythm. Exciting dances From all directions From east to west And north to south. Classical and modern Religious and ethnic And folk dances From all the countries. Ballet or rock Rumba or tango Kathak or bhangra Let's try them all. Let's imitate nature In all its grace Like clouds moving On peaks of mountains Like leaves dancing With blow of the breeze Like waves dancing To reach the shore Let's dance in rhythm With nature's swing. Dance's energy Dance's vigor Dance's vibrant

Analysis: I chose this poem because it mentioned what dance is to me. It talk about how dance can be anywhere and can make people happy. This poem has a sharp rhythm in it which I feel was created as the poem is about dance and dance is all about a rhythm. The piece includes lots of similies, (Like waves dancing), that enhance the tone and what you imagine.

Flow of emotion Dance's art Body, the instrument Let's dance together To show our happiness And express our joy On world's stage.

Just get over it -Udiah (witness to Yah)

“ 'Just get over it, ' they say

I wish I could find a way

Analysis: When i first look at this poem, I think of why it caught my eye. The title, that was the first thing to catch my eye. “Just get over it” something that is said to people day by day, some things big some small. There is a rhyme scheme in this poem, AA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A, the end of all of the sentences ending in “ay”. This poem has a sad tone to it, describing how the poet is feeling depressed about a certain thing that happened, but the poem does not state what it is.

Living with it day by day

Memories won't go away

Medication helps to sway

Many feelings of dismay

But they do fail to decay

The loss that one does survey

Let the Lord of All Show me The Way. ”

My Angel -Nikki Addleton “My angel is the one who looks over me

My angel is the one who cares about me

My angel who has beautiful blue eyes

My angel has brown hair

My angel will be there to hold me

My angel keeps me warm

My angel is the one who is always on my mind

My angel is the love of my life

My angel is the one in my dreams

My angel has soft kissable lips

My angel will catch me when i fall

My angel will make me smile when no one else can

My angel will love me for who i am

My angel will be there untill the end of time

Analysis: I chose this poem because it reminds me of one of my really special best friends. In this poem includes repetition, “My angel”, which creates a nice rhythm. The poem not only talks about what their angel does for the author but also about what their angel looks like, giving the reader a feel that this poem must be about a real person in the authors life.

He is the angel god gave me “

Funny... But Not -Arianna Loshnowsky

it's funny how hello is always accompanied with goodbye it's funny how good memories can start to make you cry it's funny how forever never seems to last it's funny how much you'd lose if you forgot about your past it's funny how “friends” can just leave when you are down it's funny how when you need someone they never are around it's funny how people change and think they're so much better it's funny how many lies are packed into one “love letter” it's funny how one night can contain so much regret it's funny how you can forgive but not forget it's funny how ironic life turns out to be but the funniest part of all, is none of thats funny to me

Analysis: I personally chose this poem because i feel like it just shows how society now is. I love how the author used repetition for the start of every line, “It’s funny how”, it first of all shows you where the line starts but then it also creates a rhythm. I feel like the tone in this is more dreary but also passionate, the author wants to get it out there how she is treated and how she does not appreciate it. She states what is going on and then in the end she says “but the funniest part of all, is none of thats funny to me”.

A dream pang -Robert Frost I had withdrawn in forest, and my song

Was swallowed up in leaves that blew alway; And to the forest edge you came one day (This was my dream) and looked and pondered long,

But did not enter, though the wish was strong:

You shook your pensive head as who should say, ‘I dare not—too far in his footsteps stray—

He must seek me would he undo the wrong.

Not far, but near, I stood and saw it all

Behind low boughs the trees let down outside;

And the sweet pang it cost me not to call

And tell you that I saw does still abide.

Analysis:

I like the way that the author incorporated some “old English” into this poem, although I am not sure if it But ’tis not true that thus I dwelt aloof, still would have been used in his time. I like the rhymes he puts through out the piece, it doesn’t seem to have a rhyme scheme in it but if I had to make one for the poem, it would go A-B-B-A-A-C-CFor the wood wakes, and you are here for proof. A-D-E-D-E-F-F. Frost talks about how his song gets swallowed up in the leaves, this is a good example of personification and I feel like it gives you a better picture of what is going on in this piece. When reading this poem I picture a beautiful meadow, it is late fall and there is someone lying down in the middle of the meadow letting the leaves fall over them. I feel like they are writing, perhaps the person is in fact Robert Frost writing this lovely poem.

Identity vignette By: Julianna

“We know what we are, but not what we may be.” William Shakespeare. Julianna, it’s a name that my parents fought over for many months before I was born. It’s a name that is long like a branch, something that not many people will know how to spell, a name I would consider shortening to Julie.

My name means beauty, and youth in English; soft haired in Spanish, and is spelt differently than most. A name that resembles the stubbornness of an old tree that refuses to fall. A name that represents the mighty, large roots that keep this tree from falling. My middle names, Angele Helen, I feel like these names are a cat stuck in my tree. Angele, an old French name meaning Angel, was passed on from my grandmamma due to a family tradition. Helen, meaning shining light and most beautiful woman in the world, was passed down in the same sense. I feel as if the name Angele never has and never will relate me to me. Since my mother conceived me I was known as the little devil. As a young baby I would drive my parents close to tears with my erratic sleeping patterns and my habit of climbing up everything in sight. It is not yet known to me how Angele will ever fit into my identity, but then again my tree is still growing, not knowing what will come in the future. I will always wonder if I were born somewhere else in the world would I have the same name? Would I still be me, the me I am now? In the end all my name means is simply a name, it doesn’t truly serve me as a person, it is and always will be... My name.

Who am i... My poem anthology mainly touches the points of be yourself and do what you love. Be yourself, never let people tell you what you should be or should do, be a gamer, be the odd one out, just do it. Do what you love, make yourself happy; don’t let society choose what you should love. Dance… I love to dance. I use dance to express myself, the lyrics reaching into your heart and your brain creating a magnificent pattern of steps that show what this song tells you. Cod… I love cod. I have my friends that I can talk to while gaming and I also get the rush from playing that can just clear my head and let me think straight again. Niall horan… A major idol in my life. I choose to love him despite what people tell me. If you let people chose what and who you love, then you are letting you change who you are as a person, you are no longer yourself. The poems that I chose I think show more of who I am than how I feel, yes I include two that say this is how I get treated but those poems reach out more, past me and more refer to the whole teenage population. In most of my poems talk about what and who I love, but what I am trying to get across with this is that you need to be you, love who and what you love even if it is a stretch off of what people think you should do and love. Dance means so much more than just dance, it doesn’t matter what you look like and who you are, when you are dancing its all about dance! Should it not always be like this? No one should get judged for who they are and what they look like! This is what I wanted to show in my poems, I wanted to show how passionate I am about anti- judging! In the end the only way you can be happy is by being you… My name is Julianna, I am 5’3 with chocolate brown hair and eyes, I love to dance, ski, sing, ski race and most of all game. I am not a stereotypical teenage girl; I don’t prance around always caring about my looks and boys. I’d rather be at home gaming than at the mall, or playing a sport than instgraming. That is who I am, but only to a point. Yes I act like that, and look like this, but I feel like my poems show how I feel, because it is inside that counts right? You just need to spread you wings and learn to fly, jump off the train of normal to the platform of yourself.
