Vintage Dealers Band for Form New Outlet Top designers and dealers from Los Angeles area set up a new type of show for collectors and enthusiasts. CULVER CITY — August 4, 2010 — This spring, a group of vintage clothing dealers in the Los Angeles area led by Dave Temple of Clever Vintage Clothing banded together to create a new type of outlet for vintage enthusiasts to shop. They call it a Vintage Boutique. The concept was to create a small gathering of independent dealers to share the period wares with their frequent collectors. “Due to the uncertainty in the marketplace with websites like eBay.com and Etsy.com, we formed a new type of show,” he said. “Our event is unlike pop-up shops and trunk shows. They’re more personal and relaxed.” It worked. June’s inaugural show made up of 12 individually selected dealers and designers drew in an attendance of over 100 people, which even included a young hip crowd. It gave specially invited collectors the chance to browse classic, designer and repurposed wears in an intimate environment called the LightSpace Studio in the Helm’s Design District in Culver City. Because of the positive response they received from the first show, the second show, which is being held on September 25, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the same location will be free and open to the public. While the focus is on vintage clothing, some vendors will also sell vintage accessories and other “smalls.” The show has also expanded to include more booths, so new designers and dealers who would like to participate are welcome to join in on a first come first serve basis; however, reservations are quickly running out because Temple wants to retain the small personal feel. Several of the same vendors will return including Timeless Vixen (TimelessVixen.com). “I knew I’d be back as soon as we finished the first show,” said Lauren Lepire of Timeless Vixen. “It was a well organized, comfortable event with quality merchandise in a space that was perfect for collectors to shop in — well-lit with natural lighting, plenty of space, nice dressing areas and air-conditioned.” Temple added that the show will retain its comfortable and intimate environment that many customers complimented, and Café Max will again provide a scrumptious selection of food for purchase at the event. The LightSpace Studio is located at 8755 Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232. ABOUT CLEVER VINTAGE CLOTHING Clever Vintage Clothing launched in 1991 after its owner Dave C. Temple spent a lifetime inspired by vintage apparel and collected a garage full of great finds from across the United States. Temple eventually set up a showroom in downtown Los Angeles where customers of all kinds — designers, stylists, buyers, store owners, and vintage clothing collectors and enthusiasts — could find the vintage clothing they either personally wanted or needed for their business practices at a fair price with less hassle. It was a clever endeavor that has grown for over a decade and remains in its original downtown Los Angeles location.
