Freedom This document provides insights into the sources of inspiration for my idea as well as the journey to final execution. It is an exploration of the relationship between freedom and control, choice and compulsion.

PERSONAL SPACE/ VISUAL EPITOME.

THIS ROAD SIGN INDICATES THE AMOUNT OF SPACE FOR CAR TO PARK. IT IS A SIGNIFIER OF FREEDOM THAT CAN BE VISUALY APPLIED IN OUR LIVES TO PROTECT OUR PERSONAL SPACE. PERMITTING ANOTHER PERSON TO ENTER THIS SPACE DENOTES THE PERCEPTION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PEOPLE.

CHOICE OR CONTROL?

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF BENCH IN PUBLIC ENVIRONMENT? DOES IT CREATE A SPACE FOR US TO REST OR DOES IT CONTROL WHERE ARE WE ALLOWED TO SIT?

HOW DOES THE DESIGN INFLUENCE OUR EXPERIENCE WHEN SITTING ON THEM? LENGHT, MATERIAL, GAPS.. THESE ELEMENTS COME TOGETHER INTO SOME FORM OF GRID THAT SHAPES OUR PERSONAL FREEDOM. CHOICE OR CONTROL?

HAPPILY FREE.

GRID IS EVERYWHERE AROUND US. WE LIVE ACCORDING TO A DAILY GRID-SET OF RULES THAT GUIDES OUR LIVES. WE EXPERIENCE OURSELVES WITHING A GRID OF A SOCIETY. WE BEHAVE ACCORDING TO SOME MORAL CONVENTIONS, LIVE IN A HOUSES MADE OF GRID, WE EVEN WRITE A MAGAZINE ACCORDING TO A SET OF LINES. AND THERE IS OUR FREEDOM, EXPRESSING OUR INDIVIDUALITIES WITHIN AN ACCEPTABLE LIMITS OF THE SOCIETY’S GRID.

LIVING LIFE OF INSTANT DECISION MAKING.

F

FREEDOM IS THAT INSTANT BETWEEN WHEN SOMEONE TELLS YOU TO DO SOMETHING AND WHEN YOU DECIDE HOW TO RESPOND. ~JEFFREY BORENSTEIN

EXPERIMENTING WITH THE WORD.

EXPERIMENTING WITH THE VISUAL ATTRIBUTES OF WORD ‘FREEDOM’ AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP. USING LETTERPRESS CREATES AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF DIFFERENT TYPEFACES, SPACING BETWEEN LETTERS, THICKNESS OF THE TYPE ETC. SLIGHT CHANGE IN EACH ATTRIBUTE PROVIDES DIFFERENT VISUAL IMPACT TO THE VIEWER.

EXPERIMENTING WITH THE WORD.

THIS TECHNIQUE DEPICTS THE WORD AS A WINDOW TO THE OUTER WORLD OF FREEDOM. USING CUT OUTS ALLOWS THE IMAGE FROM THE BACKGROUND SHINE THROUGH THE HOLES AND CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF THE FREEDOM REVEALING ONES INDIVIDUAL PERCEPTION.

FINAL EXECUTION THE FINAL EXECUTION OF THE WORD FREEDOM WAS LAYED OUT AROUND MY ROOM DOOR. THIS CREATES STRONGER VISUAL IMPACT ON THE VIEWER STANDING IN FRONT OF THE INSTALLATION AND HELPS GETTING THE MESSAGE ACROSS. WE BEGIN TO DRAW CONNECTION BETWEEN THE IMAGESS AND FORM A COHERENT UNDERSTANDING OF THE OVERALL PICTURE.

FINAL EXECUTION

GRIDS MADE OF PATTERNS.

EXPLORING THE ENVIRONMENT AROUND ME LED ME INTO FASCINATING OBSERVATION OF THE WORLD OF PATTERNS. DO WE CREATE THESE PATTERNS TO HELP REINFORCING THE GRID? BY HAVING ADMIRED THE ORGANIC WORK OF ZAHA HADID, IT TRIGGERS A THOUGHT: “HOW WOULD THIS WORLD LOOK LIKE BEING DESIGNED BY THIS FAMOUS ARCHITECT?” WILL THERE BE STILL ANY PATTERNS, PREHAPS GRIDS?

FREEDOM AND EMOTIONS

TRAFFIC LIGHTSTHE PERFECT METAPHOR FOR CONTROL. LACK OF CHOICE WHILE IN A TRAFFIC CAN BE QUITE EMOTIONAL, LEADING TO ANXIETY, ANGER..

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL FREE?
