NICOLE

PETRILENA

Describe your style in three words or less. Warm, eclectic, comfortable.

Where does your style inspiration come from? Anyone in particular? I don’t have a particular person that I take inspiration from. I really like androgynous street wear, I take a lot of inspiration from indie/bohemian fashion. Honestly, my fashion is just a compilation of the things I like, I find inspiration everywhere.

What is your greatest thrift find? I’m pretty good at stumbling upon awesome thrifted t-shirts. I’m really into baggy, soft, men’s t-shirts with funny sayings and logos on them. I also thrifted these high waisted black and white striped pants that have been a favorite of mine recently.

Where do you shop? One of my favorite stores is Hunting Ground in Hampden. They have a great combination of vintage and new clothing, and super cool jewelry and accessories.

What does your style say about you? I think my style definitely says that I’m an artist, but I also think that it says that I am approachable and friendly.

Describe your style in three words or less. Hipster Portland Punk.

Where does your style inspiration come from? Anyone in particular? Most of my style inspiration comes from the members of bands I listen to. I usually like what I see when they’re on stage and when I dress like that, I feel like I’m in a band. Which is cool.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST THRIFT FIND? I once found an original pair of mint condition Nike Pegasus runners from the late 80s.

Where do you shop? I usually like to shop online, predominantly Urban Outfitters and Jackthreads. I do really like to wear smaller brands though, some local and others just undiscovered.

What does your style say about you? My style says that I’m loud and that I like to listen to music everyone else hates. That’s a quote from various friends of mine... unfortunately.

Where does your style inspiration come from? Anyone in particular? My style is inspired by Pinterest & Instagram. My favorite go-to Instagrammer for fashion inspiration is @marycake. Her style is varied but she always looks so good!

What is your greatest thrift find?

I n s ta g r a m : @ z o e l o g y _

I found the cutest crossbody envelope bag at a goodwill once for a super great deal of $5!

Where do you shop? I typically shop at Anthropologie, Free People, and ASOS. Most of the time I get their clothes used off of Poshmark or secondhand from a friend.

What does your style say about you? I don’t follow any of the current trends and typically just put clothes on that make me feel happy. Flowers and lace make me happy so I tend to wear it a lot! I’m really friendly but also extremely girly, and I think that is portrayed through my style.

Describe your style in three words or less. Pink Space-Teen.

Where does your style inspiration come from? Anyone in particular? I’m inspired by lots of stuff! Recently I’ve been really into Bratz dolls, Juicy, 2000s pop stars, and internet culture, as well as just anything pink and girly. I also have this country-western thing I do sometimes, and it’s always very Dolly.

What is your greatest thrift find? I went to a second-hand cowboy store in Wyoming and got this beautiful pink fancy cowgirl dress with fringe on it and everything. The owner of the store told me that the dress was handmade by a woman who would make the costumes for like serious square dancing girls. I love it so much!!! And on that same trip I got a cow print purse at a church consignment store!

Where do you shop? I like the website DollsKill, but it’s a little expensive. I thrift a lot. I like yard sales. But I get all my Juicy stuff off eBay or Amazon. I’m tryna become a Juicy hoe.

What does your style say about you? Fuck if I know. But I’m having fun!!

Describe your style in three words or less. Autumn, edgy, comfortable.

Where does your style inspiration come from? Anyone in particular? I think my style comes from things that I think look cool, and how I feel about my body at the time. I just started wearing crop tops recently and I love them but sometimes I get self conscious and will cover up but will make it work with whatever I’m wearing so I’m comfortable.

What is your greatest thrift find? My greatest thrift find was my leather jacket that I found with a giant patch of an American eagle that says “live to ride”. I thought it was ugly so I put the Cheshire cat’s face over it.

Where do you shop? I shop mostly at thrift stores, clearance sections, flea markets, and the gap for my leggings.

What does your style say about you? My style is my interests, it’s how I express myself outwardly into the world, as a gay buff biker grandpa who likes loose pants.

Describe your style in three words or less. Anything goes, fam.

Where does your style inspiration come from? Anyone in particular? Whatever isn’t trendy anymore, Vaporwave aesthetic and depends on how I’m feeling and how tired I am.

What is your greatest thrift find? A reversible jean vest that has this silk lining with a 1700s map printed on it.

Where do you shop? H&M and various thirft stores.

What does your style say about you? How much color (or lack of color) I can put into and mis-match in an outfit while still keeping it cohesive as well as my colorful and changing hair definitely says “this short child is a wild one” or “fashion majors can make anything work.”

Describe your style in three words or less. I can do it in one word haha, Trans.

Where does your style inspiration come from? Anyone in particular? Growing up in NYC you’d see outlandish fashion everywhere you went and I suppose I just took that and ran with it. I saw a woman walking down the street in 6 inch platform high heels and a bush made out of wire and nothing else. It was a defining moment in my life honestly. Most of the clothes I buy do foster a sense of androgyny to an extent though, and that’s something that’s been a constant throughout my style for as long as I can remember.

Where do you shop? Wherever I can find a good deal? I buy from forever 21 a lot, and a ton of different online shops/Etsy’s have great deals.

What does your style say about you? I n s ta g r a m : @ e l i d a w s o n r o s e

What is your greatest thrift find? I don’t thrift too often, but one time I did go thrifting in Hampden I found this silk pinstripe blazer with shoulderpads. It was calling to me what could I do?

My style is an expression of myself. I know that sounds cliche or whatever but a sense of style, clothing, makeup, all of that is extremely important to me, and it is so out of necessity. As a trans person, looking good, curating a style, all of that helps me feel more in my own skin, and a lot of times is essential to passing, which is problematic in its own right. My style says that I’m unapologetic about my identity, and fuck anyone that has a problem with that.

Describe your style in three words or less. Carefree, colorful, blunt.

Where does your style inspiration come from? Anyone in particular? A lot of my style currently is coming from recent cover shoots in Dazed and Complex. Ashton Sanders is a big inspiration for me right now.

Where do you shop? Most of my clothes come from ASOS, but I’m trying to expand to more places that may seem unconventional or different for people my age and turning those garments into my own.

What does your style say about you? I think I’m unique by switching between maybe looking really nice one day and looking more drab (still cute tho) on another day.
