mccarren park rehabilitation center

objective: convert the now abandoned maccarren park recreation center into a functioning physical therapy center. draw inspiration from the site’s origins as a public health center. description: the renovated mccarren park creates semi-public/semi-private recreational areas viewable and accessible from each patient room. visitors and patients have an opportunity to escape their isolated rooms and enter an area of social interaction and engagement, an important component in the healing process proven by evidence based design research studies.

objective: create floor plans, sections, elevations and a rendered sketch for the porch mobile mental health facilty.

side + back elevation of truck exterior [closed]

description: the porch travels throughout new york city and parks in various neighborhoods. once parked and opened, the mobile unit becomes a meeting place for senior citizens who suffer from mental illness. the porch encourages social interaction and peer-support for those individuals.

equalizer seat

objective: design a furniture unit inspired by an everyday object. the piece must have an audio component and be able to interact with the user[s]. description: the equalizer seat is an interactive sound equalizer as well as a functioning furniture unit, based on the physical appearance of a typewriter. sound amplification is determined by the position of the back speakers, resulting in multiple diverse visual and audio experience.

objective: create a gallery for an everyday technological object, specifically a typewriter. incorporate the object’s history and current role in society within the design of the space. description: typewriters were designed originally as stand-alone utilitarian objects and eventually became the model for computer/tablet keyboards and cellular phone keypads. the typewriter gallery becomes more interactive from beginning to end, just as typewriters have over time.

objective: within a 4500sf area layout and organize a lounge area as well as an office space for a popular liquor company. consider the analytical challages of using the same space both during the day and at night. description: ketel one is both a traditional and a modern brand. the nolet family uses a 300-year-old recipe to create ketel one vodka, yet it appeals to a young and stylish market. the space designed represents the duality of the ketel one drinker: the responsible professional and the social maven. while the office and lounge are separated, there are multiple opportunities of interaction between the two, creating a new experience with every visit.
