Hello AdCore! I’m Kara. A lot of people say I look like Kenn Chua from BS Econ. If I were an animal, I would be a cougar because they’re so attracted to fresh meat. I often dream of Eminem and I like to ponder about life in the rain. At a party, I’d want to get drunk on El Hombre tequila with other cheap people who would dare drink El Hombre tequila. I wanna try streaking sometime just to fulfill my curiosity. I would probably go to prison for streaking, but I’d get away with it. I wish I had the power to fly so that I can escape whenever i wanted to. I think that AdCore is really spunky and I’d hope to see them continue to grow and be awesome.

Hello AdCore! I’m Betsy. A lot of people say I look like a star? Haha. My Dad. ;) If I were an animal, I would be a cockroach because it never fails to make an impact when it shows up. I often dream of weird things (my homework and other school stuff and some movielike scenes in English that I am in) and I like to sleep (try it!) or cry (emo much?) in the rain. At a party, I’d want to get drunk on toxic fumes with you. I wanna try Parkour sometime just to fulfill my curiosity. I probably would go to prison for hugging people a lot, but I get away with it. I wish I had the power to freeze time so that I can get enough sleep . I think that AdCore is really awesome and I hope to see them do more great things.

Hello AdCore! I’m Meggie. A lot of people say I look like Marie Digby. If I were an animal, I would be a tiger because they’re so FIERCE. I often dream of being a videogame character and I like to sing in the rain. At a party, I’d want to get drunk on Patron Tequila with Anna Mangahas (hint, hint). I wanna try skydiving then scuba diving right after just to fulfill my curiosity. I would probably go to prison for illegal downloading, but I get away with it. I wish I had the power to read minds so that I can avoid conflicts. I think that AdCore is really AdMazing! (pilit hahaha!) and I’d hope to see them grow.

Hello AdCore! I’m James. A lot of people say I look like Chiz Escudero. If I were an animal, I would be a koala because they’re so small and cuddly (lol). I often dream of missing deadlines and I like to hang out with friends in the rain. At a party, I’d want to get drunk on Hidden Spring water (woot!) with Sheldon Cooper. I wanna try hitchhiking sometime just to fulfill my curiosity. I would probably go to prison for shoplifting a bookstore, but I get away with it. I wish I had the power to predict the future so that I can charge desperate people for my services. I think that AdCore is really orange (whut?) and I’d hope to see them all at the tambayan soon.

a friendly message from your President

Hello AdCore! I miss you all! It’s been so long since I met most of you guys.

Welcome back! I hope you all had a good start with your classes. Speaking of beginnings, I’m proud to tell you that we’ve had a good start this year. A couple of projects and partnerships have already started moving even before the classes did. Let me enumerate some milestones. First, our dream of convening advertising organizations is finally coming to life. Since we initiated this idea, we are part of the Tripartite Founders together with AdCreate of DLSU and Touchpoint of UST. We’re also able to gather support from other advertising organizations from different key colleges like Ateneo, Miriam, UPM. Right now, we’re currently drafting the vision/mission and constitution and are still recruiting more members. (Should you have more contacts from other colleges, please let me or Aimee know.) We are also heading the publicity arm of the Freshie Week, a USC effort to welcome the freshies. This is an exciting AdCore brand-building project since we have planned very out-of-the-box promotions within the university. Hopefully, we can implement them all soon. Again, if you wish to be involved, just do let me/Danne know. Last but definitely not the least, Team Addition successfully bagged a BA Freshie block and handled them last June 7. This is the first time AdCore has participated in this activity and this is significant growth as a BA-based organization. With all these at hand, Adcore is undeniably going To the Fifth Power! This is just the start for all of us and there are more milestones in store for AdCore. Let me also take this opportunity to thank our alumni who never fail to give back. Recently, there’s been an early inflow of clients, mostly for Punch Creatives, because of them. And there’s more to come. Alumni, if you can read these, we are truly grateful to you guys. Thanks a lot! Adrian Manlapig President, UP Advertising Core

EXECORE NEWS

ORANGE JUICE 01 JUNE 2010 | 02

FEEL THE ADCORE POWER by Betsy Aquino Hello mighty AdCore superheroes! I’m glad that you’re back for another mind-boggling, heart-pounding and swashbuckling semester. I know that all of you are very excited to try on your new superhero costumes. But before you do that, let me brief you first about your new mission.

Our aim this year is to raise people’s awareness of our organization. We want to increase our visibility and further strengthen our position, not only in UP, but in the society as a whole. Through this, we will be able to accomplish our main goal - to promote awareness on effective and responsible advertising to the Filipino youth.

Quite a mission, eh? Don’t worry superheroes! Remember that you still have your team mates and you will be helping each other to make great things A lot of other groups of superheroes are around, ready to battle for possible. And to make things more exciting, our masters (a.k.a. The ExeCore) recognition and supremacy. In spite of that, AdCore was able to make have given each of the five teams additional superpowers that you can use its mark in the past years as a group with ingenuity and insurmountable to help you accomplish the said mission! Great isn’t it? What are you waiting talent. However, every dream team needs continuous growth to always for? Read on to discover your newly-acquired superpowers. stand out. The Mission:

Human Resources: Superhuman Strength We know that the one of the main strengths of AdCore is its members. This year, our superhuman strength will give HR the power for the extra push that the members need to take part in the activities of the organization. It would also help in HR’s full force recruitment of new members and making them more bonded than ever. Finance and Corporate Affairs: Ability to Fly Fin and Corp Aff was given the ability to fly as it will be an instrument in taking AdCore to new heights. Because it also serves as our link to the corporate world, their new superpower will give them a wider perspective on things and would open AdCore to bigger opportunities. Also, admit it. Even superheroes need money to survive. <wink wink>

Good event and campaign ideas would be useless when they are not promoted well. To be able to find the right promotional ad that would catch people’s attention the PRP team was given the mind-reading skill. Through this new power, our PRP experts would continue to exceed expectations and blow us away with their incredible ideas. Special Events and Logistics: Foresight Being a key to AdCore’s successful events, our SEaL department was given the power to see the future to help them in planning and executing the events that we can say are truly AdCore. This superpower would also help them spot and create opportunities to promote the organization and its advocacies.

Creatives: Flexibility As the key differentiating pillar of AdCore, the Creatives team was given the power of flexibility that would help them to stretch their limits and as always, amaze us with their incredible masterpieces. Through this, they will be able to work with the other teams to be able to communicate messages in the most creative and effective way possible.

HOW I FOUND HOME by Jacques Reyes

A

pril 9, 2010, just a day before the AdCore plansem- I was talking on the phone asking my friend if I should go to the plansem or not. In my head, I was listing down the options for me - to go or not to go. I was freaking out. I hate being out of place during events where none of my close friends are attending. In the past years, I’ve tried joining other orgs and it was really hard for me to be part of it unless I was a sociable person that everyone adores. On my way to the plamsem, I was recalling my first day in the new tambayan where everyone greeted me with a big smile and tried to make me feel part of the AdCore family even if they did not even have a clue of who I was. From that day on, I said to myself, “I’ll like it here.” From what I’ve heard from my friends, plansem is stressful. It’s where you sleep at 5 am and wake up 8am and start talking about the org

yet again. Good thing I’ve got my snacks, chupa-chups, and anti-eye bag creams ready.

After two years of searching for a “home” in U.P., I was lucky enough to have found one.

Being part of the plansem gave me a chance to get to know the organization a little bit better. I got a chance to meet new people who are not at all pretentious. Everyone in AdCore is genuine; no one has to change themselves to fit in. After two years of searching for a “home” in U.P., I was lucky enough to have found one.

As usual, every plansem started with a team building activity that required us to work and think as one. Just like being part of the AdCore family, it is very important for everyone to help each other break obstacles and work as one unit to achieve one goal. Furthermore, I found out that even during the more serious parts such as planning for the 5th year of AdCore, it was also fun in a way. Yeah, planning for a whole year ahead was stressful; I was already “sabaw” during the first three hours. However, with some side comments, inside jokes, and junk food, it became more enjoyable. At the end I thought that it was not that stressful. Maybe the difference in AdCore with other organizations is that even the most stressful and haggard activity is fun.

With that I thank everyone in UP AdCore for making me part of this family, and for making my home possible after all.

O

kay. This is supposed to be a report about what happened at the BAGSAKAN held at the UP Diliman Sunken Garden Grandstand last May 24, wherein several CBA-based organizations participated in the hopes of getting one of the four freshie blocks this semester. This is not the story about a family with cool superpowers. However, did you notice that there are a lot of similarities between our story and theirs? Well, here are some of them: The Power In the presence of power, some people might not know what to do. Some might become afraid and try to turn away from it. Some might ignore it as they would just prefer to live a normal life. However, just like all responsible and brave superheroes, some might embrace it and step up to the plate like what HR VP Jowee Caraso and the other people who helped and/or volunteered to help in collecting the recyclables (a.k.a. pet bottles, plastic cups, cans and paper) for AdCore. They knew that it would not be easy but they all accepted the challenge and did their best.

The Challenges A superhero story would be lame if there were no challenges involved. That is why our own AdCore heroes also faced several trials along the way. From getting other AdCore members to participate, to the confusion with the results--they still remained strong in the middle of these challenges. Also, the other AdCore members who gave moral support and appreciated the efforts of those who tried, cheered them up for they really gave a good fight. The Victory Superheroes might get hurt and stumble but they always end up victorious. The same thing happened to AdCore when everything became clear. The final results came out and we were declared to be ones getting the fourth freshie block. AdCore has truly leveled up ‘to the fifth power’! The Prize

At the end of the movie, the superhero gets a prize. It can either be a kiss from the love interest or peace in their place (usually Superheroes need allies. They can be the scientist that just temporary). But for AdCore, it is the freshie block! Now, we get creates new gadgets and costumes for them, the friend who knows to meet new friends and guide them with their BA lives. Who knows, their secret identity or another superhero pursuing a same goal. In our someday they might case, they were the people who contributed the recyclables. Whether join AdCore too. they contributed a pet bottle or a kilo of newspaper, they were still part of the effort to win at the BAGSAKAN. So to all who contributed to make this possible (you know who you are), give yourself a pat on the back, you deserve it. The Allies

s children, we were always reminded by our elders to count our blessings. Whenever we put a number to the things we possess, the more we are reminded of how much value we really have. Let’s take a peek at the facts and figures of the org, and see how far we’ve really come. As the org approaches a new year, its value is only sure to keep increasing. Onward to the fifth power!

We asked your ExeCore the most important, serious and professional questions in the history of interview questions, in an attempt for you to get to know more about the leaders of our organization. Here are a few juicy fun facts that the ExeCore cooperatively obliged to let us know.
