Almost every little road has a bike lane, which adds up to more than 390 kilometres of designated bike lanes. The city is designed for cycling with cycle bridges, cycle highways, green cycle routes, foot rests for cyclists, tilted trash cans, bicycle repair services on wheels, cargo bicycle lending libraries, shops catering to cycling customers etc. This makes Copenhagen a greener, healthier and happier place to live and to visit. Copenhagen is a reflection of what a cycling city of tomorrow will look like. A Tour de France Grand Départ in Copenhagen, Denmark will promote the idea of cycling cities and will inspire leisure cyclists around the world. COPENHAGEN – A CITY OF SUCCESSFUL SPORT EVENTS We fully understand and respect that the Tour de France Grand Départ is an absolutely extraordinary event. If you choose Copenhagen, Denmark to host a Tour de France Grand Départ, you will experience a city and country with extreme passion for cycling and, at the same time, a very well-organized and highly experienced host of sport and cycling events. These are some of the reasons that Copenhagen, Denmark is widely recognized as one of the best sport destinations in the world.

2. STAGES AND DANISH HOST CITIES Allow us to introduce Scandinavia’s greatest little kingdom, steeped in a rich history yet home to a modern welfare state, always looking to the future. Denmark is a country in Northern Europe with a population of 5.7 million. It is part of Scandinavia, located southwest of Sweden, south of Norway and just north of Germany. The country is characterised by flat, arable
land, sandy coasts and a temperate climate
with warm summers and mild winters. Please let us introduce to you the proposed routes and the start and finish cities of the
Stage two Stage three

Stage descriptions Stage one – 10 km individual time trial – Copenhagen center The route of the first stage will start at Copenhagen City Hall Square in front of Tivoli Gardens at the centre of Copenhagen and then continue around the centre of Copenhagen giving the spectators a unique opportunity to see the riders at close range. The route will be of medium difficulty and therefore there will be only a few places along the route where riders need to be highly focused on their cycling skills. The route is expected to be fast as there are no differences in height. Before crossing the finishing line again at Copenhagen City Hall Square the riders will have ridden close to some of the most famous places and buildings in the centre of Copenhagen e.g. Rosenborg and Amalienborg Castles, The French Embassy at Kgs. Nytorv and The Danish Parliament. The start and the finish are located in the same area, since they are both placed at Copenhagen City Hall Square. Stage two – 180 km - Roskilde - Odense The second stage will start at the centre of Roskilde next to Roskilde Cathedral - a UNESCO world heritage site where the Danish kings and queens are buried, take a swing close to the Danish Viking Ship Museum, and then go south-west towards
Ringsted. The first sprint in the Tour de France in Denmark will take place in Sorø and the peloton will then move further south-west through Slagelse to Korsør and The Great Belt Bridge; where the first hill sprint of the Tour de France will be raced. Passing The Great Belt Bridge opens for cross winds and therefore the posibility of a split in several groups. Since the distance from the end of the bridge to the finishing line in Odense is no more than approximately 30 km, there will be an actual chance that the winner of the stage has to be found among the riders in a breakaway. Stage three – 160 km - Vejle - Sønderborg The last stage in Denmark will start in Vejle. From here the riders will have to ride a bit north-west to Jelling where the Danish birth certificate is located – also a UNESCO world heritage site, before the route takes them back to Vejle where the riders have to make a small climb. From there, the riders will ride south not far from the east coast of Jutland through the cities of Kolding, Christiansfeld, Haderslev and Aabenraa. Finally, the riders will go east towards Sønderborg where the stage is expected to end in a mass sprint. From Sønderborg – where the third stage finishes – there is less that a 10 minutes drive to Sønderborg Airport where the Tour de France peloton flies to France.

THE CITY OF ROSKILDE Roskilde is one of the oldest cities in Denmark with a unique cultural heritage and beautiful surroundings. The history of the city dates back to the Viking Age – and for centuries, the city was the capital and the heart of Denmark. Today, the lively commercial city has around 50,000 inhabitants. During the past half century, the city has built up extensive knowhow and capacity to host large events such as the Tour de France. TRANSFORMING COPENHAGEN AND DENMARK INTO ONE LARGE CELEBRATION OF THE TOUR DE FRANCE We want to transform all of Denmark and its capital Copenhagen into one great Tour de France celebration zone. We have a lot of ideas on how to do that. Please consider the following side events as proposals for implementing a Tour de France celebration zone – made in Denmark! YELLOW COPENHAGEN From the moment you arrive in Copenhagen until the moment you leave, you will never be in doubt that you are in the middle of a Tour de France celebration zone. For the occasion, we will create a yellow capital. Even at night, landmark buildings like Amalienborg Palace (the residence of the royal family), the Round Tower (17th-century tower and a trademark of Copenhagen) and Christiansborg Palace (the Government building) could be lit up in yellow. Copenhageners will be dressed in Tour de France colours and will welcome you in Tour de France attire.

However, our intentions are that everyone will have the opportunity to ride the first stage in Copenhagen as a kick-off for the Tour de France celebration. We know it would be a dream come true for many fans to “participate” in the Tour de France and we would be happy to organize a cycling for all race as a tribute to the Tour de France. We had great success hosting a mass participation race at the World Half Marathon in 2014, where recreational runners ran the 21.0975 kilometres together with the professional athletes. In total 30,000 people from 72 nations ran together through the

APPENDIX A. VISA - A WARM WELCOME Denmark is a country that welcomes visitors from all nations around the world with open arms and takes them to its heart, whilst entertaining them in its famed Danish way. Denmark is happily lacking in the bureaucracy that dominates the entry and exit formalities of many countries, and as a member of the European Union, Denmark has joined the
Schengen Agreement, which ensures the free mobility of people within the EU. Although stricter controls are imposed on visitors from countries which are not signatories to the Schengen Agreement, all delegates and their guests and all accredited media will be made welcome in Denmark for the Tour de France Grand DĂŠpart. The Danish organising committee will coordinate all visa issues with the appropriate governmental authorities in order

to simplify the entry.
APPENDIX B - SECURITY Denmark is one of the safest countries in the world. Copenhagen is one of the safest capitals in the world. The Danish police, in close cooperation with the Organising Committee, will have the ultimate responsibility for security during the Tour de France Grand DĂŠpart. The police are supporting the event and have supplied security for the Danish EU Presidency as well as the official visit of US President Obama and other dignitaries with great success. Previous events have given the police substantial experience and international recognition for their ability to keep Copenhagen and Denmark safe and ensure a relaxed atmosphere for all participants. In Denmark we can supply plenty of qualified, experienced volunteers to assist the police in maintaining order and security, and will form an additional security team to cover all issues from arrival at the airport, to local transport, hotels and more. The team will be managed by and consist of experienced security consultants, as well as police officers.

LETTER OF SUPPORT - GRAND DÉPART in DENMARK With this letter of support I aim to continue the positive dialogue with you and the Amaury Sport Organisation regarding a possible start of the Tour de France in Denmark, which was initiated during your visit to Copenhagen in November 2015 and continued during my visit at your race, LiegeBastogne-Liege, in April 2016. Denmark is a proud cycling nation with a great love for cycling. More than 12.000 kilometres of road is dedicated to cyclists and half the Danish population ride their bike several times per week. We bike whether there is sun, rain or snow. We bike to work, to school, to bring the kids to kindergarten, to shop for groceries and to social gatherings. We also have extensive experience with hosting major cycling events, such as the UCI Road World Championships in Copenhagen in 2011. Denmark is therefore a natural starting point for the greatest and most important cycling race in the world – the Tour de France. Hosting a Grand Départ and welcoming the best cycling teams to Denmark would be an excellent opportunity for us to further promote the Tour de France and cycling sport in general in Scandinavia and Northern Europe. It is therefore my pleasure, on behalf of the Danish people, to invite the Tour de France to Denmark, and I sincerely hope that you will accept the Danish invitation. Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.

Tour de France Grand Départ
I am writing to you as Minister for Sport and Culture to confirm my Government’s support of the Danish bid to host the Tour de France Grand Départ. In Denmark, we have a huge passion for cycling and indeed also for the world’s greatest cycling race Tour de France. Therefore, it would be a great honour for Danish sport and for all the people of Denmark to welcome you here. Denmark already has considerable experience in hosting major international events, incl. the prestigious IOC Session & Olympic Congress in 2009, the World Road Cycling Championships 2011 and the Start of Giro d’Italia 2012. You can be assured of not only my Government’s full support, but also of my personal promise to ensure that Tour de France Grand Départ will be guaranteed the stature and commitment that such an important event deserves. I very much look forward to welcoming you to Denmark.

LETTER OF SUPPORT - GRAND DÉPART (TOUR DE FRANCE) IN DENMARK
We are all very proud to announce our support for a start of Tour de France in Denmark. As chairmen of three of the five regions in Denmark that are expected to lend their roads to a Grand Départ in Denmark, we feel committed to be part of making this huge event a great success. We are looking forward to showing the whole world how cycling is part of our everyday lives in all the cities of our regions and it will be a great chance for us to demonstrate how the Danes love sports in general and that cycling is one of our most attractive and popular sports. Since all regions strive to create the best quality of life for their citizens, creating the best possible opportunities for riding bikes is something that we all care deeply about. To host the biggest cycling race in the world will fit our respective cycling strategies perfectly. We are very much looking forward to bid you welcome in Denmark. Yours sincerely, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen Chairman of the Capital Region of Denmark
Stephanie Lose Chairman of the Region of Southern Denmark
Jens Stenbæk Chairman of Region Zealand
