The following year, the Vols defeated Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl and then beat Northwestern in the 1996 Citrus Bowl. Tennessee then claimed the 1997 SEC Championship after defeating Auburn and played Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.

While at Tennessee, he helped the Vols to wins in the Fiesta, Citrus and Hall of Fame bowls as a long-snapper. In 1994, he worked with the UT quarterbacks, including Heisman Trophy candidate Peyton Manning. Tennessee won the 1994 Gator Bowl over Virginia Tech.

The Columbus, Ga., native earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering from Stanford. He is married to the former Amy Swain and the couple has two children, Peter (4) and David (1).

Ogle played at the University of Tennessee from 1991-94 and then served as a student assistant from 1994-97. He spent the next two years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Knoxville Central High School, where the team finished as the Class 4A State Runners-up.

A BO U T J S U

Norwood lettered four years in football and track and field at Stanford University and was selected as defensive captain of the 1993 Cardinal football team. He played in the 1991 Aloha Bowl and the 1993 Blockbuster Bowl. As a track and field athlete, he earned All-American honors in the hammer throw in 1995.

His rushing offense set school records for rushing yards per game (260.27) and total offense (444.45) during the 2004 season as the team won their secondstraight OVC Championship.

Prior to working at Auburn, he served as a business technology analyst at Crowley Maritime in Jacksonville, Fla, from 2003-2005. From 1996-2002, he served as a business manager, industrial engineer and senior business analyst for Intel Corporation in Chandler, Arizona.

Four of his players have rushed for more than 1,200 yards in a single season, led by All-American Clay Green’s total of 1,352 in 2006. Rondy Rogers set JSU’s school record with 1,417 yards during the 2001 season, Kory Chapman, who played with the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots, recorded the third best single-season rushing mark with 1,285 yards in 2003 and Oscar Bonds finished with 1,263 rushing yards and a school record 19 rushing touchdowns in 2004.

Norwood spent two years at Auburn, where he was responsible for opponent scouting, organizing scout teams, video breakdown and computer data entry. He also prepared the defensive scouting report and assisted with on-campus recruiting.

Ogle helped establish the Gamecock running attack as one of the best in the Ohio Valley Conference after leading the league in rushing for three seasons with a 215.27 average in 2005 (17th nationally), 260.27 average in 2004 (6th nationally) and a 242.08 average in 2003 (12th nationally). Last season, he helped the Gamecocks lead the OVC in total offense, averaging 408.1 yards per game, which ranked 15th nationally.

O U T LO O K

The Gamecocks have been the most dominating defense in the Ohio Valley Conference over the last two years. Last season, JSU led the OVC in scoring defense for the third straight year, allowing just 21.7 points per game.

Jimmy Ogle begins his 10th season on head coach Jack Crowe’s staff and the 2009 season marks his ninth coaching the Gamecock running backs.
