Ronald Beverly’s one-yard run with 6:45 to play in the first quarter gave WSSU a short-lived 6-0 lead. But from that point on, it was big play after big play for the Gamecocks.

Nickey Edmondson’s 55-yard run and Terrence Bowens’ 23-yard scamper put JSU up 14-6 after one quarter. Henry Ray then hauled in two scoring passes from Edmondson and Tracy Pilot caught a 52-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 35-7 in the third quarter. Danny Lee’s 62-yard punt return capped off the 42-point explosion.

Quarterfinals – Nov. 30, 1991 Jacksonville State 35, Mississippi College 7 JACKSONVILLE – Having been knocked out of the playoffs by Mississippi College each of the past two seasons, Jacksonville State returned the favor in a 35-7 drubbing in the Division II Quarterfinals.

JSU wasted little time in disposing of the Choctows. Danny Lee took the opening kickoff 77 yards before lateralling to Fred Mack, who went the final 18 yards for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead. JSU went on to put 14 additional first half points on the scoreboard, thanks to a 10-yard run from Nickey Edmondson and a 5-yard plunge from fullback Terence Bowens, before the shell-shocked Choctows knew what hit them. MC got back in the game with 7:46 showing in the second quarter on a three-yard run by Kevin Woodson, but Sean Richardson’s touchdown runs of seven and four yards in the third quarter sealed MC’s fate. It was the third time in as many games that the Gamecocks held the Chocs without a touchdown, yet the three points were all MC needed. JSU was stymied by the conditions, managing just 126 yards rushing. It’s best opportunity to score came on a blocked field goal in the second quarter. Linebacker Tracy Allen raced through to block Stewart’s 23-yard attempt. Eric Davis picked it up and was tackled 23-yards later.
