Julia Stangelmaier As a small child I loved to paint walls and furnishings. The love for creativity led me to the training in the school of painting in Baden, where creative work (gilding, restoration, various techniques for wall design) had a special status. And then to the study of design and product management at the FH Kuchl, where the connection between creative thinking and economic aspects is taught. It gives me great pleasure to see in how many areas creativity can be combined with optimal solutions. For my professional career I would like to express my creative streak in a field that gives me pleasure as part of an enthusiastic team.

Dare a second look

FH Team-Project 2019

The CloseUp brand was developed as a team in the subject Service and Product Management. The idea behind this name was to create an awareness for recognizing the essential things. The frame is intended to focus on the details and thus the special beauty of an image that can only be recognised at second look. In our hectic everyday life, looking closely is often missing, therefore our claim: DARE A SECOND LOOK. The selected motives show, for example, the beauty of nature and should draw attention to social issues with a focus on the environment. On the website there is a text for each motive with facts. For example, lichens: “a clean thing� wherever they can be found, they are an indicator of clean air. Website: https://www.closeup.design Intagram: close.up.design


Exhibition stand Cologne Scrabble Circulation

FH Team-Project 2019

The main idea is to create a connection between the design process and the circular design concept. The wallspace design starts with the sketch (Scrabble) which represents the first thoughts about a project. A collection of ideas, a first brainstorming. The line transforms into first two- then three-dimensional shapes, which stands for the first steps of modeling and prototyping. The line shows the way from the base to the finished product. The four pedestals show the process of a biological or technical cycle of the exhibited product. The pedestals, which are made of a cardboard plug-in system, are reinforced by a Hanit plate (made of recycled plastic) in the bottom. The pedestal is folded from a piece of cardboard whose reinforced interior provides space for stable transport of the object. The remaining space can be filled with newspaper.


Future Bus Juke Bus

FH Team-Project 2019

The team’s task was to design a futuristic bus for Key-Wi Music for daily road traffic with seating for passengers. Additionally the bus should offer possibilities for special music events. We developed a concept with mirror elements on the outside so that it becomes part of its environment through the reflections of its surroundings.

The middle part of the bus can be moved forward to make room for a stage (in the picture on the top right). So the bus can be opened for events. In the back part of the bus there is a self-service bar that works like a drinks automat. When the passenger takes the drink, the bar plays music that can be heard through the loudspeakers in the whole bus.

The Juke Box was our model for the music playing bar. That’s why we chose the name Juke Bus.


Releif

FH Project 2019

The task was to analyse a specific car body in order to understand its formal language. This was then to be transferred into a kind of relief. From a block of PU-foam the Releif was formed with small and larger files. The finished relief was cut apart, then sanded with sandpaper of different grain sizes and painted white. These process were repeated until the surfaces were white and smooth. In addition, a wooden pedestal was made and also painted white. I fixed the finished relief parts with plexiglass rods on the wooden pedestal.

On the next two pages are some of my drawings and sketches. I drew with prismacolor pens, with markers, chalk and ballpoint pen.


Restaurant Obersdorf Renovation / Redesigning Architecture Project 2016 - 2017

One of my activities in a Vienna architectural office was the supervision of the project: conversion and redesign of a restaurant in Obersdorf (near Vienna). I was allowed to support the team in many areas from the inventory to the handover of the finished project.

The most exciting task in the advanced stage of the project for me was the design of an interior/furnishing concept including the redesign of a bar on digital basis (ArchiCAD). Having a certain amount of freedom in designing was a great pleasure for me. During the realization process I learned to observe all standards and guidelines.

I was very fascinated by the choice of materials and fabrics and the opening of the finished restaurant.

School of painting Te c h n i q u e s

Education 2009 - 2015

During my school education in the school of painting I especially loved the practical lessons in the workshop. My experiences during this time included the restoration of old wooden chairs. While learning the professional painting craft I was particularly fascinated by the Venetian spatula technique. With this complex technique with its marbled, matt to smooth appearance I designed a living room wall (see picture on the right) as well as two supporting pillars for a living/sleeping area. The technique consists of several layers. The material is applied in portions to the wall with a special spatula and smoothed off. The character of the surface depends on the way the technique is used. It depends on whether it is applied horizontally, from top to bottom, in arches or simply crosswise. Other techniques I learned in the course of this training are spatula technique, winding technique, stubbing technique, comb technique and the stubbing technique (see picture on the right).
