TEACHER DIRECTIONS: Start a travel bug! A travel bug is a dog tag that gets sent around the state, country, or even the world through geocaches. It usually has a mission. For example, you might attach a small Alaskan Husky figurine to your travel bug and its mission is to travel to Nome, Alaska where the Iditarod dog sled race is held every year. Geocachers will move it from cache to cache until it hopefully reaches its final destination. You can track the travel bug’s progress, mileage, photos, etc. as it makes its long journey! You can purchase one from the shop at Then, visit to learn more about sending your bug! Use the included cluster web to help you and your students get started with ideas and have fun! Perhaps several can be purchased and groups of your students can create different missions/goals for their bug. Students can log on and see the progress of their bug where math/social studies curricular connections are just a click away!
