Are schools failing to equip students for the world of work? Internationally, employers appear to be struggling to find young people with the skills they need. Over half (51%) of executives surveyed say a skills gap is hampering their organisation’s performance, and only 34% claim to be satisfied with the level of attainment of young people entering the company. The nature of the gap, however, is ambiguous. Greater collaboration between schools and industry (…) appears to be key to improving students’ readiness for work. Nearly three-fifths (57%) of executives think business does not have enough say in setting the curriculum in their country (…). While employers may be willing to top up the knowledge and training of bright recruits, it is soft skills whose absence leads to greater problems.

A nivel internacional, los empresarios parecen tener problemas para encontrar jóvenes con las aptitudes que necesitan. Más de la mitad (51%) de los empresarios entrevistados afirma que la falta de aptitudes está afectando el rendimiento de su organización y solo un 34% afirma estar satisfecho con el nivel de preparación de los jóvenes al entrar en la empresa. La naturaleza de esa falta, sin embargo, es ambigua. Una mayor colaboración entre escuelas e industria (...) parece ser la clave para la mejora de la preparación de los alumnos para el mundo laboral. Casi tres quintas partes (57%) de los ejecutivos considera que el mundo empresarial no tiene suficiente poder de decisión en la definición de los planes de estudios de su país (...).
