We are Artists! We created Kandinsky-inspired art during a visit from Susquehanna Art Museum’s Art-to-Go program. Additionally, we created “Nighttime” art that was displayed during a community Artist Showcase at a local library.

As the 2012-13 school year begins, children transition to Head Start, PreK Counts & other programs. Regularly scheduled in-home education visits will be offered to children who do not enroll in such programs. In addition, evening preschool Family Activities will be held in our Gettysburg office – all families are encouraged to attend. These activities provide parents with ideas and support to encourage their child’s educational development, as well as provide for social interaction among families & staff. All families are welcome & encouraged to attend! Parents! If you have questions or concerns about your child (birth-5 years), please contact us at (717) 3340006… x2370 Lori; x2410 Maria; x2350 Monique. Verano 2012

Learning extended beyond the Opportunity Center with visits to Catoctin Zoo, Whitaker Center, Biglerville Library & Oakside Park. It was also fun to visit our older siblings & friends at the Summer School. We enjoyed visits from Francisco & Roberto (teachers from Mexico), the Bookmobile, Trooper Garcia, Bendersville Fire Co. & others.

We learned lots about ourselves, our community, and our world – and how to “take care” of each. We learned about healthy food choices and the importance of physical activity. Families participated via send-home backpacks of learning activities; and each family received an educational kit to keep at the end of the summer. We participated in the OC Olympic Games, and enjoyed soccer, basketball, horse races, hurdles, and other physical activities. We are champions!

The Opportunity Center was bustling with 38 children during its 31 days of operation during July-August. Families attended our July 9th and August 16th evening activities, and several joined us for the August 8th “Clowning Around” morning program. Our August evening Family Activity included presentations by the young children, as well as our “graduation” of the PreK children who have moved on to Kindergarten.
