Evaluating Print Quality

GENERAL GUIDELINES Print quality is more than just a function of how many dots (dpi) the printer places on a page. When testing for print quality:

11"

Test on media that consumers will use most frequently with the Photosmart A826 Home Photo Center

When testing on photo papers, use the manufacturer’s recommended photo paper. For this printer, HP recommends HP Advanced Photo Paper.

Test in the same physical environment. Humidity and temperature can affect output.

Consider standards compatibility (Adobe RGB, sRGB)

Evaluate the output for the following: – Bright, vibrant colors – Crisp lines – Ensure there is no graininess or visibility of dots – Skin tones should look natural – Images should look natural and realistic

Assessing the quality of photo prints is far from being an easy job. On the contrary, it is a fast changing and very complex field due to the continuous advancements and improvements of both digital photography and printing technology. Nevertheless, it is very important to define evaluation standards for authoritative and comparable results, since there is an ever increasing demand for tests on the quality of printed digital images. Magazines, public institutions as well as manufacturers themselves evaluate photo prints. Consumers rely on the information provided by these sources when making purchase decisions.
