Paula was once a shy, quiet, insecure girl who was afraid to try much of anything. “But with

[Joyce’s] inspiring words and God’s grace, I have blossomed into a confident and happy woman.” After reading The Confident Woman, she began to “believe” that God loves her, and felt encouraged to “step out of the boat” and follow her dream of singing. Paula now leads worship at her church in New Jersey.

“Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome….”

here does your confidence come from? Do you get it from the things you own or the number of degrees you have? Or maybe it’s your work…how much money you make? Do you take pride in your appearance, how well you can sing, play an instrument or some other talent or ability you have?

Think about it for a moment. Gifts and talents are great. We should feel good about our accomplishments in life. But it’s not wise to put our faith in accomplishments, possessions or abilities. Any of that can change in an instant and we’ll find that our confidence won’t sustain us for very long if we base it on those things.

Put your confidence in God. What a wonderful sense of freedom when you realize you don’t have to depend on your own abilities! When you trust in God to empower and enable you, your confidence can soar because you know He can do in and through you anything He wants to do.

So let’s cultivate the things of God inside us, and build up our abilities and strengths, trusting the Holy Spirit to lead us and use us as He chooses to touch someone else’s life. And then we can be free to enjoy and be blessed by the gifts and talents of others as well.

BLACK

However, we can have outrageous confidence in the God who created us in His own image. Our personalities, gifts, talents and abilities are a part of Himself He put within us to be a blessing to others. And that is what makes each of us very special.

Sometimes messy and difficult family situations like divorce, alcoholism, abuse, or other problems make it even harder to persevere with a positive, peaceful attitude.

Magenta

There are awesome responsibilities that come with being a parent, and while many men are committed to their families and deeply involved in their children’s lives, mothers tend to be the primary nurturers.

I have met young moms who feel they are not what they should be unless they can juggle marriage, parenting, homemaking, and a career all at the same time.

Then there’s the worry that your children may not choose to pursue a personal relationship with God or walk through life with Him.

Yellow

At one time or another, every mom has felt lacking in her ability as a parent. It begins with caring for your newborn. Am I doing this right? And then continues with toddler tantrums all the way through the teen years. Am I making the right decisions? Are my kids going to turn out all right? When they make mistakes, will they know that God is on their side? Even when our children are grown-ups, they’ll forever be our children.

If you feel like your joy in motherhood is being overshadowed by family challenges or a swirling

sense of self-doubt, I want to help you claim the confidence you need to enjoy the journey of motherhood. I’m not talking about confidence in your own abilities; I am talking about having confidence in God’s ability to help you and guide you each step of the way. He intends for motherhood to be a joyful experience, and I want to help you learn how to lean confidently on Him.

ONE THING GOD DOESN’T WANT you

BLACK

to do is worry. Some people think if they aren’t worrying about their children, they’re not good parents. However, the Bible warns us not to worry because it does us no good.

Yellow

Magenta

CYAN

Matthew 6:27 says, “And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life?”

God’s Word states that if we train our children in the way they should go, when they are old they will not depart from it (see Proverbs 22:6). If you are concerned about your children, just cling to that promise. Pray for their needs, and then cast your care on God. Instead of feeling the pressure of worldly expectations, do the best job you can to raise your children according to godly principles and leave the rest up to God.

SOMETIMES MOMS MISS OUT on what could be joy-filled moments because they are concerned they aren’t measuring up to other moms. But God’s Word says it’s unwise to make comparisons (see 2 Corinthians 10:12).

Like most parents, Dave and I had some kind of issue with each of our children. And I wasted a lot of time worrying while they were growing up.

He doesn’t want you to be like other moms. He wants you to celebrate the fact that you are unique! Every person has special gifts and talents. And at the same time, we are all surrounded by people who have different gifts and abilities that we don’t have.

Two of our children struggled getting through school, one was very messy, and another was an extreme perfectionist and put tremendous pressure on herself. The good news is they all made it and are doing fine.

Insecurity and a lack of confidence will not only steal your ability to enjoy other people’s gifts—it will cause you to feel inadequate and may even keep you from pursuing the wonderful life that God has planned for you.

Some of them took a little detour and made some bad choices, but they learned from them and came full circle back to what they were taught.

God made you one-of-a-kind and wonderful in your own way. So cultivate your strengths, gifts, and personalities, and pass that confidence on

Life is always more enjoyable and fulfilling when we choose to cultivate an attitude of gratitude and contentment. I am not encouraging you to settle for situations that need to be improved, but I am urging you to accept the way God made you and the life He has given you. The truth is, nobody has the perfect life. Decide today to take the first step toward learning to enjoy your life by making the most of what you have. It also helps to embrace the ordinary—to delight in little things, to appreciate small blessings other people might overlook.

“ I F YO U F E E L L I K E YO U R J OY I N M OT H E R H O O D IS BEING OV E R S H A D O W E D BY FA M I LY C H A L L E N G E S O R A SW I R L I N G S E N S E O F S E L FD O U B T, I WA N T T O H E L P YO U C L A I M THE CONFIDENCE YO U N E E D T O E N J OY THE JOURNEY OF M O T H E R H O O D .”

Whatever situation you find yourself in—and no matter what is happening with your children, you always have access to the unlimited, unconditional love of God.

Say to yourself “God loves me,” and let it sink in. Repeat it often: when you awake in the morning, when you go to bed at night, and throughout the entire day. Look at yourself in the mirror, point to yourself, call yourself by name, and say, “God loves me.’’ You can also keep a book of remembrance filled with special things God does for you. Include the little things as well as major things. And read over your list at least once a week to keep yourself encouraged. Read some good books about God’s love. After God gave me a personal revelation about His love for me, one of the first messages I ever taught was about the love of God. Through that experience I wrote a book called, Tell Them I Love Them.

Hey, Mom! Joyce’s new book will help you put your confidence in Christ as you face the daily challenges of raising the next generation. Order your copy today!

or should’ve been, or spend time wishing things were different than they are. But like worrying, wishing is a waste of time.

Throughout the years, God has encouraged me to get filled up spiritually in a variety of ways. I started by studying what the Word says about His love, and made a point to declare out loud several times a day “God loves me.” It felt uncomfortable at first, but doing this helped me embrace the truth of God’s love. I encourage you to do this too.

Pray for the Holy Spirit, Who is our Helper and Teacher, to give you a personal revelation of God’s love. Always remember, you’re not alone. God is always with you. Lean on Him for the grace and wisdom to follow His lead. He’s the best teacher, comforter, confidant and encourager there is, and He can give you all the peace, patience and confidence you need to succeed. When your confidence is in Him, you can truly enjoy every minute of your journey.

Parenting with GodConfidence

When God created your children, He took pride in the details, giving each their own special qualities, and laying out a unique plan for their lives. And when He made you a parent, He gave you a wonderfully complex job. But be confident of this: He is here to help you with every detail.

And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be [first] in your [own] minds and hearts; [then] You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up. And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets (forehead bands) between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house and on your gates. –Deuteronomy 6:6-9

TEACH Every scripture is useful for teaching, correcting, and training our children, as well as us, to live according to His will (see 2 Timothy 3:16). Ask God to lead you to any specific scriptures that He has in mind for you right now. Record them here.

DISCIPLINE It takes discipline to administer godly discipline, but God will bless your efforts. Read Proverbs 29:17. Moms, read Proverbs 31:26-31 for some added insight. LOVE God offers an amazing definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. And He leads us to love our children in different ways at different times. What kind of love does each of your children need right now?

PRAY First clear your mind of any distractions, and then pray for each of your children. Ask God to help you see and respond to their individual needs. Write whatever comes to mind.

I love John 16:7 in the Amplified Bible. Here, Jesus uses several different words to describe the incredible work of the Holy Spirit: Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener and Standby. Let’s take a look at what this means for our lives…

Well, as Christians, we have access to Someone even greater: the Holy Spirit.

COMFORTER

I believe one of the greatest lessons we can learn is to run to God first when we have a problem. When we are hurting, so many times we look to other people to help us feel better only to discover they don’t have everything we need.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 1:3 that God is “the God of all comfort.” The Holy Spirit, Who dwells on the inside of us, knows us better than anyone else, and when life is painful, He has the ability to bring strength and healing right where we hurt. Yes, the Lord will often use others to bring us comfort, but running to God first opens the door for Him to help us in the best way possible.

COUNSELOR It is simply amazing what can happen when we begin asking the Holy Spirit for help and answers to our problems. Recently, I was having episodes of feeling really weak and tired. As I sought the Lord about it, He showed me I wasn’t eating often enough and my blood sugar was dipping too low. I adjusted my diet and everything went back to normal! When I later went to the doctor, he confirmed this was the problem. I believe we often spin our wheels looking for solutions when the Lord has our answers all along. The Holy Spirit is our Counselor, and as we seek Him, He can reveal in a few moments things we could never discover on our own.

HELPER Did you know the Holy Spirit wants to

The truth is, the Holy Spirit is concerned about everything that concerns you—whether it’s a “serious” matter like a relationship issue…or something as simple as fixing your hair in the morning. “Help me!” has become one of my favorite prayers to pray. And the more we acknowledge the Holy Spirit and ask for help, the more we’ll discover His presence and ability in everything we do.

ADVOCATE

The Bible tells us that Satan is our adversary. In fact, it even calls him “the accuser of the brethren” (Revelation 12:10 NKJV). But there’s good news: We have an Advocate, the Holy Spirit, Who pleads to God on our behalf. He’s not only our Advocate to the Father, but the Holy Spirit also accompanies us through life—helping us, defending us and giving us favor with others when we need it. Whatever situation you’re facing, you can take comfort knowing that God Himself is on your side.

help you with every little detail of your life? Maybe you are like I was. For years, I felt like it was okay to bring my “serious problems” to God, but I didn’t want to bother Him with the smaller things.

INTERCESSOR I don’t know where I’d be without the help of the Holy Spirit in my prayer life. The Bible says He not only intercedes on our behalf to the Father, but He also comes to our aid and helps us to pray that perfect prayer when we don’t know what or how to pray (Romans 8:26). First Corinthians 2:11 says no one knows the mind of God except the Spirit of God. That means regardless of the situation, the Holy Spirit can always help us pray the right prayer at the right time.

STRENGTHENER

Isaiah 40:29 says that God …gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound]. I never start a day without asking the Holy Spirit to strengthen me—physically, mentally and in every other way. Because no matter how strong, talented, or capable we think we are, every single one of us requires God’s strength to accomplish His will and enjoy our lives. I encourage you to begin asking the Holy Spirit for strength as you go about your day. As you do, He will energize you to do your work, resist temptation, be kind and loving with others, and have success. I’ve found that even a short prayer for God’s strength can make all the difference.

STANDBY

What does it mean to have the Holy Spirit as your Standby? Years ago, the Lord gave me a terrific example. He said think of it this way: If you’ve ever been on “standby” for an airplane, you simply wait nearby until an opening is available—then you take that opportunity. In the same way, the Holy Spirit is standing by, just waiting for an opening in our lives…waiting for us to ask for His comfort, counsel, guidance, and help.

Holy Spirit, thank You for Your supernatural help. I ask for Your strength, comfort, creativity and guidance…and to be more aware of your presence as I go about my day. Amen.

Even with years of experience in our favor, we can still feel fearful when we’re faced with a new challenge. But a woman who puts her confidence in God is unstoppable. She knows she can do all things with His help—and she’s ready and willing to take big risks.

Maybe at the time, they didn’t imagine the bright lights shining, camera flashing, TV cameras rolling, and about a dozen people watching. Despite the incredible intimidation factor, we think the shots turned out beautifully. Their God-given boldness shows.

OUS!

At one time or another, we’ve all felt too awkward or ill equipped for what He asks us to do. But God doesn’t want us to try to escape the challenges He’s prepared for us. He wants us to trust His leadership in our life.

We dared a few ladies to take that challenge—to participate in a fullblown photo shoot to prepare for our 2014 Women’s Conference. And we were absolutely delighted when they embraced the opportunity.

ANY WORDS OF WISDOM? Don’t be discouraged about where you are on your journey with God. In the beginning, we’re all like torn up, abandoned houses in need of major reconstruction. And at first glance we may seem impossible to fi x, but God knows what He is doing. Even if you’re not fond of the woman you are today, you can still be excited about the woman God is making you to be.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF. I’m a wife of twenty years and a mother of three teenagers. I’ve been that awkward teen who felt utterly alone in life, and I’ve been the daughter who lost her mother at age nineteen. I’m a full-time employee, a college student, and a mom who is involved in each of my children’s lives. I’m not Super Mom; but I’m doing my best with what God has given me.

I TRUST IN

I AM BOLD, CONFIDENT & COURAGEOUS BECAUSE… I used to be afraid that if I fell in love with a man, he’d just end up using me. But God has set me on a journey of accepting His love and letting it transform me. I’ve learned that I don’t have to be afraid to love other people the way He loves me.

God loves you and He has good plans for your life. But life can be hard, and we all face challenges, disappointments, and difficult, discouraging situations. That’s when you need to know: What should I do when I’m hurting? The best thing we can do is look to God for help, no matter how we’re hurting or what our needs may be. He is “the source of all comfort.” His wisdom and ways are higher than ours, and all things are possible with Him (Isaiah 55:9; Matthew 19:26). Whether your burden is your own, or you’re hurting for someone you love, God wants to meet you where you are and bring you peace and stability through His love and grace.

Yes, you are just one person, but you affect many other people. Every life is important. Look at Adam in the Old Testament. Adam’s single act of sin and disobedience brought condemnation to mankind. But then Christ came and His one act of righteousness gave everyone who believes in Him new life and a right relationship with God (see Romans 5:18-19). It’s phenomenal the blessings (or curses) one person can bring. You can either help build the kingdom of God or do harm to it. Why not choose to be a blessing?

hat are you seeking in life? The word “seek” means to crave, pursue and go after something with all your might. Whatever it is you seek is a vital necessity to you. Sometimes we pray for our own breakthroughs, saying to God, “If I can’t get a breakthrough, I don’t think I can go on.” But imagine if we craved God first, praying instead, “God, if I can’t have more of you in my life, I don’t think I can go on.” What if we wanted less of what God can do for us, but more of God Himself?

He will take even the fragments of our lives and do something amazing with them (see 1 Corinthians 1:27, 2 Corinthians 4:7)—if we’ll just let Him take charge of our healing.

FEATURING

You don’t need to live in fear that it’s too late for you or that you’ve done too much wrong to be forgiven. Everything can be worked over and turned into something good. Just give it to Him and say, “Here, God. I’ve made this huge mess and I’m sorry, I’m giving it to you.” He won’t throw it back at you. He never leaves us to face anything He won’t heal us from—and use to bless other people in amazing and unexpected ways.

HOPE How You Are Reaching the Hungry and Homeless in the Former Soviet Union BY CHAD TRAFTON

When the Soviet Union fell in 1991, everything literally changed overnight. The sudden fall of communism led to economic collapse and resulted in sweeping social changes, including a new national religion and, in some locations, a new language.

The growing population also feeds a growing problem: thousands of “social orphans” lacking a home or proper care. Often escaping abusive situations or parents struggling with addiction, they many times go from bad to worse, falling prey to other dangerous situations or addictions themselves.

Early each Saturday, church buses make their rounds, picking up those who have been invited. The Latvian government also plays a critical role. Social Services have seen our impact on the community and regularly tell people about the program.

The outreach here is two-fold: First, the teams have the opportunity to bring groceries directly to homes. They are able to provide them with food and share Christ’s love in a very special way. Second, they invite them to attend our food outreach held at a nearby park. Each week, hundreds line up to receive a hot dinner at the mobile food truck. This outreach shows them that someone loves them…and cares enough to come out and provide a meal to fill their stomachs. It also opens the door spiritually for us to share the Gospel message and the love of Christ.

Once at the church, Pastor Andre Chebotarev shares an encouraging message, letting them know they’re not alone—that God and the Good News Church are on their side. Each week, many give their lives to the Lord. After the service, they enter the dining room, where volunteers have set up tables and are waiting to serve them a hot meal. Forming relationships is a major key to this ministry. It’s here that so many choose to come back and attend regular weekly services, along with classes offered at the church on handling finances, cooking on a budget, and other practical topics to help them make ends meet.

In all, through your support, we are able to regularly help feed 2,100 people in the city of Moscow.

But just beneath the surface ARE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE SIMPLY TRYING TO SCRATCH OUT AN EXISTENCE.” people, what they do…I understood in my heart that it’s mine—it’s my ministry, it’s my work.” Volody has indeed made it his own. Every Friday evening, he faithfully comes to set up tables and chairs. Then on Saturdays, he serves meals, helps give away groceries, and cleans up after the event. But that’s not all. He also brings his guitar to church and local rehabilitation centers to minister to others through worship. For Volody, things have come full circle.

COMING FULL CIRCLE The success of this ministry is measured in lives changed. In fact, many of the Saturday morning volunteers were originally introduced to the church through this food ministry—volunteers like Volody Chernov…

So many live in cramped one or two-room apartments and share a community bathroom and kitchen with several other tenants. These buildings are often where our ministry begins…

At twelve, Volody ran away from home to escape an alcoholic father. For four long years, he lived on the streets of Latvia, finding shelter anywhere he could. Caught up in the wrong crowd, he was eventually arrested for drug possession, a crime that kept him in prison for nineteen years.

For the past several years, we have partnered with Rick Renner Ministries’ Good News Church in Riga, Latvia, to help restore the lives of so many of these precious people. Similar to the outreach in Moscow, ministry teams visit these families, bringing groceries and a message of hope. But this is just the beginning. They invite them to attend a special Saturday morning service at the church, where they can receive a hot meal and make an even greater connection with people who love and care about them.

“Riga, Latvia, is a

And there are so many others. Through this outreach, we are a part of regularly feeding more than 2,250 people in Latvia—not only with food, but with the spiritual and practical help they need to change their lives.

He was finally released to a rehabilitation center. That’s when he heard about the ministry.

Friends and partners, you are making this possible. Your generosity is reaching around the world and into the hearts of those who need it the most in the former Soviet Union. In the wake of political and social change, love still translates into any language. Chad Trafton is a staff writer for Joyce Meyer Ministries.

“I had a friend who invited me to the church and I started coming here,” Volody says. “And then I saw the life in the church, how they are serving

Freedom’s Rising Sun HOW TO RETAIN THE LIBERTIES OF THE FIRST CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION

BY DAVE MEYER

Everyone knew his meaning; he believed the Unites States would succeed. And it did. In fact, the document that Franklin and his friends gave us that day resulted in one of the greatest nations in history…a rising sun poised to shine brightly for the next 200 years.

47 million immigrants came into our country from 1820-1975.

The U.S. represents approximately 5% of the world’s population but has created more new wealth than the rest of the world combined.

We are responsible for more discoveries in medicine, education, power-energy, transportation, aircraft, and agriculture than any other nation.

The U.S. has been the food basket of the world, and we have never suffered a famine.

We are always the first to provide relief to other nations during natural calamities, sometimes even providing aide to our enemies. 2

“I have often in the course of the Session looked without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting,” said Franklin. “But now at length I have the happiness to know that it is a rising sun.” 1

The results were astounding. Because we honored the Lord and reached out to Him as our source, we quickly became a nation of abundance:

Magenta

Benjamin Franklin sat and took it all in, then once again found himself staring just past the President’s chair at a familiar painting of a warm sun gleaming above the horizon.

A Quantum Leap — That day, we officially became a nation based on law. Our government locked into our Constitution the godly principles that had been our bedrock since the Pilgrims first landed in the early 1600s.

best “Because the United States honored the Lord and reached out to Him as our source, we quickly became a nation of abundance.”

“If You Can Keep It” — Let’s go back for a moment to September 17, 1787. After the Constitution was signed into law, Benjamin Franklin exited the building to a crowd of curious people. One woman shouted, “Sir, what have you given us?” Franklin famously responded, “A republic, ma’am, if you can keep it.” What did he mean? Our form of government offers the very greatest liberties and freedom—but it also requires the most responsibility, moral virtue and maintenance to keep it intact.

Forward Thinking We didn’t succeed by accident. Discover the 28 principles that made America great.

BLACK CYAN Magenta

In the past fifty years alone, we have allowed God to be erased from our history books, prayer to be taken from our schools, and the government to exercise unprecedented control. The Cycle of Nations — In his book, The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic, Sir Alexander Tytler describes what he calls the “Cycle of Nations.” He says the average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years, and each of these nations has progressed through the following sequence:

The 5000 Year Leap Paperback by W. Cleon Skousen

$19.95 Yellow

Our republic was formed for good, moral, active people. However, over the years, our moral fabric has deteriorated and the American people have slowly stopped fighting for what’s right. And our passivity has come at a great price…

• • • • • • • • •

From bondage to spiritual faith From spiritual faith to great courage From courage to liberty From liberty to abundance From abundance to selfishness From selfishness to complacency From complacency to apathy From apathy to dependency From dependency back to bondage3

America has experienced unparalleled abundance. But as we began to forget the Source of our abundance and where we came from, it led to selfishness. We have gone from a strong godly nation, ready to fight for our liberties and moral principles…to one that’s complacent, allowing ungodliness to creep in little by little. Today, we are primarily a nation that doesn’t even know there is a battle. As a result, we are yielding our rights and slowly becoming more dependent on the government—not God—as our source. As Christians, the choice is up to us: We can either stand up and fight or lay down entirely. But we can’t stay the same and expect the direction of our country to change. Worth Fighting for — I believe God has called me to sound the alarm—to call people’s attention back to their true heritage. My desire is to rally our nation to stand up and fight for the incredible freedoms and liberties that we have been given. Ignorance is what led America into its weakened condition, and knowledge is the only way to get free. I strongly encourage you to get educated. By reading books like The 5000 Year Leap by W. Cleon Skousen, you’ll discover the true godly history of our nation and the principles that made our country great. You’ll discover the principles worth fighting for. The same God who heard the cries of our Founding Fathers is still with us today. And He is looking and longing for His people to cry out to Him for help. With His guidance, we can keep this great nation that was entrusted to us more than 200 years ago… …and not let the sun go down on America. 1. W. LIVES

changed

It was impossible to take Graham to a restaurant or the grocery store because of his out-of-control rages. “Once we were in the mall and he started screaming,” Robyn recalls. “The other boys started to weep. They said, ’Mom, we have to leave or someone is going to call the police.’”

Shifting Realities — So began Rich and Robyn’s long journey as parents of a special needs child. “Everything shifted,” says Robyn. “It’s like you’re living in a bubble, and then there’s a rupture. In an instant, you go from what was normal to what is a challenge every day for the rest of your parenting lives.”

Robyn confesses that she experienced rage herself. “I wasn’t ready for this, she explains. “I didn’t want this. God had volunteered me for it.” “Through all this, God had to stand firm in my life because I was so angry,” says Robyn. “I asked Him, Why did this happen to me? What’s the purpose? How could this be your will? Sometimes, God doesn’t always answer the way we want Him to. But He stepped in at the point of our weakness and gave us the strength we needed to parent Graham.”

Days later, Robyn rushed Graham to the hospital. On the way he slipped into unconsciousness. Then he stopped breathing. As she laid his body on the nurse’s station, someone yelled, “Code blue!” and medical personnel began working frantically to resuscitate Graham’s heart. “This is not happening,” Robyn told herself as she looked on helplessly. Doctors were able to restart the baby’s heart, but Graham had suffered permanent brain damage.

Magenta

Graham’s behavior as he developed was violent and erratic. “At four years old,” Robyn recalls, “he would run down the street screaming and tearing his clothes off. In church he would attack other children. At home, he would bring big knives into our bedroom while we were sleeping. For everyone’s safety, we had to install special locks all over the house. Our lives were upside down.”

In 1987, Pastors Rich and Robyn Wilkerson were the parents of three healthy sons. In the summer of that year, six-month-old Graham developed what seemed like a simple ear infection. Robyn took Graham to the doctor for treatment, but his condition only worsened. In fact, Graham had been misdiagnosed. It wasn’t an ear infection, but deadly spinal meningitis.

Turning Point— One particular episode finally changed Rich’s perspective. “Graham was maybe six or seven at the time. He was angry at the dinner table and throwing his food. I had had enough and told him to go to his room.

Parting Wisdom— What has Robyn learned from her challenge of raising a special needs child? “I thought the worst thing that could happen to me was having a child of mine become permanently less than what I expected,” she says. “But that “worst” thing turned out to be the very thing that propelled me to my destiny—and built me into the person I am now. We are all better people for having Graham in our lives.” Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. But He has chosen to heal Graham progressively rather than all at once, and he will continue to live with us.”

Unexpected Blessings— “When you have a special needs child, it doesn’t always make you first-string popular,” says Rich. “People can be cruel. As humans, we are shallow in our awareness of how valuable everyone is to God. But having Graham in our family has built a heart of compassion in my other three children and given us the ability to see people who need help.”

“He ran to his room and we could hear him banging around, pulling all the clothes out of the drawers. It got quiet and I finally opened the door to see him sitting on the bed.” What happened next pierced Rich’s heart. “His name for me was ‘Deh,’” says Rich. “He said, ’Graham stupid, Deh.’ At that moment, I had a reversal in how I saw Graham. In God’s eyes, we are all “special needs” kids in need of His grace. I put my arms around Graham and we prayed together. When he felt better, he ran out of the room. That’s when I put my head in my hands, prayed to God and said, “I am stupid, Deh.”

The Can-Do Crowd A BEHIND-THE-SCENES LOOK AT OUR FAITHFUL VOLUNTEERS

AS SUPERVISOR OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES’ HELPS MINISTRY, I have a unique perspective. I get to see what happens behind the scenes… and work with the people who make our U.S. conferences run smoothly. At every conference, our team prays for strength, wisdom and the ability to help people in the greatest way possible.

One thing is for sure: We simply couldn’t do it without our faithful volunteers. Most people don’t know it, but we require about 150-200 volunteers for each conference. These men and women are the first ones to greet you when you walk in the door. They also help you find that perfect seat, answer all of your questions, solve problems, and help to generally make your experience as wonderful as possible.

Our volunteers make a big commitment, dedicating almost three entire days to serving those who attend. This often means long days, short

nights, and the ability to maintain an incredible attitude through all types of situations. Over the past nine years, I have had the privilege of working with some of the most faithful and dedicated people I have ever met—far too many to ever mention in these pages. But let me tell you about just a few… BRUCE CHAPIN volunteers for at least five conferences a year. That’s impressive, especially when you consider that he works full-time as an engineer and uses his vacation days to come serve. Three years ago, after his wife passed away, Bruce began serving as an usher. His kind heart and incredible willingness to help has made him an usher captain and one of our greatest volunteer leaders. He is also dedicated. Flying in from out of town, he pays for his own airfare, hotel, rental car, meals, and everything else. But for him, it is all

It’s that kind of passion that helps make these conferences run smoothly…that prepares the way for those attending to receive everything God has for them. BARBARA GENAY-CRABBE is a perfect example. In her late 70s, she is full of life and comes to work hard. She attends at least four conferences a year and, like Bruce, pays for all of her own transportation and expenses. Barbara officially serves as an usher captain, but she’s also like a mom to the group. She is an absolute blessing and such a benefit to our team. DONALD GRANGER is another one of our treasures. Donald is many things—a medical nurse, an EMT, and only months away from graduating from seminary to become a minister. You can also add “servant” to that list.

When I think about the blessings of volunteering, my mind goes to GENE AND TERRY GUIN. Their tireless work and exemplary attitudes are priceless. But maybe greater than that, they have tremendous perseverance. Last year, they lost their son in a tragic car accident, but they’ve been determined to keep serving and helping people in spite of their pain. They recently told me, “We have to serve… it is therapy for us.” And by reaching out to others, I’ve watched them receive healing themselves. I may be partial, but I believe we have the greatest volunteers in the country. These are the men and women behind the scenes…the ones helping set the stage for so many others to have that special moment with God.

Our volunteers ensure that everything runs smoothly—from helping people find a seat to assisting them at the resource tables.

So, to all of our Joyce Meyer Ministries volunteers (and you know who you are), we say thank you.

For the past four years, Donald has made himself valuable as someone who can solve problems and take care of almost anything. If there’s an issue that needs to be handled, you’ll find him right in the middle of it. Time and time again, they say to me, “Lynn, you have no idea what God has done for me through Joyce’s teachings. This is the least I can do to give back.”

By serving others, I’ve also watched so many of them receive their own healing…

“I don’t think it can be overstated— we simply couldn’t do what we do at these conferences without our faithful volunteers.”

Along with being dedicated and committed, so many of our volunteers have one other thing in common—they are passionate. And their passion to serve stems from a heart of gratitude.

I often tell people this—and I don’t think it can be overstated—that Joyce Meyer Ministries simply couldn’t do what we do at these conferences without our volunteers. Their willingness to serve and follow through on their commitment makes all the difference for not only our team, but also for the thousands who attend.

Live to Love HOW YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD (AND YOUR LIFE) THROUGH SIMPLE ACTS OF KINDNESS

BY DAN MEYER

For example, without our friends and partners, Joyce Meyer Ministries wouldn’t be able to do much. But something incredible happens when a lot of people decide to do what they can and send their $5, $10 or $20. That adds up, and then together we are able to make a huge impact in the world.

BLACK

The truth is, it’s impossible to focus on helping others and be miserable. As my mom often says, “Where the mind goes, the man follows.” When we are constantly thinking about ways to help or bless others, it gets our minds off ourselves and brings us joy.

CYAN

In fact, there is something so powerful in doing what we can.

I believe love is contagious. Because when we make love a priority, our lives become bright lights (see Matthew 5:16). People see our joy and the goodness of God, and they want that for their own lives as well.

I challenge you to make love your focus. Determine to have fun with it and see how many people you can bless in little ways throughout your week. As you do, I believe the results will amaze you.

Magenta

I think so many times we believe the little stuff doesn’t matter…or that we don’t have enough to offer. But time and time again, I have watched God take “a little thing” and use it to transform an entire situation—whether it’s meeting a specific need or simply taking a few minutes to laugh and cheer someone up.

Love Is Contagious—My desire to walk in love and live a life of giving all began with my parents. They set the example. For years, I watched them be good to people and go out of their way to make things happen for others. I witnessed the impact it made…and also the happiness it brought to our family. As a result, I wanted to be just like them in this area.

And you’ll find you’ve never been happier in your entire life.

LITTLE THINGS can make a big difference. In fact, each one of us has a very special gift—the ability to be a blessing and make an impact in someone else’s life.

THERE’S NO MANUAL FOR

MOTHERHOOD A lot of veteran moms will tell you to simply, “Trust your instincts,” because when they were in the thick of it themselves, they felt overworked and overwhelmed.
