Mantachie first-year coach Lynn Moore plans on using an up-tempo offensive attack to lead the Mustangs to victory in their second season in Class 3A. Moore, who served the last two seasons as offensive coordinator for Anniston (Ala.) High School, will rely on an experienced core of running backs and seniorladen defense to set an early tone for the campaign. “We’re a hurry-up, no huddle, fast-paced offense,” he said. “We want to throw the ball around, but we are going to be a physical run-first football team.”


Returning starter Dustin Carrel entered the fall as the No. 1 quarterback, but safety Micah Sparks, as well as Austin Byrd and Phillip Christian could all see snaps. “Dustin brings a year of experience and throws the ball well,” Moore said. “He is a really smart kid and I think he brings a lot to the table with his leader-

The Mustangs welcome three new assistants as Chad Garner, A.J. Freeman and defensive coordinator T.J. Seago join the staff … Moore, a former coach at Itawamba AHS, Aberdeen and West Point, went 9-5 last season as the offensive coordinator at Anniston, Ala., including a berth in the Alabama 4A semis … Mustangs are home for six of the first seven weeks … Moore, also the AD, has worked to improve facilities, including new 1,600-seat home bleachers.
