A REFLECTION OF TRADITION AND PRIDE

THE TRADITION

It is a tradition for The University of Arizona students to wear the ring with the “A” facing toward them prior to graduation, reminding them of the goals and achievements on the horizon. At graduation, the ring is to be turned so that the “A” faces out for the world to see. This represents the future, strengthened by lasting memories and friendships that keep Arizona close to heart.

THE STORIED SYMBOLISM BEHIND OUR UNIVERSITY SYMBOL The top of the offcial ring is adorned with the Arizona “A,” representing our eternal tradition of painting “A” Mountain each autumn.

The ring is available with a red or blue stone, symbolic of our primary school colors.

All who wear The University of Arizona Ring have a timeless reminder of their memories and achievements.

BEAR DOWN Our cherished “Bear Down” phrase encircles the top of the ring. Athletic great, John “Button” Salmon, uttered these fnal words of encouragement to the football team just prior to his tragic passing. “Bear Down” has been our unifying symbol of community strength.

OLD MAIN Old Main is featured on one side of the ring, with the campus cactus garden in the foreground. This garden of various cactus specimens symbolizes the diversity of our University community and represents Arizona’s geography in the beautiful Sonoran Desert. The palm trees in the background represent the beauty of our campus.
