PROJECT VISION

NANJING, CHINA Program: Large-scale mixed-use development 一个引领创新和支持创造性社区的技术中心 Office: NBBJ A Center for Technology that Drives Innovation and Supports a Creative Community. The project is a located on a vacant industrial site, that will become the Information Business Center in Nanjing. The superblock development will include a retail center, 5 star hotel, class-A office space, and residential units. The project creates a sustainable mix of jobs, living, and shopping options that will take pressure off of the transportation network by limiting the distance between uses. The 2 km extension to the river will provide a destination and identity to the area while restoring the natural habitat. The project will create a sustainable model for future developments in the area by setting standards on efficiency and urban design principles. 苏宁睿城

The 300 key hotel is the third and final phase to the conference center development, and is pivotal to create an iconic destination within the complex. The hotel is the venue for international conferences including the Euro-Asia economic summit. The site also attracts visitors for boat races on the two intersecting rivers. The architecture and landscape is designed to enhance the experience and activities of the participants and visitors. The experience in the hotel is focused on the connection to the water and the city. The project is oriented to 4 5 6 7 of the city views to the take advantage south-west and west and the views to the mountains and rivers to the north and south-east.

TECH HIGH ATLANTA, GEORGIA Program: High school Tech High is a charter school for environmental science and technology. The building is designed to teach students specifically about the surrounding environment. The project focuses on water as a natural resource that can be harvested with the overflow being held in retention ponds. The movement of water and people are in constant dialogue influencing and informing circulation. The physical connection to the ground is emphasized through the Mat building typology and exterior classrooms. The project is designed around exterior spaces that collect and form clusters of classrooms as well as reaching out into the environment of the eco-commons.

RE-ENVISIONING WEINLAND PARK COLUMBUS, OHIO Community Garden, Local Amenities The project reacts to the existing neighborhood condition of factories being torn down and the general disrepair of the declining neighborhood. The project uses the accumulation of buildings to create a social street to allow for interaction off the main street while giving it a new street presence. The idea of filtering is used to bring people into the site and expose them to the preexisting nature of the project, while creating a pedestrian street that allows for interactions within the project. The building has been preserved to show the history of the buildings, and the potential the structures still posses. The project plays with the multiple scales from the neighborhood to the industrial. The architectural promenade through the project isolates certain moments that blend the two. New interventions are focused on in the project but the urban artifact is highlighted.

TIANJIN, CHINA Program: Mixed-use Tower Team: Joshua Tooill, Mauro Buffa, Sandeep Ahuja The project was completed with a partnership between Georgia Tech and the BlackBox Studio of SOM. The work is centered on optimizing the structure, form, and facade fabrication of one of the tallest buildings that will be constructed in China. The variations were created using sysml and grasshopper to adapt the proposed form to achieve an optimized tower following constraints from SOM. Once additional information is gained, such as the facade fabrication contractor, the scripts can be fine tuned with additional information for the specific project.

The amount of cues given and received shows the increase in density and complexity

William Forsythe’s dance, One Flat Thing Reproduced, was brought to Ohio State as a cross-disciplinary research project to re-interpret the piece. The dance focuses on cues and counterpoints through the progression of the dance as it builds momentum. For the installation we used the principles of origami, as the goal was to transform the flat data we had drawn from the dance and create a spacial interpretation. Using prisms similar to the cues, where one angle leads to the next we were able to follow the density of the dance as it starts out with only a few dancers and builds to almost twenty.

Individual prisms are connected to create The Volumetric Idea: the volumetric whole.

这四个主要的建筑外层立面被设计為具有立体质感的双层表皮, 而内层表皮则维持光滑的幕墙.这个立体质感的外层表皮我们採 用单元式的幕墙系统.相对於应用传统的幕墙, 这个独特的外层表 皮将创造与眾不同的视觉和阴影效果. 每一个幕墙单元高效的运 用轻构件型塑框架以固定在建筑外表皮上.这个单元式幕墙系统 最主要的概念是创造一个轻巧的表皮并且创造节能的效果.这栋 塔楼将把地面上的城市生活与无限的天空,由一个优美的弧线连 接起来。而清脆的线条将意味着超出限制的发展。

Architecturally, the four primary outward-facing skins for the tower have been treated as textured surfaces, while the inner skins have been developed as smooth planes of glass. The textured or articulated skin surfaces are developed by modifying the concept of a standard unitized curtain wall panel. Rather than developing a continuous interlocking set of flat panels to create a smooth surface, the individual panels have been tilted to create a unique geometrical effect. Each panel will be efficiently created by welding a frame of steel square tubes. The perimeter of each box-frame will be wrapped with conventional unitized extrusions. The fundamental concept of the unitized curtain wall has been retained and the interlocking extrusions between adjacent panels will form high-integrity water and vapor barriers.
