The on campus interviews provided valuable feedback and helped me prepare for the real interviews. I had the opportunity to interview with a larger number of companies without missing a lot of class. earn about internships, jobs, organizational culture, working conditions, benefits, and more when you attend these sessions. This is a great networking opportunity! If you are a graduating senior, we strongly recommend you attend these sessions.

On Campus Interviews

D

id you know you can interview on campus for postgraduate jobs? Many employers are seeking students from a variety of majors and backgrounds. Visit your career counselor to make sure you are prepared to submit your resume and to be interviewed. Check your Career Gear account to see who will be interviewing.

Practice Interviews

P

ractice your interviewing skills and connect with an employer. Open to ALL MAJORS. Schedule an interview through your Career Gear account with one of the following employers: American Red Cross, BB&T Insurance, English Construction, Hound Ears Country Club, Murray Supply Company, Transportation Insight, and Western Youth Network! These practice interviews will be approximately 30 minutes followed by a 10 minute feedback session with the interviewer.

Perfect Interview

P

erfect Interview is an online, practice interviewing system designed to offer you a way to develop your interview skills. You will need a computer with a high speed internet connection, a webcam, speakers, and a microphone. If you do not have access to these items, schedule an appointment with CDC to utilize Perfect Interview.

ptimal Resume offers students a variety of tools to help create, present, manage and share their resume and receive feedback from a career counselor. Career Gear appstate-csm.symplicity.com/students/ Career Gear, powered by Symplicity is the Career Development Center’s new career management system for scheduling career counseling appointments, posting resumes, searching for jobs and internships, signing up for on campus interviews, researching employers, identifying employer mentors and staying up to date with career center events and fairs.

t’s a fact! Students who have practical experience through an internship are given more consideration by potential employers for jobs and by graduate schools for admission. Come speak with representatives from organizations that offer internships. All majors and all class ranks are encouraged to attend!

PROGRAMS & WORKSHOPS Resume Clinics September 6 - 20, October 31- November 4, 11-2 Room 387, JET building You have approximately 10 seconds to impress an employer with your resume. What are employers looking for? Drop by our resume clinic to receive feedback from career counseling professionals. Networking 101 Tuesday, September 20, 2-3 Linville Falls, Student Union Eric Lam, Recruiter with Maxim Healthcare Services, will provide information on how to effectively network; including the use of LinkedIn and other social media tools. How to Work a Career Fair Tuesday, September 20, 3:00-4:00 Linville Falls, Student Union Career fairs are a great way to make connections with employers and find out about available opportunities. They can also be nerve-wracking! How do you approach representatives? How can you make a great first impression? A representative with Liberty Mutual will answer these questions and provide insight into what employers are looking for! How to Ace an Interview Monday, September 20, 4-5pm Linville Falls, Student Union Are you nervous about the interview process? Do you know how to successfully prepare for interviews? Joe Schoeneck with E&J Gallo Winery, will provide insight into the winning traits that employers look for in an interview candidate. Career Summit Fall/Spring, 5:30-6:30 Roan Mountain Room, Student Union This workshop series will help you answer questions big and small, from “What do I want to do with all of my experiences,” to “Which bullet point should come first on my resume?” Registration for this series is not required and students are welcome to attend one to all of the sessions. Every student who attends at least 4 of the 6 workshops will receive special recognition as a Career Summit Graduate. Career Summit Graduates will have their participation added to the Student Development Record (co-curricular transcript), will receive a certificate of participation and individual recognition at the annual awards banquet. ASU in DC Semester Internship Program Are you seeking to gain a great internship in our nation’s capital and earn a full semester of ASU credit while there? See our website at dc.appstate.edu for details on the program. Application deadlines are as follows: October 3, 2011 for Spring 2012 April 2, 2012 for Fall 2012 All majors encouraged to apply! Students who have participated in the program will be available to answer your questions during contact tables in the Student Union on dates and times posted on our website. Also see ASU in DC alumni at the Internship Fair, January 25, 2012, 11-2, in the Student Union. Disney The Disney College Program offers Spring (spring semester) and Spring Advantage (spring and summer) internship opportunities with recruitment taking place this Fall. Students must attend either an on-campus presentation or an e-presentation to be eligible for an internship interview.
