The State University of New York at Potsdam is one of 64 campuses of The State University of New York and one of 13 SUNY Arts and Sciences colleges. The College was founded by early settlers in 1816 as St. Lawrence Academy. It continued as Potsdam Normal School in 1867 until 1942 when the College become Potsdam State Teachers College. In 1948, Potsdam became part of SUNY, the largest university system in the United States. Potsdam has a rich history of providing graduate degree programs in many of the disciplines that are at the core of the institutionâ€™s strengths.
