Robertstown Wrap Synergy Rallysport recently made their first appearance on gravel at the 2012 Copyworld Walky 100 Rally at Robertstown in South Australia’s mid north on the 23rd of June. It was the Evo 7 RS’ first gravel rally experience on Australian roads since being imported from New Zealand. The team were impressed at how it handled on the gravel and negotiated the rough terrain and jumps. The event was driver Josh Doyle’s first gravel rally post a three year break from the discipline. Last time Josh graced the stages of Robertstown was in the Synergy Rallysport Evo 3 back in 2005. With time passed and a new vehicle platform Josh had the challenging task of learning how the Evo 7 RS performs on gravel and quickly proved that his skills as a driver can never be lost! “ I was very happy with the cars response, we took a calculated approach to the rally and its great knowing we can still get alot more to get out of the car.” Josh commented. Team dynamics are continuing to grow inside the Synergy Rallysport Evo 7 RS between driver Josh Doyle and navigator Kate Lehmann. Their pace notes are progressing with every experience together. Kate enjoyed her first gravel rally experience; the changing gravel surface, busy flowing corners and many crests provided new challenges. The sensation of feeling the car slide through corners has proved addictive for the navigator used to tarmac. The Synergy Rallysport pit crew provided outstanding support and care of the Evo 7 RS. Mechanically the car did not miss a beat throughout the rally. Expectations have been set high amongst the crew with the quote “it doesn’t matter if you win or lose; it’s the size of your tent that matters”. Many thanks go out to crew Robbie Catford, Paul Stanton, Liam Doyle, Chris Rowney and Chris Lynch. SA Motorsport Tyres provided exceptional advice and customer support to the Synergry Rallysport team throughout the event. Hankook R203 gravel tyres were trialled after first service which successfully enhanced the dynamics and handling of the Evo 7 RS on the wet and loose surface. The transformation of grip resulted in greater driver confidence. The night stages proved testing for the team still developing their skills and learning the vehicle set up. Despite this, Synergy Rallysport team goals were achieved to finish the rally and gain valuable gravel time in preparation for the next great test, Rally SA on 27th-29th July. The team was content to have placed 11th Outright and 2nd in Class at their debut gravel rally. Many thanks goes out the Autobarn Mile End for their continued support for the event and to Blackwood Hire for providing the right tools. Also a thanks to SKR, Gary Ta Design and Check it out Graphics, with out their support the team would not be able to compete. Also a huge thanks to all officials and event organisers for a fantastic event.
