The program features MiddleSexGorge (1990), a howling dance of sensual p o w e r ; Pe t r o n i o’s signature solo #3 (1986), set to music by Lenny Pickett, musical director and b a n d f r o n t m a n f o r d ate : Ap r i l 27 - M ay 2 “Saturday Night Live;” a n d Fo r e i g n I m p o r t , a trio originally made for the Scottish Ballet (2007), set to R a d i o h e a d ’s i n f a m o u s r o c k a n t h e m “ C r e e p.” Pe t r o n i o c o n t i n u e s h i s commitment to ground-breaking new music with a world premiere set to Jonny G r e e n w o o d ’s a w a r d winning orchestral , “ Po p c o r n S u p e r h e t R e c e i v e r.”
Alwin Nikolais wove his magic through original and inventive choreography, sound scores, theatrical lighting and costuming. This centennial celebration, part of an international tour, offers Joyce audiences a rare opportunity to see some of the mos t ima ginat i ve works from a choreographer whose repertoire spanned over sixty spectacular years and helped shape the date : M ay 4 - M ay 9 future of contemporary dance. The wor ks are performed under the artistic direction of Alberto Del Saz and Murray Louis by the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company.
