orking as a Junior Architect at various levels of both Architecture and Master Planning projects, has put me on this path. However, pursuing a Masters in Environmental Design from the University of Bath, and successfully completing the Passivhaus Training & Examination; has helped me identify my true responsibility as an Architect. I have become part of a revolution that makes educated decisions on how Architecture can help us restore the balance between man & nature. On completing my time as a Junior Architect in Kuwait, where I was involved in various projects at both design, and implementation stage within the organization; I now seek an opportunity to impart whatever knowledge and experience I have, so as to change myself and architecture for the better.

he Hills of Govindanmukku have a history dating back to ancient texts. Legend claims that the Pandava Kings had sought shelter within the caves in the hills. The caves are currently protected and preserved. However the area around it consisting of lush green meadows, woods and a large pond lay unused. The proposal was to convert this area into a Park and Garden, with facilities for swimming, fishing and boating.

Paved Roads leading to the Park, Paved Pathways, Wooden Decks and Piers for Fishing, Wading and Boating, have been provided. In addition, Parking Spaces, Cafeterias, Amenities & a Children’s Park, along with the required Offices, Seating, provisions for Lighting and other Infrastructure have been provided. Retaining walls have also been introduced to strengthen the soil along its natural contours.

he Park dedicated to the memory of King Pazhassi, one of the famous rulers to fight against foreign rule; lies along the border of Kerala. A statue has been erected, where the King is said to have fallen in battle and a library structure has been erected. To create a an Interpretation Centre; Office blocks, Amenities and Cafeterias had to be introduced.

This along with Gazebos, Covered Seating and Walkways direct all visitors towards the Amphitheatre on the South Side & the Statue by the South East. The East Side of the Park has been converted into a stepped Botanical Garden, bordered by an existing Rubber Plantation. Adequate Lighting has also been provided along with the plan. It is also ensured that the existing trees are maintained.

he Thrissileri Temple, one of the older Temples in Wayanad, Kerala; contains shrines to multiple deities and is well known for its festivals. While the Sanctum Sanctorium and the core Temple structure was in pristine condition, the rest of the compound was falling slightly to disrepair. Repaving the entire compound with Granite Pavers, stabilizing the walls around ponds, repairing

the steps and replanting the garden were some of the few interventions. The Major design work included the design of a simple Amphitheatre for Private as well as Temple functions, the Amenities for Pilgrims including Cloak Rooms and Toilets, and the Associated Support facilities for the Amphitheatre. The roads have also been proposed to be repaved and the pathway for pilgrims, cleared.

he Thirunelli Temple is famous, as it is where the last ceremonial rites for believers are performed after their cremation. This happens at a specific time of the year, when thousands of believers come to perform the rites for their departed. The path leading to the section for the rites, and the temple ponds lay in disarray and disrepair. Proposals and plans have been laid out to repair the steps and

pathways, along with the provision of handrails to control to and fro traffic. The Temple pond is to be cleaned and its surrounding walls, stabilized. Furthermore, Temporary Ticket counters and Amenities have also been designed. The Rocky outcrops to the river will be stabilized with concrete infill and existing stones, while the width of the area for performing rituals will be slightly increased and embankments created for safety.

he Monet Business Park in Baroda, India; is a high rise commercial development in one of the upcoming commercial sectors of the city. The South East Facing building, was designed to have a completely glazed faรงade (either a curtain wall or floor to ceiling glazing). However due to the high temperatures within the city throughout the year, and the high solar altitude; adequate shading had to be provided.

The Shading has been designed as a composite Aluminium Framework with the incorporation of Planters for greenery to grow along the frames. The Frames are of two types: Open towards the South Side, and Closed with vertical and horizontal members towards the East Side. Mechanical Shading was not considered as the weather conditions could damage the moving parts leading to stagnant frames, facing the wrong direction.

he Triangular Planters have been designed to fit within the joints of the Framework, with additional mechanism for watering the plants. The North East faรงade of the building is also shaded by a similar framework, but with more frames parallel to the faรงade as there are no offices facing the back; only Stairwells, Amenities

and Storage. The Rooftop has been converted into a Cafeteria for the entire building and can also be used as a separate Gathering space for outdoor functions. The Projecting Canopy, constructed of foldable metal with a fabric top is designed to provide the required shelter for the rooftop gathering space.

he Hotel and Banquet Hall was a redesign project for Mr. Manish Thakkar, who wished to rent the whole Hotel out to wedding parties for the entire week for wedding celebrations and other festivities. The following design schemes were implemented: 1. Parking Facilities at both surface and Basement Level. 2. Due to the Narrow Size of the

Building, the main entrance was designed to have an Atrium that was 5 storeys high. 3. The Restaurant and Kitchen, for Dining and Catering located on the Ground floor. 4. Grand Staircase leading to Banquet hall on the First Floor. The Banquet hall could be further rented out as smaller venues for smaller functions.

he task of creating a facade for the existing residence of Mr. Waleed was undertaken with the idea to provide a clear white marble facade, with only grooves as decor. To achieve this, the building mass was split into two. The upper floor would have marble slabs with diagonal grooves, while the lower floor would have smooth slabs. The groove pattern for the lower

floor was selected on the basis of creating divisions along the fenestrations. These divisions run all around the villa, and further spread onto the Diwaniya, and the garage; which are clad in the same manner.

Facade Design for Villa

The striated marble was ordered as large slabs and cut into smaller pieces; which were later pieced to gethert to create the illusion of random.
